The Liberal Party broad church is groaning under the strain of ideological and personality conflicts. While a fully blown schism at some point before the next federal election or shortly afterwards is improbable, it remains well within the realms of the possible.
Political parties come and go. Minor parties tear themselves apart on an almost annual basis. The Liberal Party has been a monolith in Australian politics since 1948 but that does not mean it has a guaranteed future. In a sense it is its own worst enemy, a collective gaggle of participants from the Menzian centre to the outer reaches of the spectrum on the right.
These were the conditions found within the Labor Party post-WWII and led to the split of 1954-55, keeping Labor from forming a viable alternative government for nearly two decades.
Prior to World War II conservative parties in Australia came and went, often tearing themselves apart over weaknesses in administration and brawling over policy and ideology.

Good to see Mr Cousins calling out the ridiculous coalition government. the abbott years were a debacle the turnbull years even worse. as usual the coalition have managed to take the nation back decades in a matter of years. No Surprises.

No need to worry you assured us Adani was never going ahead. I’ll do you a deal. If Adani doesn’t go ahead I’ll never post on here again. If it does you don’t. Now according to you over the last couple of years your on a winner. Your call?
Tips posted, fish hooks sharpened. Happy and safe Easter to all.
JtI, I noted your pleasure at the Hawks scratchy start to the season in reply to another post. Early in the week a client, big Hawks fan and Uni lecturer in Statistics at UQ, was bemoaning the Hawks poor form. He informed me no team that has lost the first 3 games of the season has ever made the finals. A happy thought for your Easter. đŸ˜‰ (Unless you follow the Swans or ‘boners.)
JTI,
Now what would any Pollie of ‘calibre’, least of all Sir Robert make of this?

Opportunity knocks!!!
Jack The Insider how long ill we have to bend over and kiss our arses goodbye when the nuclear bombs hit us?
Assuming at least one “boomer” (Ohio-class missile sub) in the central Pacific, 20 minutes from launch order to Pyongyang. If you’re not there, don’t worry. But, Tridents are all MIRV, meaning too many warheads–12 per missile.
We can deploy a Tomahawk with a W-80 “dial a yield” warhead from surface or sub. About 850 kph, so it depends on where the Vinson battle group is. 2+ hours max.
Or, a single 1.2 megaton B84 gravity bomb from a B2 stealth. About 14 hours flight time from Whiteman Airbase in Missouri. We dropped a couple dummy bombs in Korea this way in 2013. The USAF’s way of a shout-out to Kim.
A Minuteman III from the US, with one of a variety of warheads offered, about 30 minutes flight time.
Nothing to worry about.
there are some real bargains on flights and accom for Seoul and Pusan this week.
Yes Dwight, it would be a good idea to not get the Trumper and USA really pissed off.
I suspect recent day conversations with China and Russia are preempting a strike by the US on a DPRK missile facility as a smack down. The longer the Kim dynasty breeds, the more crazy Fwits they seem to produce.
See this is the stuff the yank knockers forget Dwight. No country in the world can match it.
Yeah, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. Start slinging nukes and see what happens.
I hope the US, or Trump, don’t overdo the perceived threat of nth Korea. Dwight. it could be considered an impoverished county under the thumb of a egotistical and paranoid dictator. Forget the nuclear shit, Nth Koreans eat kimchi, and with chilli, 24/7 – that is, if they can afford to eat. The wests biggest threat is if those kimchi munchers conspired to encompass the natural gasses from this source; envelope it in a balloon, if you will and drop it on Baptiste’s bedsit, and that would be the extent of kimmies threat.
Leave nk to china and japan, Trump.
Sending Marshall Tillerson to Moscow might not be the great idea Donald thought. You’ve been watching too many movies Donald. Y’ought just blowed the smoke off them Colts, holstered ’em and swaggered off drawlin’ “mission accomplished.”
“Mr Putin, what we have here is a failure to communicate.” *
“Mr Tillerson, how would you like a Russian rocket up your arse?”
“Damnation and gee whillikers let me see that consarn script again.”
This is worth a read,

Tips in. Happy and safe Easter to all.
I say JB, I see you attempt to make a ‘funny’ about the very real prospect of a bunch of H2 Armageddon mushroom clouds on the one hand, but you wallow in pessimism and despondency over a very few AGW caper Co2 cloud puffs on the other.
You appear to be quite a confused fellow at times. me old mate.
Settle down precious. Nobody is going to drop nuclear weapons on anyone. It’s all theatre and grandstanding.
AGW however is very real and our tenure on this beautiful planet is just about up. I’m not confused, you’re just a wuss in denial.

