Humble servant of the Nation

The only Newspoll that matters for Turnbull is the thirtieth

Malcolm Turnbull set the trap for himself on September 14, 2015. Standing on the parliament lawns, he announced his resignation from cabinet and challenged a first term prime minister who had been in the job for two years to a spill in the party room.

Turnbull gave three reasons. A lack of economic leadership. A lack of cabinet process and the loss of 30 consecutive Newspolls.

“The one thing that is clear about our current situation is the trajectory. We have lost 30 Newspolls in a row. It is clear that the people have made up their mind about Mr Abbott’s leadership.”

Last year he told Miranda Devine he had regrets.

“I do regret having said it only because it allowed people to focus on that, rather than substantive reasons,” he said.

This is classic Turnbull. He doesn’t regret making the statement. He regrets only that his words have been manipulated and misconstrued his words by others.

    Go, Turnbull!
More important matters. What a clusterfull with the cricket.
Team management should have kept Bancroft away from the press in SA, and should have instructed Smith to straight bat any questions, ” no comment, there’s an inquiry announced.”
No pressers when they got back.
All three should appeal the severity of their suspensions.
And can CA tell us exactly what Smith knew and when did he know it?

  • Carl on the Coast says:

Yes, if a sizeable cohort of the electorate considered a PM was unsuitable to hold office, largely on his demonstrated ability to partake of a raw onion and to bestow the gift of a gong to a duke, then they have no appreciation of the two most important qualities required of such an office; intestinal fortitude and magnanimity.

    • Henry Blofeld says:

I love your loyalty Carl so refreshing these days where one day one is a Rooster and next day a Feather Duster. Cheers

    • Bella says:

Carl, Tony Abbott was pathetic as a PM with or without factoring in the onion, Prince Philip or the shirtfronting debarcle.
His whiteanting’s gone on so long now it’s way past time he left the stage & buried his hatchet, preferably & clearly away from Parliament.
The chances of Tony ever leading the country again are slim to zero so this raging vendetta he’s engaged in is just sad & embarrassing now.

      • Razor says:

        Just like Rudd Bella?

        • Bella says:

Not nearly so much as Tony Razor, and besides, Rudd quite easily landed another job in the real world which says a hell of a lot about his intellectual ability & a real desire to move on.
Abbott should follow suit. Like yesterday.

    • The Outsider says:

CoTC, I agree that a “sizeable cohort of the electorate” have their priorities skewiff re Tony Abbott.

The real reason for which he should have lost his job was breaking a slew of election promises, even though the Coalition had access to PEFO.

Knights and Dames etc were just symptomatic of his tin ear.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Ergo Basil Marceaux should be the President of the United States.

Agree 100% Razor and do remember a few years back some “expert” telling us that 5G Wireless Speeds were impossible. The maximum download speed of 5G networks could be more than 1Gbps (one gigabit per second). But in practice, it will likely provide download speeds around 100Mbps or higher. What next! Cheers

      • Dismayed says:

Only with Fibre connects for backhaul. without Fibre 5G will not work, The Original NBN with Fibre was required for the future technologies like 5G, 6G so again you guys continue to exhibit blindness purely on political grounds. Very poor efforts.

    • Dismayed says:

From the your link. “A big, 360 degree camera sits on the bottom of the pool and is connected by a cable to the outside world. A fibre connection then sends it to Broadbeach where it is converted into a 5G signal and then transmitted into the dome.” Fibre fibre fibre. Fibre is Required for 5G Backhaul. Without Fibre 5G does not work. 5G will not compete with Fibre networks. they are used for different services. Even a rock farmer knows that most basic fact. you however? are unable or unwilling to accept facts.

      • JackSprat says:

Can you please stop confusing backbone infrastructure with consumer delivery.

Backbone infrastructure has been fibre for years if not decades

        • Dismayed says:

JS your confusion needs to be directed to your cons mates you and them are the ones whom are confused. You cannot have the “consumer” delivery of the new Gen. stuff without the “backbone” of the Fibre. 5G require fibre. those making statements that the NBN is superseded etc etc are talking ignorant rubbish so take your confusion to your mates. I have ben trying for years to help you understand the reason for Fibre. By the way you and your mates carry on you would be building a house from the roof down. Seriously man open your eye.

