IF you’re like me, you’re sick to death of the Barnaby Joyce story already and it has only been out there for little more than a day.

And oh, how the Op-Eds rolled out, like a torrent spewed out by the terabyte.

What we might kindly call the new media babbled on about conspiracies between the press gallery and the parliament. Democracy denied was the collective shriek, as if the readers of these inner-city websites were exclusively the denizens of New England.

Joyce won New England with a 7 per cent swing and if an election was held in his seat tomorrow my best guess is he would win by a similar margin.

Even during the campaign Twitter knew. I knew and I didn’t care. Indeed, during the New England by-election campaign, mainstream media reported Joyce was no longer living at the family home. Any journalist worth his or her salt could have chased the story down.

Full column here.

Underwhelmed thus far in the underbelly regions apropos the tit count in the Chopper show. Nor impressed with the dream sequence as paranoia. I think the bad boy killer with human weaknesses, let’s call that love, and the survival instinct to turn one’s life around, are done well for the medium.

You were a friend of the bloke, Jack, your thoughts?

    • Jack The Insider says:

I wouldn’t say I was a friend. I interviewed him four times and had a drink with him on one or two occasions. I watched the first show and it was odd. No real focus or story arc. I would have thought Chopper’s role as a very young man with the Painters and Dockers would have made for a ripping story but it wasn’t touched. Just a bid weird and all over the shop for mine.

    • Boadicea says:

I opted to watch Shetland instead. Really good series Milt. And no ads!!

      • Milton says:

I’ve not heard of that one, Boa but no adds (or few) are a bonus. Have started to search sbs on demand lately and there’s some good offerings gratis.

  • Milton says:

John the Baptist – mate, saw a show (intermittently) last night about Kubrick’s film The Shining, and from this movie some “bull goose looney” confirmed his view that Kubrick was the man behind the “faked moon landing” footage. His leaps of logic were something to behold, no doubt. He leaves yourself, Bassman and your little protégé in the shade. Do you subscribe to this theory, Jean? The auteur as stooge or patsy?

btw Seriously, has Hollywood, or any actor, been capable of doing a convincing nutter? They never convey the authenticity that is consumed and all enveloping madness, or even eccentricity. Consider Rudd. No one, no would be Brando, DeNiro or Hoffman could convincingly portray the delusion that manifests in Rudd, or many others of his ilk. For mine a good documentary is the tops!
Happy to hear differing views on H’wood crazies.

    • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

      Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet?

    • Dwight says:

      Anthony Perkins.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Could you provide a clip of that scene? I haven’t seen the movie.
I can only say that whoever directed the footage of the fake moon landing was probably deliberately incorporating as many clues as reasonably possible to make it obvious to anyone other than intellectually lazy, unimaginative , unenquiring lock step twits that it was a complete fraud.

I suggest you haven’t seen enough Hollywood movies to make any such judgement, which happens to be one of your trite nebulous unsubstantiated flights of fancy. You simply don’t have a clue what you are talking about and you are clearly delusional if you think you do.

Best wishes, as always happy to answer your questions however ridiculous.

    • Bella says:

Rudd has more intelligence in his big toe compared to any member of this fetid laughing stock of a government.
It’d surprise me if some of the more ancient ones could even turn a computer on without looking for a coloured button.

      • Milton says:

Well it is about time that he consulted with his big toe, Bella.
The genius must have had his shoes on when he spoke fervently about the greatest moral challenge of our times and then…..said nah. Poo Pooed same sex marriage, maintained what some folks consider “Howards” structural deficit and then the big toe turned 4 people in detention into a gate crashers wet dream (putting the 1000 babies etc who drowned, to one side).
This big toe of his also contributed to him, as PM, being knifed by his own party before an election most say he would have won. After undermining Gillard for ages, the genius returned to power, set up Nauru and Manus, and ensured, through party rules that the pinky toe, Shorten is entrenched in power.
I’m surprised, Bella that you consider that fraud intelligent. In this matter I think you’re gullible, but you’ve never been a fraud, imo.

      • Razor says:

Too bad he’s a narcissistic psychopath who is impossible to work with Bella.

    • Dismayed says:

Mcdonald makes accusation and you see it has fact? straws grasping ,much??

      • Razor says:

No….both the mother and step mother make allegations which corroborate each other and blow Ms Lambs tearful plea out of the water. Now whose grasping?

    • Bella says:

It mightn’t be mate; it’s the Oz. 🚫

    • The Outsider says:

Razor – off to the abattoir for this Lamb and Parliament can tell her “thanks for mutton”.

Pretty small beer, though, compared to Barnaby’s purported shenaginans re rorting his travel allowance, failing to declare Ms Campion as a partner etc.

      • Razor says:

It’s not small beer when it means the leader of the opposition has blatantly lied to the Australian people.

