Humble servant of the Nation

Malcolm Turnbull: the Wile E. Coyote of Australian politics

As we sit and wait for news of the fate of the seven dual citizens as they traipse from their parliamentary offices with the woebegone air of condemned men and women to the High Court this afternoon, it is worth reflecting on the sort of week the government has already had.

There is a prescient sense of deja vu about it. The Turnbull government often has good Tuesday afternoons but come the weekend, the control of the agenda has been lost, a scandal has emerged, or infighting on the backbenches has turned into a donnybrook. The familiar theme is, in any one week of the Turnbull government, one step forward and three back.

Indeed it has happened so often the thought occurs that possibly Malcolm Turnbull isn’t very good at being prime minister.

“I have never had more fun in my life.”

    Really?

  • Bella says:

Meanwhile 816 human beings on Manus are saying they are terrified to leave the detention centre because they’re being threatened and attacked by locals. All essential services such as water, power and food for these human beings will be shut down today regardless of their safety.
So far only 25 of these human beings have been accepted by the US deal so Amnesty International & the UNHCR have demanded that Australia honour its international obligations & get them out of PNG.
What kind of society have we become that cruelty reigns supreme and we just turn a blind eye to the suffering of fellow human beings?
I just hope karma will visit the architects of this damning chapter in our nations history. Soon.

    • JackSprat says:

They are free to leave whenever they wish Bella but, I believe, they refused PNG nationality and offers to return to their homes..

I do not know how many acceptances to the US are in the pipeline Bella but if they have failed the US criteria, what makes you think they are acceptable here?

Meanwhile, I wonder how many deserving families have been quietly settled here over the last 6 months – the process was slow to start with but I hope it has increased.

    • Dismayed says:

and people on hear are trying to say potato head is a good guy. Dutton is a disgrace and this government have wrecked the Nations standing on the world stage purely for political ideology. Disgraceful. No surprises.

      • JackSprat says:

        Dunno about that Dismal.
Most nations do not know we exist or care what we do.
There is a fair swag of Europeans who would like to see the Australian system introduced – not those in Brussels who seem intent on destroying the EU with their high-handed approach..
In that useless body called the UN we are not the flavour of the month.
Personally I do not give a damn about what they say or anybody else for that matter because “other people” do not pay the bills – monetary or socially..
We take, as a proportion of population, more refugees than most and do a bloody good job at it.
And we can be very proud of that.

      • Razor says:

You can tell everyone you are talking about me Dismal. Don’t be scared.

      • Razor says:

On another note they stopped the unfettered immigration which occurred under Labor. That’s why the next Labor government will be a one termer. It’s all ready to start again. Get ready to hear ‘push factors’ an awful lot when it does.

        • Dismayed says:

What are you talking about “immigration” is still at all time highs. Rudd did stop boats from leaving Indo. He did put in place the temporary Manus situation that the coalition has used to Dehumanise for political purposes people who are Legally seeking refuge. Your mate dutton has deliberately created a human rights catastrophe. For him and bishop to now claim it is PNG;s problem or try to blame UNHCR advocates highlights just how lacking in humanity and run by political opportunism they are. The fact you continue to want to dehumanise and use People as political fodder proves you and your ilk have No right being in any position that have the capacity to make decisions.

“Spot the Aussie” continues, Mr Insider, with todays Stephen Parry revaluation. One thing for sure any new Politicians will surely do a thorough Citizenship check on themselves as will their Party.

Fifty two bags, a record have gone to assorted💀👻🎃👽
The fruity chews were nice, just had to check they were ok……along with the Freddo’s, snakes……

    • Dwight says:

Well done! At a two-day meeting so was unable to overload the kiddies with sugar this year. Did talk to an odd bloke last night who was dressed as a witch. But, he was on the terps, so I went to dinner.

    • JackSprat says:

Forgot to put the balloon on the letter box – now we have more sweets than you can jump over

      • Tracy says:

We’ve got some left but not much and I thought I’d overdone it with the amount I’d bought, guess it will have to be more next year judging by the numbers.

There’s something not quite the same to opening the door on Halloween night – to find a couple of mothers proferring basket for lollies whilst clinging anxiously onto their kids hand lest you should invite the little darlings in and molest them!
I just turn the music up real loud and can’t hear the doorbell.

Milton – another thing I just found out that Michaelia Cash is married to the brother of the late, great Matt Price.

The world works in strange ways.

    • BASSMAN says:

Yes and how the Oz and all of us miss Matt Price. He would have had a ball sketching the present political climate. The standard of balanced reporting has as dropped considerably since those days of Matty, GM, Mike and Co……..extreme Sad Cafe.

    • Milton says:

No doubt it is the circles they move in. Look at Malcolm, he’s been walking in circles for years and married into the movers and shakers. Now they are moving away and shaking their heads!

a quick visit to the Lucky Shop, aka the HK Jockey Club outlet, this afternoon and chatting to a young local staffer.

as is customary he was wearing a Chinese and English language name badge.

    english name, Ginger.

    wonderful.

  • Rhys Needham says:

It’ll be interesting to see if the President of the Senate, Stephen Parry, turns the Citizenship Seven into the Citizenship Eight should his enquiries to the UK prove that he might in fact also be a dual citizen. George Brandis may be able to wear a runny omelette as a toupee if this case, too.

At least he’s said he’d do the decent thing and resign if that’s the case and not cost us all a fortune by dragging it through the courts.
