What makes a mass murderer?

Charlie Manson is dead. Fetch me a bin liner. I could make that funeral quick and inexpensive I assure you.

In the wake of Manson’s long overdue demise there were a great many catastrophically bad opinions expressed.

Chuck Woolery, a former television host and Hollywood conservative does a podcast (doesn’t everyone these days?) with fellow weirdo, Mark Young. It sounds as many podcasts do, as if two drunk men are sitting in a garage with a cheap microphone trying to outdo each other with increasingly stupid takes.

Woolery thinks Manson was an early supporter of the antifa (anti-fascist movement) and further that had Charlie been allowed to vote, he would have scratched a swastika in the box alongside Bernie Saunders’ name. By Woolery’s logic Jeffrey Dahmer would be a Reaganite, preferring to opt out of the expensive food stamp welfare program and make his own sandwiches.

Sadly it got a lot worse. On the other side of the political aisle, there were some appalling attempts to evoke sympathy for the man who facilitated and urged his followers to commit the most appalling deeds known as the Tate-Labianca murders in Los Angeles in 1969.

I see more trouble for the Looters ahead. Un National Barry O’Sullivan wants to know why…’ We can have Royal Commissions into the Unions, Pink Batts, Bill Shorten, Julia Gillard (which come to nothing, cost hundreds of millions, with no convictions) yet cannot, must not, have a RC into the banks who have form in ripping off the populace’ .Paraphrased but he makes a great point! The people want it. Listen to the people. Stop protecting The Big End of Town.

    • Bella says:

The Looters will never stop protecting the big end of town Bassy, their very existence depends on a bulging wallet.
Wouldn’t want to be a sycophant or a wanna-be, hell, how perfect is life if you can lord it over the minions with your millions.

    • Razor says:

Barry O’Sullivan is a champion bloke Bassy. I used to work with him. Down to earth and loves a cold beer on a hot day.

      • BASSMAN says:

Yes I like Bazza along with Wacka and Warren Entsch is a difficult Polly to beat. What a great PM Entsch would have made. Down to earth, respected on both sides. Much better than the snaky Shorten and T.Bull.

Just say they get a bank RC up…what is the point? If the hard right have control of the terms of reference it will be a toothless tiger. Howard did this…on the Iraq enquiry….would not allow any hard questions to be asked. If the terms of reference are not decided an equal number of pollies from all camps…FORGET IT.
Better still wait until a Labor govt is elected. They will ask the right questions.

        • Razor says:

Warren Entsch is a fantastic bloke as well. He dragged them kicking and screaming to the SSM debate. He pushed hard when Gillard squibbed it.

          • BASSMAN says:

Yes there was a time when Wazza was gonna call it quits but I am glad he stayed. He is one of the few who tries to keep the Looters in the real world.

Did anyone have bets on the big battery in SA not being ready?

  • Milton says:

Turnbull’s legacy may very well be the undoing of the liberal party. This is what we get for electing a darling of the q&a crowd. A polarising, populist piece of puff.

  • Tracy says:

I’ve sent a reminder to all EPL tippers, fixtures Wednesday morning our time and the normal weekend fixtures on Sunday 3rd.

  • Carl on the Coast says:

Apropos the topics du jour, even commentary covering the once gentlemanly game of cricket has now been pervaded with homicidal-like descriptors. I recently read in a sports mag in relation to fast bowling that – “If you can ‘execute’ the yorker well, it can be a good ball at the ‘death’ .”

Yes, the gentlemen of yore who graced the green at Bromley Common would renounce such narration.

  • Milton says:

This test is, as they say, ours to lose. It’s been an intriguing battle imho. Like to see Bancroft see this one out, he’s been going along nicely.