        • The Outsider says:

How is Shorten’s spiel materially different to Turnbull proclaiming that Nash and Joyce are dinky-di, ahead of the High Court hearing into their bona fides? It was good to see the High Court ignore Turnbull’s advice.

In some circles, Turnbull’s spiel could be interpreted as contempt. What do you reckon?

    • Lou oTOD says:

It seems she span a web even she cant get out of Razor. Both her birth mother and adoptive mother have now contradicted most if not all her assertions.

It truly is a tangled web we weave.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Accused? Why cant that be? Anyone can make an accusation, especially if there is a crisis requiring diversionary tactics.

  • Milton says:

And speaking of hypocrisy don’t get me started on the Greens. Always preachy on matters environment, yet flying all over the place and other suspect behaviours. I hope they all have humus toilets (now I know where that dip comes from!), wear 2nd hand or hemp clothing, are vegan, walk or cycle everywhere and don’t procreate.
And let’s never forget the Green’s walking hand in hand with the coalition and voting against Rudd’s ets. The big plus from this was the back of Turnbull and the shirtfront of Abbott.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

      Yeah whatever.

    • Bella says:

“don’t get me started on the Greens”
But you did start Milton, all preachy like..
Bit rich to go on about “suspect behaviours” at a time when your LNP are up to their you-know-whats in dodgy dealings & national shame.

      • Milton says:

Bella – what “dodgy dealing & national shame”?
National shame? Are you referring to the thousand and above (the ABC was remiss in not tallying up the dead) people that died as a result of Rudd and the Labor party, and the Greens and their genius in fixing something that wasn’t broken and had already been fixed by Howard. I’m surprised, Bella that you denigrate a party (thanks to Abbott) that has succeeded in reducing the kids in detention and deaths at sea. You seem willing to overlook children in detention and babies drowning at sea for base political motives. That’s callous, Bella. And i’d add hypocritical. maybe a fraud after all?

  • Dismayed says:

QLD blacked out. all that coal power and they cant keep the lights on, how is that possible? 2 coal fired plants fail in ‘Victoria Again. Fryndenberg blames that states because the National Electricity markets had to ask major power users to dial back consumption? Does he even know his Federal department is responsible for it? the coalition continues to lie to the Nation about another Power imbalance. No surprises.

    • wraith says:

Bloody renewable bloody ideology! Thats how its possible. Just thinking about solar will put a coal plant off line!

    • Mack the Knife says:

Qld blacked out eh? Spoke to my wife this morning she didn’t mention it. This obsession with Qld and Tasmania is getting a bit tfm don’t you think? Oh, if you have time to watch QT, you have way too much time on your hands.

      • Dismayed says:

FFS dinosaur most online outlets have a running “live” feed of QT you are so FN behind the times it is ridiculous then again drilling water wells off the back of a truck like you does not need any IT support. Man do you know you cn even use a phone to check things online these days? Probably not. No surprises.

        • Mack the Knife says:

And your point is….? Seen that health professional yet?

          • Dismayed says:

Man seriously just scroll back up to your own “comment” you have some serious issues dinosaur. Oh no this has 2 threads now you will be even more confused. You should look into some ginko and/or brahmi for your brain damage.

      • Boadicea says:

        It’s funny MtK. Just laugh.

    • Razor says:

No mention of SA &Vic causing the need for the dial back because wind power in both states only peaked at 16%.

      • Boadicea says:

Tasmania was selling hydro power to them a couple of weeks ago.

        • Dismayed says:

Rubbish pure rubbish. Tas and QLD have black outs. A couple of weeks ago SA was exporting power into the grid as it has for all but a couple of days this summer. You can lie to yourself but that does not change facts Both you and razor are ridiculous. You both are Malcolm Roberts disciples. You should both be ashamed for your continues dishonesty.

    • Bella says:

LNP = Lying is Normal Party 😨

  • Dwight says:

We need a big sign in Canberra like they have on jobsites about their workplace safety.

It’s been XXX days since the people’s business has been done in Parliament.

    • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

Look on the bright side – while they’re figuring out new ways to harass each other they’re not inventing new ways to harass us.

    • wraith says:

Plenty of ‘dirty business’ being done in Canberra by our (dear god) substitute PM. Cant wait to hear him tell us all why gay people getting married ended his relationship. Well, that is what did it isnt it?

    • Bella says:

Just on Turnbull’s brainless ‘ban’ of the Eureka flag on jobsites, I have it on good authority that has only served to increase it’s popularity with everything from jobsite flags to ute stickers, t-shirts & even new tatts!
I say, who are these tradies hurting? It’s completely absurd.

      • Penny says:

That was always going to happen Bella….shows how stupid it is to try and ban anything in Australia, but the Eureka Flag? Spare me….

  • voltaire says:

Please try to watch the men’s moguls finals tonight as you will be witnessing the greatest mogul skier of all time: Mikael Kingsbury, who has taken the sport to a new level.

