Here I was all set to knock out a Christmas column full of cheer and bonhomie but life, or more accurately, Daily Life has intervened.
I normally disapprove of intra-media byplays but Fairfax Media’s Daily Life section has become so full of cranky third wave feminism that someone needs to hold it up to the light. Among this waste of ink and kilobyte street corner psychobabble, comes a contribution from self described feminist Polly Dunning who tells her harrowing tale of giving birth to a shame boy. The good news is she’s slowly getting over it.
I’m not allowed to swear anymore, at least not at volume but this is sorely testing my already fragile grip on self-control.
At first blanch this was merely another addition from women who have recently given birth and have come to believe that having done so, they have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But on further reading this is a tale of a woman not just at war with men but also her own male child.
Full column here.

says: ” As far as I can tell neither I nor anyone else is questioning the bleeding obvious that the science is inexact, merely pointing out that regardless of any plus or minus error in the methodology sea levels are rising and will continue to do so.
You’re just quibbling Carl, you remind of the potty theologians denying evolution because of the “missing link.” ”
JB, I am not one of those who has denied, on here or elsewhere, that improvement through progressive inherited change over time has and will continue to occur. I am a keen observer and believer in evolution in all its forms.
For you to imply otherwise is obviously a fig leaf of your imagination.
However, I may have occasionally mentioned your “missing link” reference, and in this regard I’m heartened by your admission that climate science is “inexact”; in that it accommodates and spans the descriptors of imprecise to vague, hazy and woolly. Whilst your personal understanding on the subject appears to be evolving, you obviously remain unaware or unreceptive (or both) to the expansive, varied and debated horizon upon which the climate science occupies at this time. Hence your over indulgent comment about being “run over by a bus”.
A more evolutionary and appropriate idiom would have been ‘run over by a billy cart’. And any atmospheric and earthly climactic changes that may have been recently observed, while “bleeding obvious”, are merely flesh wounds me old mate.
I did not imply that you didn’t accept evolution, I likened, very accurately , your methodology in deluding yourself and attempting to delude others about AGW, to the specious artifices of the creationists in their reality dodging gobbledygookedness.
It is possible that you really don’t see the difference. It’s hard to say, you’re so persistent in your misapprehensions and nebulous flowery flim flummery you might well be so far down the rabbit hole you really cant appreciate the gravity of the situation confronting humanity?
Why cant you be like Rodent and at least offer up the opinions of some titled half witted boggly eyed stooge to fossilfuelfiefdom for a bit of variety? You’re like trying to stick jelly to the side of the fridge with the real estate magnet Carl. You flop to the floor, gather yourself up and start pouting and puffing gainsay again from a new angle.
Best wishes. Here’s your bait old trout.

Thanks for coming.
Would it be possible Coast for you and Baptiste to be dropped off at the closest iceberg, measuring tools in hand, and with adequate supplies such as a 2 man tent, and left for 6 months to resolve this climate change matter once and for all? A wonderful suggestion from Snott indeed and who knows you may fall in love!
Idiot

Something for you to wail about dismal
Robin, since you bring it up. the US guys don’t pay tax here and therefore don’t get a tax credit back home either so they still pay taxes back in the US. This has been going on for a long time. The guys do not benefit, the Company benefits. Considering there are many many guys in Australia not working these position could easily be filled by experienced Aussie’s. The other Diamond Rig the Apex had over 4000 applicants for the roustabout positions. Many of those applicants would be Toolpushers, Drillers, etc. just wanting to work. I have worked on the Monarch up off Vietnam in early 2012. The entire crews was good old boys straight out of the guff. They struggled. Quadrant formerly Apache has had the rig for some time down here.
Whatever happened to your Nostradamus like article JTI?
My net has been down for a week now. Struggling away with mobile broadband and no telephones. Ridiculous really but to be expected. There will be a new column up tomorrow but the almanac piece is history.
Ahh yes, I know the Telstra trouble well. Have just come off a period of 2 weeks without mainline feed. Telstra did send a phone out to be used as a Wireless hotspot, after we called to find out what was going on. Pity about the almanac always good stuff.
Jack,
Been there done that when the local Telstra Cable station cracked it, was down for a month while they replaced failed equipment.
Forget the bloody phone option, it is a snail and useless. After us cracking up, Testra sent us off to their local store for a 4G Dongle, which they paid for and topped up as the delay continued.
We now kick it up every time there is a network problem (often) and it is a godsend when we travel. Multiple devices are no problem for our new best friend.
As for the NBC, I remain undecided whether we would be better off with our old cable connection, but I’m not looking forward to our service conversion in a fe months time. It’s a. But like having your right arm chopped off isn’t it?
Sounds horrible, Lou but as a returned Telstra customer I note your advice and will call upon dongles and what have you if need be.
I just love the Aussie taxpayer they pay for everything says Sussan Ley. How shameful Sussan.
This goes with that you know

No surprise both both Bill Shorten on answers , and Malcolm Turnbull the waffler now having the lowest ratings on record . Both full of drivel , both have factional internal forces sharpening their knives having the old repeat like the past. The frequent co- ordinated rabble from politics today , shows 2017 will breed more “sloppy deficiencies ” just like 2016 , further annihilation throwing pragmatism out the door in our precious Canberra circus house.

