Mother and child disunion

Here I was all set to knock out a Christmas column full of cheer and bonhomie but life, or more accurately, Daily Life has intervened.

I normally disapprove of intra-media byplays but Fairfax Media’s Daily Life section has become so full of cranky third wave feminism that someone needs to hold it up to the light. Among this waste of ink and kilobyte street corner psychobabble, comes a contribution from self described feminist Polly Dunning who tells her harrowing tale of giving birth to a shame boy. The good news is she’s slowly getting over it.

I’m not allowed to swear anymore, at least not at volume but this is sorely testing my already fragile grip on self-control.

At first blanch this was merely another addition from women who have recently given birth and have come to believe that having done so, they have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But on further reading this is a tale of a woman not just at war with men but also her own male child.

Full column here.

“Congress has certified Donald Trump’s presidential victory over the objections of a handful of House Democrats, with Vice President Joe Biden pronouncing: “It is over.”. Goodness Mr Insider given the rubbish we have seen coming from Trump of late we wonder how long this fellow will last as POTUS? Then again he may surprise us all. 13 days till the inauguration. Does the World laugh or cry?

I think he might surprise HB. As I commented earlier, he’s like the Campbell Newman of the USA. People may not like what he’s doing, may not like him either. But he’s shaking them up and ”draining the swamp”. People, especially corporates, are sitting and taking notice. His moves on the automobile industry for instance.
Bit like a wildcard at the moment. But there are times in this country when I think we need a Trump. This seemingly endless non-governing, back-flipping mob with their hasty, bad decisions we are experiencing is totally unacceptable.

      • Dismayed says:

Geez, just when it looked like you were starting to come to some sort of sensible position you come up with this crazy comment. Trump is the worst thing to happen to this world in a long time. He is already exhibiting Dictatorial ways, shouting over twitter at companies and countries. Now, you purport to be a good german oh sorry good conservative but here now you are backing trumps plans to simultaneously restrict free trade and punish companies for making their own decisions and enact tariffs and taxes and splurge on government spending? Remove access to affordable health cover for 50 million Americans. This is also the person who brags about his sexual assaults and deliberately divides his nation along racial and religious lines. The last thing Australia needs is anymore extremists in Leadership position deliberately using divisive language and attacking groups on racial religious grounds or blaming and shaming those in the society struggling the most. Again Trumps “economic” plans to date are ridiculous. Trump is not “draining the swamp” he is appointing the people he was talking about to senior influential positions. By the way Newman was an abject failure.

Tracy – don’t think there’s any epl games this weekend, Tracy. btw – how the hell did you get 5 pts in front of me?

    • Tracy says:

Yep Milt, realised when I saw Man City had thrashed West Ham in FA cup. Anyhoo I’m slumming it in the nations capital until tomorrow so that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

  • Milton says:

DisMade – I thought I posted this last night, but i’ll repost. If you’re struggling for a name for your much awaited autobiography can I suggest ” A Tit Does Not a Summer Make”. I think it’s got legs (albeit with an awkward scissor action), what you think?
And as i’ve been trained to observe weaknesses, flaws etc and recommend improvements, all for the communal good mind, can I suggest you scrub up on your humour, or is it irony? You come over all sanctimonious to those who think it is ok to see how Trump pans out, making all sorts of shrill comments, yet find it acceptable to have cheap shots about a cricketer who’s been whacked in the head twice, and a modern footballing great , husband and father of 4 , whom it would seem is in a seriously bad way. A bit of balance and sensitivity wouldn’t be too much to ask.

    • Carl on the Coast says:

Milton – ” … can I suggest ” A Tit Does Not a Summer Make”. I think it’s got legs (albeit with an awkward scissor action), what you think?”

      A maid on a winter’s morn perhaps?

    • Dismayed says:

Milton on Hird. His mess is of his own making. While I do understand Depression having had a couple of mates and family members struggle and help them work through their struggles for the media to now start painting Hird as a victim is well Dismaying. If you find offence in remarks that is something you should consider working on. Your reaction and Response is Yours alone. My words have NO bearing on your response that is Yours and yours alone. You continue to exhibit an inability to understand and comprehend this, you as do many refuse to accept responsibility for your own decisions and reactions.. Many who suffer depression have the same issue. On trump. I will be proven correct. He is a danger to the world economically, strategically, militarily more importantly morally. It is becoming clearer those that support him are lacking some very important human characteristics. Sound judgement being the most evident.

    • Razor says:

The blokes an idiot Milt with what I imagine is a significant personality problem. He has no ability to demonstrate any empathy and in particular has no personal insight. As I’ve said many times before; imagine having to spend time in the same house / workplace with this bloke! I reckon I’d be like the Indian in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. I’d be breaking down a wall to escape.

      • Dismayed says:

Finally you are coming to grips with your pathological dishonesty or are you just imagining it? Most of what you read and then write here comes directly from Your Imagination. At least your imagination allows you to stay in 1950. Imagine all the people.