One mistake and he could miss out: but it is his to lose.

Having said that, Matt Graham, the Australian is technicaly excellent in the bumps – but needs to work on his speed – but could be a genuine medal contender if he can overcome bias against non-dominant nations….it is a judged sport and he was underscored in the qualifying possibly partially because he was one of the first down the course.

The women were excellent but the margin (aside from aesthetics and connoisseur appreciation) can be gauged by the fact that men and women ski the same course iin the bumps but Kingsbury was 5 seconds faster over the 250 metre course while performing better in every respect than the top woman…

cheers (and happy new year to all of you)

    • Boadicea says:

Watched it Voltaire. Awesome stuff. And how about our guy getting the silver!
The hammering those knees get is painful to watch!

    • Lou oTOD says:

Happy New Year Voltaire, but you are in serious danger of the delayed greeting medal. Its mid-February mate, blink and another year will be over! I use a rule of thumb of around 3rd week in January to give it up.

Back on the moguls, what an effort by Graham to win the Silver. He didnt look too surprised to get knocked off by Kingsbury in the last run, but as he said not bad for 27 seconds of performance. Ignoring the years of training and competing of course.

My daughter is a qualified ski instructor, and she wouldnt dream of performing some of the stunts these competitors do, e.g. The face plant in the half pipe. Ouch!

      • Penny says:

Maybe he means happy Chinese New Year,…Gong Xi Fa Cai

        • Milton says:

          language, Penny!

        • voltaire says:

Recently returned to Oz – and the blog, so I was polite….

Pity channel 7 is so pathetic and parochial in its coverage. Sure I understand the local colour every time there is an Australian participant, but failure to concentrate on Marcel Hirscher (the second most decorated skier in alpine history with 55 World Cup wins going into the Olympics – only behind Stenmark, the Bradman of skiing) who won the Alpine Combined (downhill & slalom) although he only skis or trains downhill once a year at most!!

Far too much inanity in the commentary (maybe they think they are politicians or commenting on politicians) without genuine depth….despite having a couple of relatively knowledgeable people involved adn of course the high number of hangers on….ok in line with the title of the blog: sporting commentary for goodlooking but oblivious people…

  • Milton says:

I see dud Rudd is back at the press club on the anniversary of his apology. Now that is what labor do well, apologise. Beattie was a master.
Labor aren’t too bad at hypocrisy either. The self proclaimed friend of the worker have never shied away from shafting the worker to benefit the Union coffers. Or on discrimination, have never been shy of calling non union workers scabs and so on.

    • BASSMAN says:

Neither is Dutton Turned his back on the apology cries for the radio but not for the murders rapes and beatings in Manus on his watch. You then say Labor aren’t too bad at hypocrisy…Abbott said we should have a carbon tax even on petrol and electricity…then does exactly the opposite and makes an election out of it…Barnaby not a hypocrite? The whole front bench of the Looters won an election on debt…they have tripled the deficit and have gross debt of half a trillion…want some more hypocrisy? The never talk about debt anymore OR the debt truck which is 20 time what it was when Howard won an election with it in 1996.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

.. and on and on and on and on…………………..

  • Boadicea says:

As the water crisis worsens in Cape Town it’s become a status symbol to walk around with unwashed hair – just to prove to all that you’re being legal with the 50litre/day allocation. Drastic stuff indeed.
Getting rid of Zuma is another big challenge. He’s not going in a hurry and is playing the politics.
He is up for over 700 corruption charges involving hundreds of millions of rand, not to mention the apparently billions of dollars that have been laundered through his mate, Gupta. Straight off to other countries.
They are trying to negotiate a deal. My bet is that it will be agreed that he keep all his plundered assets and not be charged – nor members of his family. A couple of corrupt sons I believe..
    Mugabe set a high benchmark

  • BASSMAN says:

Joyce should take one for the team and hang up his cue so as to speak. He HAS to go because the whole government is bleeding and Labor will not stop. The boil must be lanced. The longer this festers the more the government’s credibility gets shafted. I imagine Abbott in the same position if the tables were turned. He would be salivating-a dog straining at the leash. For sure he is enjoying all this. He would rather see Labor win the next election than Tbull score another guernsey. He carries a lot of venom and hate. You can’t blame him.

    • Lou oTOD says:

You have me confused Bassy. Are you cheering or booing? Maybe you could coach the North Korean Olympic cheer squad to get them to inject a bit of variety.

Maybe youve forgotten Hawke’s teary fess up of his departure from the family home, justified by the long march of passionate infidelity with the irresistable Blanche. What would have happened in the PP if she had been pregnant?

As for the breaking news that The randy Barnaby pinched someone’s bum seven years ago, give me a break!

How a bout we eliminate all infidels with a history of infidelity from the big house eh? Woukd hardly be a bloke or female left.