Strange why Susie don’t use her own plane having qualifications of IFR ratings enabling to penetrate bad weather and night flying . Most in that position, usually chase hrs in air bourne operations , now implicated as typical politicians rorting .I find her at times trying to excel showing empathy various times , but, too impetuous forgetting the damage our both parties are doing in travel rorts of the past. Lets not forget they are all in this rorting together with Tony Burke way out in front with 4.6 million since 2008 in travel overseas , office expensive arrangements , mistery trips overseas the media deatailed clocking up in secrecy . This is also on the internet to read , not just print media .Many like me don’t believe it is “all official government business”.
Her own plane Rodent? Maybe she doesn’t have the money for fuel.
Poor lowly paid public servant she is.
I find it disgusting that nothing has been done to stop abuse of entitlements by politicians. Particularly when they have no compunction in stripping citizens of legitimate entitlements.
What the hell is going on?
I don’t think I can vote for any of them anymore. I shall draw pictures on my ballot paper to avoid the fine that will further contribute to their coffers.
Nothing unites us all, be they from the left or the right, like the rorting of the entitlement system. Once they get into the big house I’d bet the first order of business for all of them would be to study the system with a fine tooth gold comb to work out how to pilfer it to the max.
Sad part is we the taxpayer will have our little whinge & the thieves will just laugh at us behind closed doors & change SFA. I’m disgusted.
Regards Yvonne, Bella
EASY:-don’t vote for them!!
quite so

says: “Your bizarre leaps of logic and assumptions never fail to amaze Carl. It’s so peculiar I will never be quite accustomed to it.”
I understand the struggle you’re having JB, it’s quite common amongst those who are unreceptive to the Socratic technique of discourse. Frank Zapper was spot on when he said “A mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it’s not open.”
Give it some thought me old mate, eh?
PS. The professor’s update you linked is 2 years out of date. Only 8 years to go. Got your bags packed?
Struggle with it? Hardly, you’re so patently transparent in your prevarications, you amaze and amuse me. Frank Zappa (how the hell did you get that wrong, are you drunk?) was wrong in so far as minds, like yours, do work when they are not open, they just don’t work very well.
The link was two years old! And you quoting Socrates? You wouldn’t if you knew more about him.
Here , get something contemporary into ya old mate.

JB 04:57pm.
Yes and obvious to us all many who caught you out on the blog knowing your brain filled with conspiracies , you not able to construct a sentence explaining yourself why you don’t fall into line with others on WTC 911 and Apollo moon mission , you believing was fake. You saying WTC was caused by Americans .Dumb stuff JB , and cooked brain, heeeee.
Cheers.
Why not? Because I’m not a simple minded drone who “falls into line” Rodent. I enquire, I research , all day and every day for months if necessary. Because I can. Instead of just gainsaying why don’t you debate me? Because you know I am right, you are needy and unable to even contemplate individuation, and you cant deal with it.
I was created a human, why would I want to live like a sheep?
This is way above your head, but it doesn’t matter what you believe Rodent, what matters is why you believe it.
Just starting from there could bring you to an awareness that you never even thought existed before.
It’s not for you Bambi, be happy with what you’ve got, the only thing you’ll get from me is feedback that will frighten you.

Seems Health Minister Ley has form on massive travel rorts paid by us the mug taxpayers. Aside from her lame bleating over the Gold Coast unit purchase ‘ on a whim’ seems she took hubby on a $11,000 round trip to Perth to go to a Big Bash cricket match together all first class of course with a comm car as well. I would link to the grubby details of yet another $70 odd thousand dollar ten day overseas jaunt by Ms Ley & partner, but that appears to now be unavailable online. Since yesterday.
Sick of the lectures about ending the age of entitlement when these greedy MP’s continue to spend our money on themselves like Arab Oil Sheiks & that goes for ALL sides of politics. If a CEO in business behaved in the same way their shareholders would be furious.
I see Ms I’m Entitled has now apologised & agreed to repay FOUR taxpayer funded trips to the GC that she most likely expected to get away with. Morally she would have known it was wrong.
So much for ‘due economy to be observed’.
And all this after this nasty cartel slashed 300,000 aged pensions.
