Imagine in this age of instant gratification, having to wait for something, anything for 45 years. Then think what it must be like to have to wait so long for something as fundamental as the truth.
Former Victoria Police detective, Denis Ryan, turned 86 last month.
In 1972, he was forced out of the Victoria Police Force after trying to bring the pedophile priest, Monsignor John Day, to justice.
Forty years later, Denis came to my home and together we wrote the book of that appalling story, Unholy Trinity: The Hunt for the Pedophile Priest Monsignor John Day”.
At the time I cautioned Denis about setting his expectations too high. The subject material of the book was so disturbing I doubted it would be a bestseller. To publisher Allen & Unwin’s credit they published anyway.

I wonder if that result in Alabama was all about Moore – or all about Trump?
I think it is too easy and to early to say it is a rejection of Trump. The issues in the special election were most unusual to say the least. As Jeff Flake (R-AZ) tweeted yesterday Jones’ win was a victory for decency. I think that sums it up.
Yes Jack. It would have been really interesting if there hadn’t been a cloud hanging over Moore though.
In last year’s presidential election the GOP won 65-35.
Brisbane boy Jeff Horn will put his WBO welterweight world title on the line for the first time when he faces dangerous Englishman Gary Corcoran in Brisbane tonight, Mr Insider. We are all cheering for Jeff here in QLD, he had to waste to make the weight so hopefully it hasn’t taken too much out of him. Jeff Horn my tip to win, QLD Premier Anastasia a big fan of his too.

Jeff Horn you magnificent bastard! Jeff Horn has defended his WBO welterweight world title, beating British challenger Gary Corcoran by a technical knockout in the 11th round, Mr Insider. he got $1 Million for this fight but now the door is open for him to get mega $$$$$$$$$’s OS.

He will find the fight game is much different in the USA. If he fights in Vegas he will witness corruption and rigged fights like he has never seen before. Everybody in the world reckons he beat Azuma Nelson in Vegas but they gave the fight to Nelso.
Jack, thanks for the heads up re Undeniable, without the notice I would have missed an excellent programme.
The Royal Commission Reports for Ballarat and Melbourne made for compelling reading.
The commission seems to have done a very difficult job very well.
I think so. In a sense the hard part comes now as state and federal govts struggle with the recommendations.
Thank you Jack for letting me know when it was on in this part of the world. I did have trouble getting to sleep though wondering how many people I know have been the victims of these bastards and have never said anything
I read that they are knee deep in feet, tibia and fibula’s in British Columbia.
I saw that Milton. It seems quite bizarre that the flnding was the 13th in ten years but the police don’t believe they’re connected.
Strange indeed.
Well, if they were connected, they’d have found the whole body!
Eight of the 13 feet found, over a ten year period have been identified as belonging to six individuals, but none have actually been identified. The Coroner has determined no foul play was involved. wtf?? Is there an epidemic of Canadians amputating their own legs and throwing them to the sharks? It’s too bizarre to believe. Feet, some in swish joggers and with leg parts still attached washing up on beaches. I’m reminded of a photo I saw in an original copy of the book ‘The Undersea World of Jaques Cousteau’; Cousteau had hooked a shark off the coast of Congo and when they opened the shark’s gut, they found a dinner plate, half a human foot, and a tomtom drum. Somewhere out there is a hungry, and very angry, but quite lucky tomtom drummer.
I had to turn the doco off Jack and go back to it on iview today. It was a tough watch. No praise is high enough for Jack Ryan and Peter Fox. Both should be accorded the highest available honours for their service and dogged pursuit of these vile scum. Both should be immediately recompensed for their financial loss. I praise also the persistence of the press who have turned over the rocks that these scum have been hiding under for decades. I’m sure speaking to victims is a tough task and must be psychologically difficult, both during the interview and afterwards when you have to re-tell the story yourself. Well done doesn’t seem a high enough accolade. My hat is off to you, and your fellows, who have shown great compassion and great tenacity and great courage, to bring these crimes into the light.
lustitia tua propter Calamus est gladio – the pen is the sword of justice. Bravo.
My typo – Denis Ryan

