Humble servant of the Nation

Death becomes our politicians.

A big shout out to Dennis Hof who overcame the severe handicap of being dead to win election in District 36 of the Nevada State Assembly.

District 36 sits inside Nye County, Nevada. The county’s principal city, Pahrump, is a solid hour’s drive east to Las Vegas. It is home to 36,000 Nevadans, wedged on the Nevada-California border and ominously and perhaps auspiciously, Death Valley lies nearby. Pahrump became noteworthy (at least to me) as a part-setting and general den of inequity for the television drama, Get Shorty.

Hof enjoyed his 72nd birthday celebrations three weeks ago in Pahrump in the company of porn star Ron Jeremy, and recently pardoned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and died the following day.

Death became Dead Dennis. He not only won but won in a landslide. The obvious conclusion is the Democrat candidate, Lesia Romanov, may not have been entirely compelling. But here’s the rub — Hof, in a state of the deepest repose, was seen as a better candidate dead than alive.

The denizens of District 36 were not altogether comfortable casting a vote for a man who owned seven legal brothels.

But dead he was just fine, and the punters came out and voted for him in droves. Dead Dennis received 68 per cent of the vote. Had Still Vaguely in the Vertical Dennis run, it may have gone down to the wire.

What’s next? A dead Abe Lincoln to emerge from his tomb in Springfield Illinois? Dead Thomas Jefferson and dead George Washington to battle it out in Virginia’s sixth district for another shot at the title?

Worse things could happen.

Who wants the job? And who has a better plan that will pass the parliament? What a dogs breakfast of a Brexit.

  • Milton says:

Is it possible that our favourite pasty faced cupboard boy and alleged sex offender, Julian Assange, help deliver Trump to make the US great again. What a bumbling hero.

Crikey you are slow Milton. Bumbling? A cunning plan is what it was.

      • Milton says:

What, being used for political purposes by Donald Trump? Still, it’s vastly amusing to witness the tortuous contortions that the pasty faced patsy Assange forces you into. And now he has served Trump’s uses he will be used as a political pawn. What chance Ecuador cutting a deal with the US to revoke his asylum/citizenship? You, like him, are constantly played by bumbling, bombastic bunglers simply because you both think you’re the smartest people in the room (and you’re in a bedsit!). Hopefully you’ll come down off your high horse one day, dear Jean, and see the funny side of all this ‘cant’ you believe and go on with. I’ll take kunst over cant everyday.

Geez, the lefties of the world would be bereft of a topic without Trump.
The continual harping about his activities is getting a bit boring JB,
Get used to it – he is there for the next 6 years.
As far as narcissism is concerned, one of the lefts pin up boys, and I emphasis BOY, Trudeau leave Trump way back in his wake.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

There is absolutely nothing boring about Trump Jack Sprat, he comes up with a novel idiocy on a daily basis
No fella, you are stuck with him for the time being not us! Six years? I doubt it, the mid-terms are over and Pence is up and about. The knives are a’sharpening , Trump will have to pull his socks down to have a dump in less than nine months from now. No doubt Pence will pardon the shortie with orange rug to placate the howling mob of unmentionables.

Now those other topics, what about the Prime Minister and his ship of fools. Oh, sorry you were trying to draw attention away from that.
How about AGW then. I don’t want you getting bored Jack

Morrison is real isn’t he. Not some sort of hi-tech hologram cartoon character?

On another note The Australian Energy Market Operator says the country is facing a hot and dry summer with added risk of extreme weather and bushfires, but the addition of 2,100MW of new wind, solar and battery storage should mitigate the risk of any blackouts or load shedding. someone tell the terror inciting trainee treasurer and Pastor PM. The US now require companies to tell the government how many Non US citizens they have working for them if they wish to hire people. I am sure Moronison the Pastor PM will quickly latch onto this latest trumpian approach as he has with just about every other policy brain fart that has escaped his shouting mouth.
I see the trainee treasurer frydenberg fresh from continuing to Lie to the Nation about all sorts of alternative policies and pork barreling every group he can, sheesh next the Libs will be offering free steak knives and TV’s, Oh wait? is doing all he can to empower and incite terror activity in Australia. It is no wonder the far out there right whinge and cons on blogs like this continually call on their political overlords to amp up Fear campaigns on as many policy areas as possible. The cons without a fear campaign just have nothing to offer a Nation. We are seeing increasingly in the Western World when the minority cons cant get their way they will just blow up the whole show. No Surprises. Fair dinkum.

Peter Dutton must be referred to the High Court to test his eligibility to sit in our Parliament as an MP, Mr. Insider.
He is disgusting, two-faced and weak.

Looks like he was right about some of the lot that went from Nauru to the US and got pilloried for it.
Some want to go back to Nauru – no welfare in the US .
I am always interested why people like your good self prefer “boat” people to people from the camps.
Also the reasons for the 40 wanting to return might be a good indications as why they fly over many countries to get on a leaky boat to Australia.
By the way, anybody know how many of Julia’s 50,000 are still on welfare and how does that cohort compare with the equivalent number who have entered Australia in a controlled fashion over the last 2 or so years under Dutton?.

      • BASSMAN says:

        Not the full story
        This is ONE journalists story
Nauru will not any other journalists on Nauru
        Only Rupert’s
To get the truth we must hear the full story from other journalists.
I have heard no welfare in USA
        No proper resettlement arrangements
Separated from your wife and kids…of course U would wanna come back!

        • JackSprat says:

Guess we will have to wait to get the “proper” facts until “The Guardian” , Fairfax and the ABC get hold of the story 🙂

          • BASSMAN says:

No Sir we will have to wait until Dutts stops charging Australian refugees $10,000
for a non-refundable visas (Don’t say this is Nauru) to keep journalists off the islands in case the truth come out. Only Murdoch journalists like Woof have been allowed on the islands and he reported it as God’s Paradise (of course).

And Abbott was mocked for saying it was not a bad place.

      • Boadicea says:

That was interesting, JS. Gone are the days, it seems, when a visa to the USA was the dream.
I read that there is talk of setting up a naval base on Manus (or Nauru?) – which if implemented could provide employment for some and stimulate offshoot businesses maybe.
