After his loss to Gough Whitlam in the 1974 election, Sir Billy Snedden, former Liberal Party leader and superlative psephologist of yesteryear pronounced: “We didn’t win but we didn’t lose.”
Sadly Sir Billy came and went in 1987 without having been pressed to peel back the onion on that paradox but in a far off windswept Mahayana monastery, clinging perilously to the northwest face of Mount Everest, a small army of orange suited monks are still trying to work it out.
Without wanting to add to their philosophical toil, last week’s UK election provided a rich rota of Sneddenisms. Theresa May lost but still calls No. 10 Downing Street home. Jeremy Corbyn had a thumping victory but fell 64 seats short of forming government. Scottish National Party leader Nicola Sturgeon lost a full third of the seats her party carried in 2015 but was still babbling in front of a bank of microphones like her every word was gospel. Even Nigel Farage put a cheery face on UKIP’s predictable slide into political oblivion.

Anybody got any ideas regarding g a reliable source for baseload power? Some here should ashamed of themselves.
This kills people today. Not in some fairyland 200 years in the future!

From your link. Not a word about coal. You have the same as TBLS, Histrionic Personality Disorder. Oh wait you would have to have a personality first. Just more complications from your Aphasia.
“Electricity prices have doubled over the past five years as uncertainty about energy and climate policy stalled investment in new generation capacity, while transmission and distribution networks — which account for up to half the electricity bill — were allowed to over-invest in the assets that are used to calculate their returns.”
look on the bright side ….dead people make great compost…..don’t we?
That’s all you got Razor?
I’m a hypocrite. Geez I may never recover…..

On “Winners and Losers”, Mr Insider, when the smoke clears on this epic tussle being played out in Canberra between ex ousted PM Abbott and the “ouster” current PM Turnbull, I do wonder, with the Liberal Party in smoking ruins, who will emerge the “Biggest Loser”. A s frugal with money as I am I am tempted to spend a few shillings to have a Medal struck which I shall call the MOAD (Mother Of All Duds) to be presented to the winner of this contest for “services to the ALP!”. Bill Shorten cant stop smiling!
Finally the cats out of the bag. Energy Australia stating latest massive price rise due to closure of coal fired power stations. Hazelwood in particular. There are going to be a heap of cold pensioners in coming years. I suppose the latte sippers and virtue seekers will be comfortable. The milk flowing from the teat of Big Green is particularly warming I’m advised.
Spot on razor, as you might know I have always said we must keep Coal as an option for Australia . In the USA we see POTUS Trump giving Coal top priority and creating jobs in the process. As much as I dislike Tony Abbott it is on Coal I am in total agreement with him. Let Coal be an option for Australian energy too! P.S. those poor Electricity deprived chaps in South Australia would benefit immeasurably!
yeah I reckon there’ll be rolling blackouts this summer for sure. This side of the paddock too
Energy Australia is a retailer with guaranteed profits. That is why over 50% of price increases have come from “gold plating” of the networks. You really have no FN clue and are just proving it.
Get it through your head. the largest price rises over the last decade have been in QLD, NSW and Vic. Because they have more coal than the other states. Have you been to Dr’s or do you go to the local shaman? giving us information from an energy retailer oh my. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Ah here we go. Is this source “big green” Notice No mention of c o a l? Oh my HAHHAHAAHA.

Mr Razor ,
I am thinking you should be reading this articled link I am attatching and paying some attention to the intentions of Indian Government policy. With interest I am observing your presentations to this blog and in agreement with my colleagues it is to me clear that you are living in the land of the cloud cuckoos.
If you are meeting with Adani fellows I am suggesting if you are shaking hands to count your fingers immediately after handshaking. I am reminding you there should be attatched to each of your hands four fingers and a one thumb.
My companion is asking if you have opposable big toes, but he is a cheeky fellow.

By golly gosh Mr Baptiste! I am appreciative very much of your continued concerned regarding my education. By vishnas soul I shall be looking to you for further enlightenment should it be very necessary for me to need some amusement.
You can count?
Ah JB, a leading energy industry policy specialist, Anurabha Ghosh, and a Delhi think tank eh? Well by gosh (the other one) I’m beginning to think you’re on your way with the MIMO, misinformation method of operating.
Let’s have another side bet on no Indian coal exports right now, and no additional coal power station until 2027. I’d take the smarts of a billionaire over a subsidised think tanker any day. If this project is such a financial dog, why in earth’s name have they steadfastly pursued it in the face of all the histrionics that Big Green can muster?
Laurie Oakes “exposes” PM Turnbull mocking POTUS Trump at the Canberra Winter Ball, Mr Insider. Poor Malcolm now staring down 14 or 15 in a row negative Newspolls! Of course it was only a short time ago Turnbull was in Washington grovelling at Trumps beck and call, as Laurie reminds us, but am sure Trump will take it light heartedly.

Au contraire Hooray, my contact Boris, oops I mean Barry, in the administration tells me The Donald is over the moon. He is strutting about boasting to everyone who is obliged to listen that the “Hossy President Michael Trumble” is imitating his, The Donalds, magnificent oratory. He is tickled pink.
Four of his cabinet members are making enquiries about euthanasia for themselves and the Secretary of Defence had to be talked down from the White House roof. Another unnamed staffer had a ceremonial seppuku dagger taken from him and is under sedation.
Oh for goodness sake what is it with Sheridan and Shannahan, absolute beat up on the front pages today.
The SMH nags you to death (there’s a right way and a wrong way to peel a banana d’oh!) and The Australian is just becoming downright tedious.
WTF was Turnbull thinking?
I gave up trying to solve that riddle last year Dwight…….
He was probably thinking Trump is a boorish raving idiot.
Apparently it was a hoot – very funny, Malcolm at his best, Dwight. Everyone there acknowledges that. Harmless stuff that the media are revving up
I liked Xenophon’s comment today which went
“At the risk of never being allowed into America again, with due respect Trump makes a joke of himself every time he makes a speech”
Tin ear?
This could get interesting. She’d have the wood on The Donald surely?

I will say this dear Mr Baptiste, you are a trier dear fellow. Of course if you were a follower of Politics as long as your humble correspondent you would know that in any Administration there are those who have to be “eased” out for may reasons and if this be the case for the very “folksy” Kellyanne, bless her cotton socks, am sure POTUS Trump will let her down lightly. Cheers
You missing the point made. Trump will probably have to pay her to keep her trap shut in lieu of the sinecure. She didn’t get there on intellectual ability.
I think the Donald tried to lay the ‘wood’ on her JB and that’s where it went bad.
I don’t feel like a winner because Melbourne won on Monday or because Pakistan won the cricket last night.
I feel like a winner because Collingwood and England lost.
I feel pretty level after those results. Except that England probably deserved it.
This is how to win, Mr Insider, as we see the mighty Phar Lap win the 1930 Melbourne Cup carrying top weight too. You, from a famous horse racing family, no stranger to champions yourself, Manikato springs straight to mind, a real champion!

Saves money. So what? Has nothing to do with the Climate argument. Solar hot water was around long before climate change raised its head but you take it for whatever you want.
HAHAHAHA. there used to be guy here the “old unimproved Dave” he once stated that he has no reverse gear only straight ahead even is that meant smashing into a wall. you suffer from the same absurdity.
Found th H and A key have you.
Keep practising and you might get the hang of them ……… next century?
Yet another politician whose private choice of renewables doesn’t gel at all with his public rhetoric. Hypocrites the lot.
BTW Smoke, ta for the kind words,
Appreciated, Bella
Bella,
One can have solar power and not believe in climate change. It’s about price.