Doug Jones for AL, Jack, a close-run thing. And, look, Joe Biden is out early with a fine goosing for Doug. Boy-o-boy, if Biden is a contender … Whatever, I can’t see Joe strapped into Kevlar.
Alabamans MAGA. Or should we say, mainly black Alabamans?
Not content with cutting early childhood education to the poorest who need it most and providing tax payer funded nannies to the wealthy, or cutting university funding or cutting Public Education and boosting funding to over funded Private and religious schools the coalition have of course cut funding to TAFE in 2012 under labor a training scheme was rorted by Private colleges for $320 million under the coalition the rorting went to never before seen levels $4.7 Billion in 2014 and 2015. This excuse was used to cut TAFE funding. Now Turnbull claims there is a skills shortage?? and that is why the coalition have lifted immigration to new highs ( while continuing to demonise legitimate refuges). Research and data prove there is NO skills shortage in fat just the opposite and Australia has the most skilled work force of comparable nations. Why does the coalition continue to cut funding for skills training and education? Why did Abetz claim wages were of control when they have fallen in real terms? The coalition have deliberately supressed wages and income just as they tried under no work choices. No surprises.

Out of 36 OECD countries we rate 30th in terms of what we spend on higher education-Gareth Evans in an interview with M.Grattan. He said he checked the figures because he could not believe it! I always loved this quote from Chief Looter, Worst Ever Treasurer and Hand In The Till The Age of Entitlement Man Sloppy Joe:-
Hockey said this on 4th November 2014 “We’ll find any way we can to take money out of universities”. I didn’t think it was an appropriate statement on my birthday.
isn’t it great that we have given child care a new name so that it becomes an entitlement unrelated to it’s original purpose, which was providing an opportunity for both parents to work.
btw the aus migration and refugee programme enjoys the most public support of any western nation, because it is largely skills based and rules based.
Man seriously? Do you just ignore all information regarding NO need for so many “skilled” migrants? Early Childhood Education, it has not been “childcare” for over a decade. The poorest in the community need the most access to Early Childhood Education so the poverty cycle can be broken. The wealthiest should not be Subsidised further for private nannies. Man you just highlight how out of touch most of your generation are.
it must be tough keeping up with all the fashionable ideas.
Education is a “fashionable ” idea is it? Helping those struggling the most is a fashionable idea is it? Seriously man, is it anyone younger than 80 or do you just wish you could turn back to the clock when you had some relevance so about 1850? We know you are a dinosaur you don’t have to prove it with every comment you make.
Just another of the coalitions monitoring programs.

Cant have people being informed can we now?
Bear in mind it could also save lives, Dismayed. If you landed up at death’s door in Emergency ICU would you not feel reassured that they would have access to what drugs you are taking and any major health issues? You may be on a drug that failure to keep taking would be fatal.
Sure, it may not suit everyone – those with no health issues, or strong feelings about their privacy. for example. I would opt out – and happy that I have that option.
You have the option of opting out – use it.
Better economic managers? Pigs Arse. Here we have the coalition caught out double dipping on emissions as if its not bad enough the nations emissions have hi record levels the coalition is claiming decade old projects as “new” emission cuts. Talk about rorting on National scale. Worst most corrupt government in Australia’s history. coalition supporters should hang your heads in shame. What about the grand children? Stuff them BBoomers need the concessions on everything before we worry about the future. No Surprises

Emissions report a few days ago said emissions are the highest in 15 years. The ONLY time they went down was whilst Labor was in and when the carbon tax was applied to the polooters. It never made sense to pay billions to the polluters. Lootereconomics.
Loved this:- “Yes the Liberals DO have a carbon tax…Hunt is making the taxpayers pay so the polluters can pollute…not the polluters. $660 million was borrowed in a so called ‘budget emergency’ to service 47 million tonnes of carbon abatement at $13.95 a tonne. Yes, this is Abbott’s REAL carbon tax because WE are paying it, not the polluters as they were under Labor. “If we load the cost of compensation (which the Liberals have kept) into Direct Action, it becomes a $5.6 billion dollar impost or by extension sets a price on carbon abatement at around $120 a tonne!! The dearest in the world!!”
