The Stitch Up

They had hoped he would go away quietly, fade into anonymity. Just another ex-cop with an axe to grind. In time they thought no one would listen. It has been 46 years almost to the day since Denis Ryan’s career as a Victoria Police detective came to an end after he tried to charge a priest, Monsignor John Day, with child sex offences. All hell broke loose in the Victoria Police Force; some of its most senior men tried to bring him down. But Ryan would not be silenced and people would, eventually, listen. In this week’s Australia Day honours, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia, recognition finally for his role in child protection investigations.

Ryan’s story is no tormented parable searching for meaning. The lesson is simple: do the right thing, no matter the cost. “I was a pain in the arse to the police force and the government. There was no way I would have stopped. None. I wish others would have done the same,” he says now. But Ryan paid a high price. It cost him the job he loved and the financial security of a police pension. He has just turned 86 and lives in a rented flat in Mildura, northwest Victoria, eking out a life on the old age pension. He knew at the time his doomed investigation of Day would lead to more victims. It troubles him to this day.

    Are these guys even sane?
$100,000 down the gurgler for the competition later, someone apparently sane changes the name to May Gibbs.

POTUS Trumps 2018 State of the Union address in full, Mr Insider, for those interested. I nearly fainted when FLOTUS Trump came into the room to applause, she looked ravishing.

This particular FLOTUS will have to maintain “ravishing” Henry.
Her devoted (less) husband only likes “young & beautiful pieces of a**.”
An ugly man in every way.

  • Dismayed says:

Many of trumps statements proven to be False already by fact check sites. We still have people blindly supporting this self professed sexual abuser, abuser of disabled people and bigot. the speech was again little more than the same divisive bigoted lies he has been spreading for years. Of course the rabid rapidly becoming irrelevant cons lap it up because it takes them back to their mythical white supremacist days. Anyone supporting trump is failing the human race. That is fact, not opinion. No Surprises.

  • Milton says:

I hear on abc24 about the cabinet files and how it is a great big security breach. Then they tell me of a site on which I can access those cabinet files!!! Is that not a bit odd??? Will someone have to take up living in some embassy as a result of this?

    • Boadicea says:

ASIO got jumpy and raided them Milt.
      Rudd’s suing………
Blimey, its a Pandora’s box of possibilities.
I can just imagine someone directing the trolley-wheeling removalist “take those cabinets in that office”. It wouldn’t have occurred to him to ponder on the weight of the item.
I wonder where the buck will stop?

      • Milton says:

They couldn’t find the key to the cabinets Boa, can you believe that stumped ’em?!

      • Dismayed says:

I would suggest the coalition Government sent in ASIO again to avoid any further embarrassment. The coalition have used ASIO and the FEDs as their brown shirts too many times for it to be convenience.

      • Jean Baptiste says:

I warned them not mess with Julian Assange. How does he do it? The man is a genius.
I think the spooks merely supplied a safe and let ABC continue access. It gets funnier by the minute.

  • Boadicea says:

Trump’s address was quite stirring I thought. Better than our lot can manage.

    • Henry Blofeld says:

Was superb Boadicea, I posted it above. His oratory is first class. Cheers

    • Dismayed says:

As I said “Of course the rabid rapidly becoming irrelevant cons lap it up because it takes them back to their mythical white supremacist days. Anyone supporting trump is failing the human race. That is fact, not opinion. No Surprises.”

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Trump’s address was quite stirring! That great pile of horse sh*t didn’t need any stirring. The blokes as smooth as a gravy sandwich but he’s nothing but a showbag.
As George Carlin says of the “American Dream”, “you have to be asleep to believe it.”
I expected the old sleazebag to conclude with “Now if you just make your way to the back of the tent where you can purchase Dr Trumps World Renowned Elixir, guaranteed to make you rich.”

    • Dwight says:

Worst moment? The entire Congressional Black Caucus sitting on their hands when the President cheered the lowest black unemployment figures in history. Funniest? I thought Nancy Pelosi had something terrible stuck in her teeth, her facial contortions were so severe.

      • Milton says:

Too tired to clap after all that working malarkey!

      • Milton says:

And if it was Obama the ovation would still be continuing. Like the laborlites here in oz the hypocrisy is breathtaking!

      • Dismayed says:

HAHAHA the worst moment was the moment he turned up. I see you continue to blindly support a self professed sexual abuser, bigot and person who delights in mocking the disabled. He is pathological dishonest. Says all we need to know about those that support him. They are bereft of integrity. No Surprises.

      • Boadicea says:

At least it was all positive stuff Dwight. Unlike the circus here

        • Dismayed says:

Yvonne get someone to wheel you back inside 2 days of sun in Tasmania has obviously further effected what is left of your grey matter

  • Dismayed says:

Australians, Australian business and Government, no doubt, will soon be able to buy into the Chinese Emissions Trading Scheme. Just imagine if Australia had been innovative and agile enough to have such a revenue raising, emissions cutting platform? The revenue could have been used to fund all manner of coalition pork barrelling. Oh wait, we did have one. But why would Australia want to lead in anything when it can just follow like conservative sheep? No surprises.

  • Dismayed says:

The coal fired Liddell plant tripped out again on Tuesday this is the one the coalition wanted AGL to keep going way past its life cycle. Strange I have not seen the same hysteria the Nation is subjected to by news when a blackout occurs even when most of them, over 97% are caused by poorly maintained Privately owned distribution networks. Why aren’t the news publication screaming about the coal fired generator tripping out? Talk about a stitch up? No Surprises.

  • Dwight says:

I’m on a roll. Just hit the wires: tonight’s designated survivor is Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue!

  • Dismayed says:

Why do the coalition and the news outlets continue to deliberately mislead this Nation when it comes to energy supplies? Talk about a stitch up? No Surprises.
“Using the AEMC’s Reliability Frameworks Interim Report, Memery’s chart shows that a whopping 92.7 per cent of blackouts are caused by distribution (poles and wires) faults, while just 0.24 per cent (around 10 seconds a year, per household) arise from insufficient generation.”

    • Dismayed says:

oops that should read 97.2% of blackouts due to distribution failures.

    • Razor says:

Because we never used to have insufficient generation faults. Also to extrapolate that figure across the entire population is ridiculous and you know it. Try doing what the average time the effected people were without power via the outage as a true measure.

      • Dismayed says:

So you are saying the very conservative friend of fossil fuels the AEMC are lying and providing false data? razor again you prove just how out of touch you are. Not to mention you comment is laughably nonsensical. Read again. the Majority of blackouts are caused by Distribution NOT Generation and the only intermittent generation is the fossil fuel power stations which the AEMO have declared as the biggest threat to stable power. You got nothing and continue to dig a hole for yourself. No Surprises.