Carl, a late breaking qualification. Kimmie just rang. He’s in the situation room with his chiefs and they are all as “pissed as badgers in a moonshine camp”. A couple of the Generals want to “let a couple rip” just in case “capitalist piggy eyes Trump” decides to go pre-emptive. (That mouth on The Donald will be the end of us all, I’m telling you)
I don’t know if Kimmie is winding me up or not, but it could be on. He’s a funny bugger when he’s on the turps.
Oh and he wants to know your address, just a general location will do, and will you be home on Saturday afternoon? He wants to send you an Easter egg or something? He’s slurring his words a bit. There was something about “I’ll give that bloke a real sudden climate change he wont forget in a hurry.” No idea, must be something lost in the translation.
Cheers, your old mate JB.
Have a great Easter!

Thanks JB, and despite our occasional harmless locking of literary horns, Happy Easter to you me old mate.
I’ve probably posted this thing ten times before but in a discussion about leadership it bears watching again:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNFED5JxQDA
GEEZ:-they are like a hunting pack over the wall. They all want Tony back. Well I don’t mind that but a few days after the last election when Tony Nutt addressed the party room amid boos and jeers he told them all that internal polling showed that if Tones had been leader Labor would have won in a landslide by 30 odd seats. Yep I wouldn’t mind Tony back. It might waken Bill up from his hibernation.
Just wondering whether those on the blog who thought that the Adani Coal mine would never get off the ground still hold the same views?
If they are worried about the odd billion loan for a railway line (which the government should never never contemplate) , I wonder what will happen when it goes over budget for many billions.
Chevron, I think, was faced with a $20 billion overrun up on the NW shelf.
It hasn’t got off the ground yet JS. Just because a resources company announces it’s intent to create a new mine, doesn’t mean it will ever produce anything. The art of maximising return is to control the amount of product on the market. It will be interesting to see what Adani is really up to!
How does a coal mine “get off the ground” ?
The Adani proposal is a scam. it will cost Australia upfront and continue to cost Australia for decades and decades. The coalition are being scammed and will cost this Nation $Billions. The fact no financial institution want to touch the scam should be reason enough. That is before you even consider the environmental disaster it will cause to the already damaged Reef system.
But you said it would never go ahead. So why worry?
Chevron deserve it
One has to wonder about Turnbull’s side of the Liberal party.
In the recent NSW by-election, the Liberal candidate who got elected had info in the paper indicating that she had an MBA – nope just in the process of completing it – everybody knew that.
Claimed her first vote was for Howard – not possible apparently.
Claimed in a stat dec that she had lived in the electorate for 10 years – has since apologized for getting it wrong.
Her political career is off to a good start – credibility zilch.
Got in with a sizable majority also – says something about the voting public.
Says a lot about the Liberal Party Branch that selected her also.
My bet is that the Libs will lose NSW at the next election – we will then have a very left wing Labor Premier.
Hope he is not as bad as Andrews.
He’s worse JS, much worse. Seems like the idiots are queuing up right now.

JB,
The core of your scheme already exists, see:
http://www.austrade.gov.au/International/Invest/Guide-to-investing/Coming-to-Australia/significant-and-premium-investor-programs
Now I know that given your sheltered existence and overwhelming disposition to see the best in your fellow man, you will be shocked to even contemplate that it is alleged that some of the ‘investment funds’ do seem to be recycled through multiple applications !!
Surely not!!
Hahahaha. I know. That’s why I said “just keep on importing them”
I have submitted my design and estimate for The Statue of Lucre, and I’m feverishly working on my adaption of “The New Colossus. Input would be welcome. It must include a nod to Jazza, incorporating the line “Don’t send us any of your shit!”
http://www.libertystatepark.com/emma.htm
Investment fund recycling is a part of life PLMO, Not ideal but it does indicate desirable resourcefulness.
And theres only so many bona fide millionaires who want to come anyway.
Give ’em heaps.