  • Trivalve says:

This review thing at the cricket – I don’t know how the snicko system is set up but I know a bit about sound and sonic signatures and I reckon they’re going well beyond their brief by giving these blokes out, as Smith was yesterday and Wahab just now. There’s no guarantee that those so-called ‘spikes’ are even generated by ball on bat; the amplitudes look so low that it could have been bat brushing pad or a number of alternatives. The laws of the game were designed for the human senses and to send these guys without any corroborating technical evidence (e.g. hotspot) is just wrong. Not out.

    • smoke says:

zakly …no corroboration… benefit of the doubt still is applicable?

    • Dismayed says:

TV- I have to agree. I think the bat handle “creaking” with its movement is responsible for many of the “spikes”

    • BASSMAN says:

      Dismal makes a good point
What about having snicko AND the white spot visual being upheld together for OUT…in
other words U MUST have BOTH of them for a decision against the willow Bald?

  • Rodent says:

Yes I take your comment and believe you while times you have a few reasons on me being sensitive expanding outward running wild while believe I follow the virtuous guidelines most times.
As for our James Hird the coach , I think it won’t come to this by looking overseas knowing we are a passionate country deep down while few exceptions some media outlets can be ruthless intensifying into further drama .
The way I see it is a lttle like homosexuality , we now except the fact that we must now address these issues into subject matters of debate to eliminate and further abuse , and we must start from the heads above I Canberra following the Jeff Kennet push now up and running called “Black Dog Institute”. I believe another name some where on this. We can become a little irrational at times neglecting the ultimate fact this is happening that illness is eminently a killer sadly.
    Cheers

From reading the end of this blog, one would think that some of the little gentlemen’s are getting grumpy. Perhaps they haven’t had a new years root, or worse missed out on the christmas one and is down two for two?

  • Not Finished Yet says:

My first post for a month as I have been in the process of changing jobs and everything that goes with that. So a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to JTI and all posters.

I have been musing on the Trump phenomenon and have come to the conclusion that Americans, for the first time ever, have actually elected a European president. By which I mean that in the USA you have to be able to convince voters that you are a morally good person to become president, whereas in many European countries, perhaps most notably France, nobody cares about your morals provided voters think you will be good at the job. I think Trump is the first to break that tradition.

And I find that puts me in an odd position. I think George W Bush will go down in history as one of the worst US presidents, yet I would happily invite him to dinner at my house. Obama, in my view, is neither as good as his supporters claim or as bad as his detractors claim, but I would be delighted to have the Obama’s over for dinner. Perhaps Trump will turn out to be a great president, but I still would not let him set foot on my property. A person’s competence in their job is only a part of who they are.

Abbott 2/1, Bernardi 5/1. Betcha Tones leads with his chin though

Mack, can I get set for $50 on Abbott and $20 on Bernardi?

Geez Dismayed. You sure got them old boilers riled up now! A posse and a cacophony of old chooks a’squawking and a’hollering on your tail. Don’t know what you said to give ’em such a case of the conniptions! (but do it again soon)
Run Dismayed run as fast as your slightly longer than average legs will carry you. Them old biddys is wild man!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y_EMkLj4ko

    Give ’em heaps!

    • Mack the Knife says:

Buster Keaton JB? How desperate and juvenile, but, whatever turns your crank.

    • Dismayed says:

Hey JB. I continue to do the unthinkable like you I present facts. Too much for the old cons to digest so they pull out the victim card then follow it with the personal attacks because they got nothing. From the beginning of JTI’s blogs the cons have tried to run off anyone who does not “conform” to their skewed view of the world. Not going to well are they. Oh, Thankyou for recognising I did eventually talk about my height again that being slightly taller than average for the Year I was born in. Give ’em heaps and heaps! HAHAHA.

  • Rodent says:

    Jack the Insider.
After reading Greg Sheridan today , I am a bit confused as he is just who is the boss in Indonesia today with suspects from the military now waving the threats and setting the agenda into total confusion .It seems the possible elected Joker Widodo appears to in the background may be tied up some place out of the action.
How the bloody hell can this country have stability when forces from the military are wheeling the big stick , beats me.

    • Mack the Knife says:

Rodent, the military and the police have a huge influence in Government in Indonesia. They have their fingers in a multitude of pies, some legal, some definitely not legal. It is a very strange place as I found out while working there on three separate occasions in three different locations. Some places in Indonesia I would have preferred not to get to know, and will not return to several. There was a very good essay written by the last Dutch Governor when Indonesia gained independence, I’ll see if I can find it. He was very upfront in his opinion and summations.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

      ……. “I am a bit confused”………….
A huge improvement Rodent. That’s better than you’ve been for years.

    • Trivalve says:

Did my comment here to Rodent evaporate Jack, or was I naughty?
