IF you’re like me, you’re sick to death of the Barnaby Joyce story already and it has only been out there for little more than a day.

And oh, how the Op-Eds rolled out, like a torrent spewed out by the terabyte.

What we might kindly call the new media babbled on about conspiracies between the press gallery and the parliament. Democracy denied was the collective shriek, as if the readers of these inner-city websites were exclusively the denizens of New England.

Joyce won New England with a 7 per cent swing and if an election was held in his seat tomorrow my best guess is he would win by a similar margin.

Even during the campaign Twitter knew. I knew and I didn’t care. Indeed, during the New England by-election campaign, mainstream media reported Joyce was no longer living at the family home. Any journalist worth his or her salt could have chased the story down.

Just caught a clip from parliament with electricity Bill addressing the Closing The Gap report. A very good reply from little Billy hitting some very pertinent points. Not often I praise the little prick but he did well today.

  • Dismayed says:

the coalition were smashed in QT today. The ridiculous statement that came out of the PM’s office proves the disgrace that is this government. Barnaby the nationals and by extension the PM’s office broke the rules. Again the coalition will not accept fault and will not show integrity and fox (sky) news are going into defence mode for the coalition and Barnaby. Fake news? NO. Worst government in Australia’s history. Yes. No Surprises.

    • Uncle Quentin says:

I was taken (but not in a good way) by that Reynolds women from WA. If that is the calibre of coalition back benchers then they are in trouble. Dull, humourless, didactic and completely in thrall to the supply side economic claptrap economic orthodoxy.
Where did Chris Kenny get the idea that his opinion counts? Wasn’t he Turdballs chief of staff that let him get sucked in by Utegate and Goblin Grech?

  • Milton says:

In case Tracy is busy with the Olympics, champions league starts back in a day.

  • Time To Go Barnaby says:

Jack is Barnaby going to take maternity leave? I hope he doesn’t dump poor Vickki like he did Natalie.

  • BASSMAN says:

JOYCE:- its not the affair…its the BLATANT hypocrisy. Many pollies have affairs but they don’t tell everybody
else what to do in their bedrooms, who they can do it with, make statements about marriage and fidelity and THEN go off shagging. Its the hypocrisy and nothing else. But it could be the money as well. Labor is really after Turnbull and he is straying as far away from it as he can.

    • Tracy says:

For his wife and daughters it’s the affair Bassy, don’t know how I’d go if I was in their situation.

      • Tracy says:

Ok Bassy I’ve thought about it.
One child under the age of eighteen, maintainance, half the house, loss of earnings over the years he’s been in parliament and I’ve had to hold the fort………let alone being unpaid for various public “appearances” as mp’s wife.
Half his very generous supperannuation for all the super I haven’t been able to earn, do you think that’s ok?

        • Tracy says:

Second thoughts maybe I should just go for the lot, he’s not paying rent at the moment.

          • wraith says:

If it happened to you, you would have me in your ear telling you many various and wonderful ways you can destroy a man and his world.

            • Tracy says:

I’ll file that away in case I need it at some point in the future.
Husband says he’s not rich or powerful enough to attract a floosie so I’m stuck with him.

          • smoke says:

yep ..he wants to clear out and live elsewhere, the lady can fill her boots

          • BASSMAN says:

As I said on the blog a few days ago Mrs Barnaby is going to be a VERY rich woman.Of course this will never make up for the heartache…she may also be entitled to ‘future earnings’ she would miss out on if married to BJ. The law says she is entitled to half but she may be eligible for more. The new baby is the spanner in the works for her because his needs will have to be taken into consideration. Maybe his mistress can get her old job back at 190k doing twitter and facebook for the Un Nationals. Any family court lawyers here to check all dis? Am amazed there has been no press on her deserved entitlements.

            • Boadicea says:

Rest easy Bassy. The press will hound all of them until, and after, the baby is born – and the divorce settlement is reached.
Natalie on Sixty Minutes? According to the press she wants to tell her story. I wish she wouldn’t. Silence is far more dignified and there is nothing to be gained by bringing out the dirty laundry. I think everyone has formed their opinion by now.
She will get a good settlement. It will take some time to get over the hurt. At least two years, maybe more – and family and friends will be there to help.

    • Razor says:

Bassy the ABC reported this afternoon the PM’s office must approve employment of family members or partners. I think we can both see the loophole you could drive a truck through here. It says nothing about your ‘bit on the side’. Malcolm will slide out on this but the damage is done. I actually don’t think Turnbull would have known initially, this cosy arrangement would have been cooked up between Barn, Canavan and Co.

They need to change the wording of this but one must be a bit suspicious as to how this ‘gap’ was allowed to be there to start with.

      • BASSMAN says:

Yes UR right. I dnt think Turnbull would have known initially it would have been kept very quiet for some time for obvious reasons. All it will take to do Malcolm in though is for some Motel guy to say “They stayed here on such and such a date’

    • Carl on the Coast says:

Way off the mark BASSY. No humbug or piety in Barnaby’s persona. What you see is what you get.

  • Huger Unson says:

Here’s a little challenge for you, Jack. Suppose you are at a campaign meeting, all candidates are lined up to plead their causes. A bloke behind you starts voicing racial insults, or tries to start a chant “Lock ‘er up!”. You turn around, there are three of them in the same teeshirts, shaved heads & neck tats.
How does it go from there?

  • Tracy says:

So who’s going to be deputy PM when Turnbull flits off next week?

  • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

I’m reminded, Jack of your earlier piece comparing Shorten to the Road Runner and Turnbull to Wile E. Coyote.

Did Wile E. have a dopey country cousin who also unexpectedly dropped big rocks on his head?

  • Not Finished Yet says:

Perhaps those who don’t want to judge Barnaby would think again if he had been more honest in his mea culpa. He should not have talked about the ‘failure of my marriage’. It is not his marriage that has failed. A more honest man would have said ‘I was fully aware that in pursuing this relationship it was inevitable that I was sacrificing the privacy, the happiness and perhaps the mental well being of my daughters. With my new partner’s background, she was equally aware of this. We were prepared for them to pay this price in order for us to satisfy our lusts.’

That would have displayed the true calibre of this man.

    • smoke says:

      hes bloody mental nfy

    • jack says:

I hate to go all practical on you NFY, but satisfying the lusts isn’t the problem.

If they were just having the odd shag that might cause a few office ructions, and no doubt a bit of angst in the Joyce family if word got about too much, but the political career could sail on regardless, look at Bill Clinton and Bob Hawke for examples.

no, the source of the problem is leaving the wife and setting up home with someone else. It’s the love not the lust.

      It nearly always is.

i know it’s a bit hard to imagine Barnaby in love, but human nature is a strange thing and I have seen even weirder examples.

  • Johnny Catch says:

Well I woke up Monday morning
With no way to hold my head
    That didn’t hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn’t
Bad so I had one more for dessert

    • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

I prefer Kevin Bloody Wilson’s take:

Well I woke up feelin’ rat-sh*t
With no way to hold me head
      That wouldn’t hurt
Wondrin’ what’d make me feel the best
      A chunder or a squirt?
