Humble servant of the Nation

Scott Morrison surveys the rubble he’s inherited

A political schism once begun cannot be stopped. It develops a force of its own and moves in ways that cannot be controlled. The consequences can only be appreciated after the fires have been extinguished.

Scott Morrison will be sworn in as the 30th Prime Minister of Australia. The fight is not over. In many ways, it has only just begun. He won the spill 45 votes to Dutton’s 40. Julie Bishop was knocked out in the first round of voting. Morrison’s deputy is Josh Frydenberg.

Malcolm Turnbull’s delaying tactics allowed Morrison to assemble the numbers. He almost certainly did not have them yesterday.

n the comings days, expect the words “healing”, “repair”, “revival” and “restoration” to be vomited out of a thesaurus by senior Liberal figures. These words will be a nonsense, yet another damning exercise in the party’s obsession with introspection.

“Libs in rude good health” – Nick Cater. Pass it down here, Nick and be quick about it.

  • Boadicea says:

Now that her brother has been given the all clear and says he’s going to hang in for years, I see Christine Forster has declared her intention to have a go.
In my opinion, Morrisson has made a grave error in granting that treacherous man a reprieve. (Dutton too for that matter). TA has shown time and time again that he cannot be trusted. I don’t think I would be alone in that opinion.
I am sure Christine Forster is a very nice person, but sorry, I cannot abide the thought of the pair of them in this government.
Australian politics is a joke and an embarrassment. I’m going Independent next time. Luckily I have Wilkie – otherwise I wouldn’t vote at all.

Ah but ScoMoses is a Christian Boady. Forgive and forget and all that, but on the other hand he might just have been too chicken not to include Mr Potato Head and Big Ears.

    • Dwight says:

They can keep the war going between the wets and the dries—thereby guaranteeing a Shorten victory—or try to come to terms. This is something Turnbull’s ego wouldn’t let him do.

  • Jean Baptiste says:

Henry, I know you’re right into this stuff. If you look at the top of the globe you can get an idea of how thin our atmosphere is. No wonder ISS astronauts salivate at the thought of one day being able move further from Earth than just a few hundred kilometres.

Bless you, Mr. Baptiste, there are none so blind as those that cannot see but in your case dear fellow it’s not wanting to see.
If only the Russians had landed on the Moon, they were very close too or maybe even if Fidel had sent a Moonship up you would not be talking about the Van Allen Belt.
Attached the Appollo Moon Landing Lunar Surface Journal for your perusal Me Baptiste, enjoy. Cheers

You sad sucker! Henry, seriously, how obvious does it have to be? Do you believe in Santa Claus? The Tooth Fairy? The Sky Fairy? It’s theatre for the simpletons Henry. It cannot be done, it will probably never be done. Scammers lie t us, they always have.

      Top post JB

  • Jean Baptiste says:

And he hasn’t done his best work yet! All praise Abbott, the reverse Moses as he leads his people into the wilderness.

  • Boadicea says:

By giving Abbott some recognition, albeit not much, they still have not learnt a lesson. The man is a snake and should have been ignored.
This will set them even further back in the polls. Not that it matters – theyre gone next election
Although its sad, Julie Bishop made a good decision. Quit while on top. She’ll go on to better things.

  • Dismayed says:

hillsong horizon morrison’s new chief of staff is the former boss of the coal spruiking minerals council and new energy minister angus taylor is an avowed climate change sceptic and anti renewables campaigner taylor just last week was saying the obsession with emissions must end. former mining company lawyer Melissa price is the Environment minister.? this again proves hillsong morrison is a climate change denier he has elevated the mining industry ahead of the National interest even further. No surprises. Meanwhile the AEMO report that fossil fuel plants have shut down 100 times since December and the biggest threat to NEM Grid stability goes unreported in the mainstream media. No Surprises.

    • Jack The Insider says:

Stop calling him Hillsong, Dismayed. It’s silly.

      • Dismayed says:

JTI thank you for your excellent blog. I consider anyone who believes an all powerful being is running the show ( apart from Rupert that is) and who believes in talking tongues is silly.

