Humble servant of the Nation

Parliament’s don’t ask, don’t tell view of Constitution

The cavalcade of identity confusion continues in the federal parliament with Labor backbencher Justine Keay announcing today she would refer her case to the High Court. Despite taking steps to renounce her British citizenship prior to nominating, the Tasmanian MP was a British citizen on the date of the election.

In the ugly partisan to and fro bargaining between the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader over what is to be done to bring this crisis of confidence in the parliament to an end, what is being offered from both sides is little more than a protection racket for those of their number who are still hiding under rocks.

Apparently the answer, rather like a good shampoo and conditioner, is to rinse and repeat.

For the many Australians who have not seriously considered a run at the federal parliament, it will be instructive to learn that the nomination form issued by the Australian Electoral Commission for all candidates to the federal parliament features a word-for-word reproduction of Section 44 of the Australian Constitution.

I know this may seem “unkind’, Mr Insider, but I have just seen an advance copy of PM Turnbull’s Memoirs and it makes “fascinating” reading, listing all his accomplishments during his term in office. Enjoy Bloggers

Dammit fellow. What an impertinence! How dare you claim that splendid chap Turnbull has done nothing.
Why, the noble fellow has ditched the CET, slashed penalty rates for some of the least well paid, , handed bags of lovely lucre to the nations quality folk……………. need I go on? The man is a veritable Robin Hood in reverse.
Who knows what he might achieve if only nitpicking scoundrels like yourself would get off his back.
Aussie through and through, a True Blue Blood.

      • Henry Blofeld says:

Twas indeed an impertinence, Mr Baptiste, considering there were many more similar pages “almost” ready for release! Bless Malcolm though he is a dinky di Aussie, his Mummy and Daddy both born in Australia. Cheers

  • BASSMAN says:

Mates are saying T.Bull will be gone soon….I can’t see a move on him though.
Why? 1. There is no one else 2. Turnbull is viewed as hard right by punters because
all of Abbott’s right wing policies are still in-refugees, terror scare, SSM, anti climate and renewables etc.
yet the criticisms are that he is too leftish FFS. Does not look leftish to me!
What does that mean? Any new leader would have to be harder right than him which would mean
    an even bigger election loss.
Looters may get to a stage where they might bring in Bishop not to win but like Rudd, to save some furniture

  • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

Jeez, if a dog shed hair like One Nation sheds Senators you wouldn’t let it in the house.

  • Razor says:

Dear me what is this country doing. These babies burn 80,000 litres of diesel per hour. That same diesel being imported……..

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/state-politics/sa-connects-its-hybrid-dieselgas-generators/news-story/7eb0233530f7dffaf38c9a6866b26553

    • JackSprat says:

I guess we will have to export more coal to pay for the diesel.
The planning horizon in that state must be measured in months.
I guess when you have big brothers to bail you out all the time, you can wallow in this type of bulls…

    • BASSMAN says:

Hey…they are not going to be on all of the time mate!

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Have you got another source to verify that number? In any case we’re talking peak power take up so you’d have to give us the projected figures on running time before getting too excited.
The turbs will be converted to gas two years hence.
Get used to it Razor, it’s the way of the future.

      • Trivalve says:

And the equivalent tonnage of coal would be?

        • Razor says:

We don’t have to import coal TV…….

          • Dismayed says:

We don’t import gas either that the GE TM2500 aero derivative turbines run on.

          • Dismayed says:

I will say a Combined Cycle Power Plant like that at Ichthys and other gas plants use to power themselves would be better but would take too long to build and fire up. Are you aware the SA Libs are keeping these and the the whole Weatherald plan as well as planning to spend another $500 million on Solar subsidies and other renewables if elected but continue to slam the very same policy they will continue with. Have to hand it to the cons they are the epitome of oxymorons.

          • Razor says:

Quote you source on the Libs keeping the policies?

As for not importing gas, due to the morons and Nimby’s in NSW, VIC and the NT we are paying too much for it!

          • Trivalve says:

We don’t have to import diesel either

    • Dismayed says:

GE TM2500 aero derivative turbines You should perhaps do some research. this are a dual fuel power plant. Anything written by Owens in the Australian is not worth talking about. He has been running the SA Liberal agenda on this. Again ideology is put ahead of facts and the National interest.

  • Trivalve says:

One Nation – I might never vote for them but they’re a gift that keeps on giving that’s for sure. From the sex shop disclosure on the weekend to today’s effort with the one-hour senator. I’m amazed at how they continually find new ways to entertain.

    No explanation needed.

  • Henry Blofeld says:

All MPs and senators will have until December 1 to declare and provide evidence they are not dual citizens, after the Government and Opposition agreed to a deal on how to try and resolve the dual citizenship saga, Mr Insider. Goodness, then we can go ahead and have an Election knowing only true blue Aussies are contesting it. This comes on the back of the 23rd consecutive negative Newspoll under Malcolm Turnbull’s leadership. Malcolm the ground is coming up fast and your “chute” hasn’t opened old buddy!

  • Boadicea says:

Anning in the senate with precisely 19 first preference votes. Is this a joke or what?

  • Rhys Needham says:

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-13/hanson-says-anning-has-abandoned-one-nation/9144142.

Amusing news of the day for a change, even if it’s still the usual political débâcle in the old ruined sheep paddock.

  • Boadicea says:

Just when we thought things couldn’t get more farcical, look what happens in the senate today
The senate is a joke – the entire Australian parliament is a shambles. where to next, one wonders.
Shorten in power will be an even bigger shambles.

    • Trivalve says:

Doubt it. But I do recall, this is the adults in control…….

      Ho bloody ho

    • Bella says:

I can’t see Shorten being a bigger shambles than the running fiasco the LibNats like to call a government. A few older Liberal voters at work are completely turned off by their in-fighting & constant brawling publicly. Those tax bonuses for big business have also gone down like a lead balloon with charities when so many services for the homeless & the poor have been slashed again AND they’ve still tripled the debt.

C’mon Boadicea, you must see it, the ineptitude of the Abbott/Turnbull experiment has almost spluttered to a dead stop because Australians do not trust them or believe that they are governing in the interests of all Australians.
Labor may not do much better, but nobody would ever knowingly recreate a bigger shambles than the current kings of deceit have in such a short space of time.