      • Razor says:

        Dismayed,
I would again ask that you refrain from commenting on my posts. You proved on your return you still cannot maintain any form of civility.

        • Dismayed says:

When you are running JTI’s blog I might take notice of you. but don’t hold your breath. As long as you continue to post misleading and blatantly false information, if the big Man allows, I will comment. If you want to remain in the echo chamber stay on the other side in the comments section of the Australian.

    • BASSMAN says:

If I had a mobile account for what I download it would cost me several thousand dollars a month!
Tell me the cheapest UNLIMITED mobile deal download a month and speed!
5G for emails OK…large files wld break the bank and be SLOW-the more people on a 5G networlk the slower it gets.

    • JackSprat says:

We apparently will get fibre to the curb.
This will present a problem in as much the Telstra wiring has not been used in 20+ years and there are many outlets in the house. ( We have had Optus cable)
Methinks it might cost a $ or 3 to get connected.

      • Dismayed says:

JS You only need 1 “outlet” in the home you then use a wireless router within the home. Why do think the cost of the MT mixed technology version of the Not Broadband Network has exploded? Because the Copper that Telstra said 20 years ago was in critical and in need of repair when it was privatised still needs replacing, to date over 60% of the copper has had to be replaced. Do it once, Do it right, Do it with Fibre so that for the next 100 years newer technologies could have been supported by the fibre. We see ignorant comments above about 5G, without Fibre to the transmission point 5G will not work.

    • Dwight says:

Already on 4GS. The NBN is a dinosaur.

      • Razor says:

Yep sure is Dwight. That great nation building project is about to be superseded. I don’t often give Turnbull any kudos but he did well truncating the thing and saving some dollars when he could.

    • smoke says:

unfortunately 5g will be supplied by the same isp’s that have gouged us on the nbn plans

      sad

  • Not Finished Yet says:

JTI – I made a strategic error in replying to Bassman – I had a recent reset of my computer and lost settings and accidentally used my own name. If it’s too late to fix, so be it.

    Cheers

  • Jean Baptiste says:

It’s all theatre. Turnbull will win the next election.
Turnbull will be rehabilitated and Shorten or an alternative will be hammered down so far by the press and the shock jocks in the lead up to the next election he or she will have to pull down their socks to have a dump. Turnbull is kissing the only bums that matter. The fruit flies will be stampeded over a cliff if that is what it takes.

Sermon for the day, Smarter than God, Albert Einstein………….

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them and do nothing.”

    • Henry Blofeld says:

Bless you dear Mr Baptiste, you may indeed be proved right however I think not. When you trumpet a $60 Billion Company Tax cut while so many out in Voterland are struggling I feel you are done like a ducks dinner. Cheers

    • Simon says:

“The world will be destroyed by those telling others what to do” – me
Simon says, “Don’t be so suggestible” – me

    • Dwight says:

Please. If you can point out a single issue where Turnbull and the ALP are on opposite sides, I’ll argue the point.

  • Dismayed says:

Adelaide expecting 35 degrees next week in mid April. Second hottest summer on record just finished, most of Australia already at 1.5+ degrees above long term averages. apparently the worldwide conspiracy is causing this.

  • Dismayed says:

hillsong morrison tried to do the right thing yesterday and admitted coal power makes things more expensive. He still mislead the nation on actual costs. the figures he used are wrong. He had the AER produce a report that had findings that were opposite of the data within the report. The reports data shows that NSW Black coal fired plants set prices in Victoria and have done so for years. Strangely the price of coal fired power DOUBLED in the last 12 months at all times, off peak and peak. the average price being $70 per mw/hr. and $80 mw/hr in winter. The AER found the price of black coal fired power has NOT been below $50 mw/hr for over 3 years. Also the Federal Government owned Hydro power prices has doubled in the last 12 months. Now we see the government trying to heavy a private company into selling its assets or refurbishing them which will again cause price to rise. Worst government in Nations history.