        • Jack The Insider says:

We all know that. You don’t have to resort to silly name calling.

        • Boadicea says:

Are you saying that all MP’s should be atheists then, Gary?
Of course you are assuming that anyone, here and elsewhere, is the least bit interested in your opinion of a person’s values.

          • Dismayed says:

Yvonne again with the this Gary business? Not sure what your obsession is with this Gary, I noticed last week in the comments section on the the other side it appeared there was 2 or more different Gary’s with different perspectives. I had a laugh because of the obsession you have with me and it appears anyone who dare apparently not blindly support your conservative coalition. Yvonne if you are not interested in my opinion why do you have a pathological need to respond to them? I feel sorry for this Gary dude you have one of your obsessions with the poor guy was probably just reading the Australian and then some obsessive cons like you starts inserting him into every comment. If you don’t see Dismayed on the other side it is not me. No Surprises.

          • Gary Prest says:

oh. the answer is YES. Delusions have No place when the National interest is at stake. Let me get this straight you believe in an all powerful being running the show when there is NOT one speck of evidence and never will but 97% of all Scientist tell the world and provide more evidence than ever needed that we Must act to avoid cooking the planet and you think it is some sort of collective conspiracy? HAHAHAHAHA oh my goodness , dont involve me in your delusional obsessive rants. Even the Farmers Federation want a Climate Policy.

    • Bella says:

Figured he’d put his best denialist dinosaurs in those positions.
While this government is terminally stuck in the past, Victoria is building renewables; 40% by 2025 and they’ve just begun construction on Australia’s largest wind farm.
      See how it’s done Canberra.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

That’s it in a nutshell Dismayed. The Minister for the Environment is a former mining company lawyer.
No wonder the species is doomed, they are like weevils in the flour, cockroaches in the sugar.

      Give ’em heaps young man.

Rudd the Wrecker turns on the Wreckers, Mr. Insider as the fallout from last week continues. As we all know ex ousted PM Tony Abbott and his glove puppet big Petey Dutton staged a coup which “Duttonated”.

  • Carl on the Coast says:

Garn ….., its a mere flesh wound.

  • Boadicea says:

An attack from Rudd today who accuses Abbott of creating 10 years of negativity and toxicity in Australian politics.
For once one has to agree with Kev.

    • Tracy says:

Ex PM’s need to be buried at a crossroads with a stake through their heart, then they might stay buried…….nah, not even that would be enough for Rudd or Abbott

      • Bella says:

Abbott looking a tad disgruntled today about the job on offer. Not happy Jan….no portfolio.
His deep anger & need for revenge are very sociopathic traits so watch out Morrison I think.

      • Boadicea says:

True, Tracy! Whatever one thinks of Turnbull he is doing the right thing and leaving them to get on with what they created.
Tony Abbott’s ”okay folks, let’s move on now” stuff is vomit-worthy. He’s going to reject the envoy offer and hang around making mischief because he hasn’t been given a cabinet position.
Good for Joyce, who is knuckling down to his role enthusiastically and seemingly not holding grudges.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

      And more power to him.

    • jack says:

who did Kevin stalk and take down in his political career. Laurie Bremerton, to get the foreign affairs portfolio in opposition, Kim Beazley, Simon Crean, Mark Latham, Kim again, Julia, etc.

for Malcolm we can list the obvious ones, Peter King, Brendan Nelson, Tony Abbott and Peter Dutton on the way out the door.

Both Malcolm and Kevin have well deserved reputations as being personal bullies to staff and colleagues and anyone else they had to deal with, of never being loyal to their parties or staff, and of behaving in the same manner even before they entered politics, it is Kevin and Malcolm who shout abuse at staff and colleagues, keep senior officers waiting for hours, belittle public servants and anyone else below them in the pecking order.

They have both left behind a long trail of broken friendships, people sucked up at first, then discarded when no longer useful.

      Its in their DNA.

They have zero credibility to criticise anyone else.

In my view it will be their absence from the political scene which gives us a chance for relative political stability.