  • BASSMAN says:

    BRADMAN:- “Bowling”

The Hard Right (Bernardi, Abetz, Abbott, Andrews and Co) say Turnbull is on the nose because he is not conservative enoug-GULP! … no that is why he IS losing…because he has moved the Liberals too far to the right. Who said this? Not me. Howard did. He said the Looters have lost the middle ground by taking the party to the extreme right. He said this in a conversation with Hawke on TV a couple of years ago. Abbott is to blame here. The Un National leader lost his seat in Qld and Hanson got zilch seats because she is a poorly read racist unintelligible dumb piece of work that cannot even hold a civil rational conversation.
What an assault on the right wing rabid Liberals and especially No Nation in Qld. Mad Malcolm Roberts was thrashed in Ipswich and is at last of the public teet. Hard Right politics is finished not only here but around the world. Hanson was slaughtered In W.A. Right wing govts tipped out in Europe, Canada, New Zealand-the people have had enough of trickle down economics, Thatcherism, Bushism, Trumpism and Reaganism. Just love Howard though….whenever and wherever he campaigns to ‘lend a hand’, the hard right wing vote takes a dive whether it be in W.A. or Qld. I bet they pull him out of the Bennelong campaign after this routing in Qld.

    • Henry Blofeld says:

The good folk of Bennelong I do predict dear BASSMAN will elect Kristina Kennelly on December 16th, jettisoning links to the hopeless sinking Turnbull government. Then they will have a representative in the incoming Shorten government. Cheers buddy P.S. god help us if we have to watch ABC’s Antony Green stumbling around the “booths” on TV that night

      • BASSMAN says:

This would surprise me if JA lost. The Looters will put all they have into this because it could be the last straw for T.Bull whom I feel sorry for. If he could implement what he believes in, he would be ahead in the polls. As there are no candidates, he should go for broke and forget those hard rightwingers holding the country to ransom.

    • Milton says:

“the people have had enough of trickle down economics, Thatcherism, Bushism, Trumpism and Reaganism”.
You forgot to add Keatingism, Bassman but he still has a fan base esp around these parts.

    • Razor says:

Interesting you calling people racist Bassy considering some of your posts over the years regarding indigenous Australians…….

      • BASSMAN says:

Give me one example of a racist statement I have sed about an Aborigine

        • Razor says:

You constantly single them out regarding welfare and what they should and should not be entitled to. You have also made comments regarding their work ethic.

          • BASSMAN says:

            How many times is constantly?
Commenting on their attitude to welfare and intoxication is not racism…I do the same with whites, greens,, yellows and pinks…I stand by my comments. Sorry if they upset you.

          • Razor says:

I must admit I have pretty thin skin on the subject of our first Australians Bassy. I withdraw my accusation and apologise unreservedly.

          • BASSMAN says:

Apology knot needed you write great stuff. When I worked in the bush most of my mates were Aborigines…they were all good at sport and believe it or knot I was a footballer and a cricketer. Top blokes. Even as a kid playing for Alexandria Rovers there were many Aboriginals in our team…hee hee without them we wld have lost every bloody game!!

    • Penny. says:

Bassman, Malcolm Turnbull has today hit the lowest of the low today. He has brought in to the Bennelong bi-election the (what he thinks) will prove a winner. Bring back the scare campaign about people smugglers, bring back the fear about unwanted immigrants on our doorstep, make hysterical comments about how many refugees KK will allow into Bennelong. And you know what it will probably work, because if the large Asian population in Bennelong. I know a lot of Chinese people both here and in Australia, and they can be as racist as some of our best red necked yobbos. He has tapped into their distrust of Arabs from the Middle East, Muslims from places like Indonesia and Malaysia etc. I feel like a fool because I actually thought he might have some decency but apparently he has absolutely no interest in anything other than being the PM. More and more will we remember Julia Gillard with respect….

      • Jean Baptiste says:

        Exactamento, well said.

