The cavalcade of identity confusion continues in the federal parliament with Labor backbencher Justine Keay announcing today she would refer her case to the High Court. Despite taking steps to renounce her British citizenship prior to nominating, the Tasmanian MP was a British citizen on the date of the election.
In the ugly partisan to and fro bargaining between the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader over what is to be done to bring this crisis of confidence in the parliament to an end, what is being offered from both sides is little more than a protection racket for those of their number who are still hiding under rocks.
Apparently the answer, rather like a good shampoo and conditioner, is to rinse and repeat.
For the many Australians who have not seriously considered a run at the federal parliament, it will be instructive to learn that the nomination form issued by the Australian Electoral Commission for all candidates to the federal parliament features a word-for-word reproduction of Section 44 of the Australian Constitution.

Excellent to see the Yes vote get up with a modest supermajority of 61.6%, albeit only on a 79.5% turnout – http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs%40.nsf/mediareleasesbyCatalogue/A05160B9DDD9C4BFCA2581D9000131CC?OpenDocument.
Prof Fulde from Vinnies will be grumpy tonight when the sh*$t literally hits the fan from all the expected SSM shenanigans.
Ah well now they can all start squabbling over something else other than the citizenship thing.
Could see the Libs implode
Here is the full National SSM Postal Survey breakdown, Mr Insider.

Love wins.
YAY ❤
Bloody oath old mate!
Australians have said YES to Same Sex Marriage, Mr Insider, the Postal Survey results just announced. Now the real battle begins in the Parliament!
Predictably an overwhelming Yes vote – rounded at 62 – 38. All states and territories voted yes. In TA’s electorate of Waringah, the vote was 75 per cent yes. Of the 150 HoR seats 133 voted yes, 17 no, including 12 from NSW (many of those in western Sydney and Labor held seats), three in Queensland and two in Victoria. Now time for the parliament to step up but I have my doubts we will have SSM by Christmas as Turnbull has promised. The delcons are just as interested in toppling Turnbull as they are obfuscating on SSM. More on this from me in The Aus in an hour or so.
Interesting bit of trivia that Bennelong had a bigger No vote. Ultra right?
My guess is it’s down to a big ethnic populations, the two largest there being Chinese and Indian. Similar story in the western Sydney seats that voted no. Blaxland (PJK’s old seats) voted 26-74.
Looks like Jacqui may come straight back into a casual vacany. One has declined outright and the other replacement (who probably got around 2 votes or so) is not keen to abandon his family life. And who could blame him!
