Wentworth by-election the preface to electoral doom for the Coalition

There’s one thing we can predict about the upcoming vote in Wentworth — it will be a Chris Gayle by-election. That is, it’s going to swing hard.

When unpopular governments begin the doleful trudge to the next election almost anything can trigger the descent into abject despondency.

At the fag-end of the Labor Kirner government in 1992, a government beset with turmoil, scandal and chaos, the tram drivers went on strike. Not only did the drivers pull the pin, they decided to make their displeasure known more starkly by driving trams up to the top of Bourke Street and along Spring Street, before parking them in long lines just outside Victoria’s Parliament House.

For the weeks the strike lasted the motionless conga line of trams remained. Labor MPs would look out their windows from their parliamentary offices at the traffic chaos below, shudder and draw the curtains before having a long lie down with a cold compress on their foreheads. It was an excruciating reminder when one really wasn’t needed of the belting that was coming their way.

Yeah …., they’re all a bunch of toxic bullies.

  • Dismayed says:

the latest conservative coalition PM on the horizon showing again that he is the dishonest head of a toxic dishonest government. Not satisfied with lying he changes his lies during the interview. And cons still support this disgraceful individual. No surprises.

O ye of little faith Dismayed. You should be ashamed of yourself.

      • Dismayed says:

cotc I have no doubt you support his toxic and again ignorantly wrong comment on kids who are a little different also. I have faith in my ability to decipher conservative, right wing and religious fantasist bullshit. You of the fantasy faith are raised to feel shame. I was raised to believe nothing that you see and only half of what you hear oh and most importantly in myself. That could part of your issue, you need all sorts of fantasies and command a control types to show you the way. You can keep your shame. I will question as you live on your knees.

        • Carl on the Coast says:

Oh dear, I must have touched a raw nerve Dismayed, for you to burble out such nonsense. Surely you’re not that delicate. Do take a little time to consider your responses before hitting the keyboard mate.

        • Mack the Knife says:

You are ass backwards as usual. It’s “Nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see”. No wonder you are what you are.

    • Henry Donald J Blofeld says:

And yes dear sweet innocent Mr Baptiste the US Economy starting to boom under POTUS Trump, Unemployment down to a wee 3.8%, Jobs opening up everywhere as new and old Industries are fired up with the enthusiasm that Donald has brought to the US. Like the Moon Landings fellow let the facts guide your thoughts not your extreme left wing Politics. Cheers

Someone needs to lock Abetz up.
    Quote today on the au pairs is a classic;
“I would have thought we should all be celebrating that the dept and the minister can make quick decisions rather than keeping someone in detention unnecessarily”
Jesus wept. If he were a horse they would shoot him.

Trying a new browser (Chrome). Having problems with Firefox.

  • JackSprat says:

For those who use a PC

When you start. hit ctrl f5 at the same time.
This forces WordPress to refresh and the full lot of entries appear
By doing this at the moment it went from 66 entries to 106.

Refresh on the browser does not work.

    • Carl on the Coast says:

Thanks JS. it worked for me, fingers crossed.

    • Bella says:

I did that JS & jumped from 66 since yesterday to 158 tonight.
      Thanks mate, appreciated. 😄

    • Boadicea says:

      Blog behaving strangely JS.
I use MS Edge browser and it was stuck on 66 for 2 days despite clearing browsing history, refreshing screen etc etc.
Had thought JTI sick of us or away.
However tonight i switched to Google Chrome to see what would happen and hey presto had 158 comments.
This is my smartphone but it was same on laptop.
I can’t pinpoint it. Seems erratic

    • Milton says:

Well done, JackSprat!! That works for me.
btw an interesting post by Wissendorf on the earliest page re Adani.

      • Jean Baptiste says:

Yeah, really interesting pure bollocks. Adani are going to run poles and wires to the poorest Indians?
The cheque is in the mail.
What is really interesting is the push to supply poor Indians with localised PV’s and batteries and wind power.
The poorest of the world will be the first to die from the effects of AGW and this specious sleazy nonsense contrivance about coal saving lives is beyond contempt.
Coal has already made virtually all of us dead men walking, and bizarrely the continued use of coal might help us last a little longer, but spare us the bullshit emotional blackmail and confected “caring”.

Hear, hear JB but the Fibs have ‘sad-face’ down to a fine art. Goons that they are.

        • Carl on the Coast says:

“batteries and wind power” ?? Don’t think so JB.
          https://www.iea.org/topics/coal/

          • Jean Baptiste says:

Try and keep up Carl. We are talking about very poor subsistence Indians where considerable effort and great success is being achieved with small scale solar power stations and wind generators.

        • Milton says:

hJean – you say ”but spare us the bullshit emotional blackmail and confected ‘caring”’, yet you’ve been doing the crocodile tears over the grandkids, future gens etc. In your ignorance you miss the point that thousands won’t get beyond childhood whilst you amuse yourself with “what is really interesting…”. Whilst you live the dream, up in the clouds, looking down on others, cutting and pasting stuff yóu don’t understand, thousands are dying whilst you immerse yourself in graphs and computer modelled dystopian futures. You’ve found and followed a new faith old son and you are its worthy Pope. Pope John the Baptist.

I had 66 comments until I checked the blog this morning, just requires a bit of patience.
      It updates when it updates.

    • jack says:

thanks, that is better, at least I have some hope of knowing if what I thought i had posted actually appears, and if I have been even more repetitive and boring of late, I am pleading not knowing the answer to that in my defence.

anyway, on with the footy, I can’t recall a finals series as open as this one, albeit with a red hot favourite on the top line.

  • Henry Donald J Blofeld says:

Good news, Mr insider that sweet latest Lib PM Mr Morrison says you can now retire at age 67yo not 70yo as that fool ex ousted PM Tony Abbott brought in in his vicious 2014 Budget. Abbott of course the greatest sucker of the Taxpayers teat even told us then that the “age of entitlement is over”!
Of course as we all know Abbott is unemployable in the Private Sector hence he hangs on as a huge embarrassment to the Liberal Party.

  • Dismayed says:

the latest conservative coalition “energy” minister stating there is already too much wind and solar energy in the NEM grid. He sat there and agreed with Alan Jones ridiculous and blatantly false comments on prices and his other usual lies. We see QLD has the opportunity to create thousands of jobs in renewables over the coming decades they are producing their power with coal at around $85/$90 per mwh. SA using renewables is producing their power at about $76 per mwh. Only in the delusional mind of a con is coal cheaper than renewables. Australia cannot afford to continue with the ideological terrorism of this conservative coalition. The Australian ran with a report today from retired Engineers from fossil fuel companies citing power costs that have NO factual basis. Why does the Australian continue to run blatantly false information as its headlines? The latest round of Renewable energy projects ascribes $0 value to renewable energy certificates. The cons and their mouthpiece propaganda rags continue to claim Renewables receive all sorts of subsidies. These a lies flat out. But the cons have nothing else only their toxic ideology, bullying and lies. No surprises.

    • Bella says:

I don’t know how their blatant lying still shocks me Dismayed. That they think they can get away with such bullshit infuriates me more.
      “Ideological terrorism” ? Damn straight.