      • JackSprat says:

Given Labor’s record Penny, there is a high probability that “the trade” will start all over again when they get office. The people know it and Labor knows it and has no idea how to counteract it because if they denied that it would happen it would become another Labor election lie within 12 months.
And of course all the lies and hysterical misinformation that GetUp and the Unions have used in past elections are all forgiven?
A large % of the population endorse immigration. 70% disapprove of “boat” people.
The Chinese will have enough sense not to vote for Labor because of Billy Boy’s promise to increase taxes on the rich.

        • Dismayed says:

          JS? hysterical misinformation ? HAHAHAHAHA.

        • Penny. says:

JackSprat, maybe but the most worrying thing I heard recently from a Chinese friend of mine who spends his time between Australia and Malaysia was that he liked Pauline Hanson. When I reminded him of her 1996 stance against Asians taking over in Australia his reply was that Asians (particularly the Chinese) don’t like or trust each other, nor do they welcome other ethnic groups into Australia. I don’t quite know what to think of that, maybe you can help me out.

          • JackSprat says:

Worked with Chinese for years Penny.
They are not racist, they just know they are superior and are very quick to pull out the racist card if they they miss out on a promotion.
The reports indicate that there is a fair amount of conflict (distrust?) between Chinese who have been here a while back and the new arrivals who have never heard of Tienanmen Square.
Some of the most passionate objections to the “boat” people come from the generation of migrants who came after the war ( not the English) who did the hard yards of family separation while hubby went off to work, no assistance with education etc.
Every new immigrant group wants the country for themselves.
In my view and the view of many, the Chinese want an Australian colony – that gives them the Indian Ocean and a base against the only power that can rival them, India, a pincer movement against all the SE Asia States and much of the South Pacific. All of the great powers since 1788 have done the same thing.
It might take them 50 years and they are well on the way with our economic dependence on them.

          • Penny says:

JS, very well put. A Chinese colleague lent me a book once called ‘The Ugly Chinaman” by Bo Yang, so that I could partly understand their way of thinking. See if you can get hold of it. It explains a lot.

        • Jean Baptiste says:

70% disapprove of boat people. No wonder with the hysterical scare mongering they’ve been subjected to for political advantage. If it was 99% it still wouldn’t be right.
Those stats might have meaning to the sheep in the herd but they don’t cut the mustard for those who have learned to think for themselves.

          • JackSprat says:

Sorry JB, you are willing to quote poll results when it suits you.
            Why not in this case?
Maybe because it does not fit in with your view of the world?
Can I ask you a question?
Assuming the “trade” resumes, what numbers would you be comfortable with and after that number is reached how are you going to turn off the tap?
And all those people in the camps who would have gotten a ticket here can go and get stuffed I suppose.
I have asked this question time and time again and all I get is a resounding silence.
The reason for the silence is that people who support the “trade” do not come with any solutions and do not have to contend with the end result.

          • Jean Baptiste says:

We have obligations. The solution is to provide accessible sites for application close to the nations from whence these people are fleeing.

          • Jean Baptiste says:

Oh and bye the bye, I was quoting your opinion polls back at you.
What do we take per annum in “economic” refugees, about 200 thousand?
We’ve become disgracefully, odiously chary of shouldering our share of the burden.

My respect for New Zealand has increased exponentially with their offer.

Sorry I notice I have neglected to answer your question. I reckon 30% of our regular intake of immigrants should be refugees.
Can we afford it. Well we certainly could if we had the guts to force the multis to pony up with their fair share.

      • Carl on the Coast says:

Yes …., the very image of our PM out and about on the Bennelong hustings taking a bunch of selfies surrounded by a heterogeneous mob of racist Chinese and red necked yobbos would tend to cause one, who may not be fully absorbed in the local political orientation, to re-evaluate the respectability that may have hitherto been afforded to the national leader.

        It’s hysterical alright.

    • Boadicea says:

What I found hilarious was the report that voters pitching up in Ipswich expected to find Hanson’s name on the ballot paper and getting confused and aggressive when they couldn’t. Just shows how much her supporters know

    • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

This government is about as far to the right as Hawke’s was.
