While we contemplate the tragedy that has befallen the once great party of Billy McMahon, let us also consider what’s on Bill Shorten’s to do list today. Pop into the office late, check emails, go to question time, make merry, flip through soft furnishing brochures, have a long lie down.
That’s pretty much all Bill Shorten has to do right now. I would add Labor’s tactics yesterday to suspend Question Time and bring forth a vote of no confidence in the Turnbull government were terrible. It would have been a better exercise to drag up Liberal frontbenchers who had voted for the challenger, Peter Dutton, and asked them questions of the “Does the current Prime Minister enjoy your full support?” type. Almost certainly the questions would have been ruled out of order, but it would have made for great theatre.
Look, it’s not all bad news. At least Malcolm Turnbull won a poll for the first time yesterday in what, 18 months or more.
For now, it is enough to know that voters hate what they are seeing. The next Newspoll promises to be such painful reading for the Liberal Party that the numbers may just as well have been toted up by the Marquis de Sade. Thank you, Sir. May I have another?
In times of great tumult, if you are like me you will turn not just to print and online reports but to television for that additional sense of immediacy. I have followed the travails of the Liberal Party, leading to this reckless act of self-destruction on Sky News because it offers the best political coverage on television bar none. It does so without ostentation. It is political news done on the smell of an oily rag. The team led by David Speers is well connected, often reporting on SMS communiques received from members of the beleaguered party in real time.

AEMO latest report released states : after more than 100 trips of big thermal units since December 1 – that the ageing fossil fuel fleet is becoming increasingly unreliable and is posing the biggest threat to energy security, particularly in the soaring summer heat.
AEMO says new investment in wind, solar and storage, and the key components of its Integrated System Plan will ensure that Australia’s strict reliability standard of 99.998 per cent is not breached in any state in the coming ten years. No Surprises
turnbulls biggest mistakesw ere to try and appease the right wing freaks. every time he tried to appease them and bring unity to the liberals they changed direction again. I am no turnbull supporter but the cons as usual have put themselves ahead of the National interest. No surprises.
the cons and the far right freaks have destroyed the Liberal party. The recent non binding plebiscite that dutton insisted on showed just 38% of Australian favour restricting fellow Australians from having the right to choose. The biggest No votes were in Labor held Western Sydney seats where many people have strongly held delusion religious beliefs the highest Yes votes were in coalition held seats. this alone proves again the cons do not respect what the Majority of Australian’s want as long the cons get what they want. this is about the trumpification of Australia. resident con razor here con tinuously calls for attacks on minority groups as the way for the cons to win back the far out right whingers from phony. The facts remain under dutton more people than ever before have migrated to Australia. he and his toxic divisive racist bigoted cons will now run on demonising these very people. No surprises
the cons cons goes on and on. this is the one Dutton supporter ciobo is pushing. FN disgrace. No surprises.

Wonder if they’ve all finished their breakfasts yet? Champagne was, of course, not on the menu. At least not for the Libs.
Finally, somebody tells it like it is.

I don’t accept that. I’ve written a lot of pieces critical of MT but have had no instruction to do so. Rather his prime ministership has been very obviously bad. To be fair he suffered the same problems as Gillard, hunted down on two fronts. For mine, Gillard did a little better.
You’ve got to wonder what the members of the house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha are thinking right now about their aberrant colony?
JTI is it possible that Penny is the cause of your current IT woes? I’m thinking the Malaysian government’s secret service may have inserted a virus into your system in retaliation for her frank opinions regarding their politics. I stay it’s your fault Penny!!!!!!
Occam’s Razor, Razor.
Nah, I’m perfectly happy with the Malaysian government now Razor, so all is forgiven. Malaysia can’t afford a secret service anyway, becayse Najib stole all the money…..long live Dr. M.
Now the Australian government is another story…..
Mr. Insider if this shambolic Leader mess was a Horse Race the Stewards would have called an inquiry already. What a slap in the face to all hard working Australians. What a miserable bunch of losers the Liberals are and the sooner we are rid of them the better even if “gulp” Shorten becomes PM at the next Election, which we hope is soon. The Liberals deserve no sympathy from Voters imho
