What did you do in the Macklemore War, Dad?

In years to come our children might ask, “What did you do in the Macklemore War, Dad?” My response will be, “Like a lot of people, I fought and died just a little bit inside.”

The noise around the same sex marriage voluntary postal survey has turned this country into a dismal, joyless place, where proponents and opponents quibble over meaningless symbolism like seagulls over a chip.

I confess I didn’t have the slightest idea who Macklemore was until earlier this week. I would be perfectly happy to bathe in that ignorance today. I might even have watched him perform in the NRL Grand Final pre-match, wondered out loud who he was before going to the fridge and grabbing another beer before the kick off.

By the time the match ended and the premiership trophy was held aloft by the victorious captain, Macklemore’s performance would have been a distant memory, rather like my knowledge of the 2004 coup d’etat in Equatorial Guinea in that it was a long time ago and didn’t really make a whole lot of difference to my life.

Great Grand Final. Tigers pressure was enormous, particularly their defense. And Boa wins the tipping comp. A well deserved win, Tigers and Boa both. Thanks to Gryzly for organising the tipping. I’ll definately be in again next year. Now to drink heartily, scoff down some BBQed steak and get ready to do it all again tomorrow!

3/4T. Tiges up by 6 goals. I don’t think the Crows can get back from there. Tigers win for mine. Tiges have played a great game.

    • Jack The Insider says:

No, the Crows were blown away in the second half. Congratulations to Richmond FC. A lot of sore heads east of Punt Road today.

      • Dismayed says:

I only saw the last half but the Tigers looked like they were more desperate from the first bounce of the second half and the crows overrated captain did very little as usual. How does Mckay keep getting a game for the crows? The crows were shown up for their lack of grunt around the contest when they get Gibbs next year? and Curtly Hampton comes back they may be able to go with the top teams at the contest. I would like to add before the Sydney game towards the end of the season I predicted the crows would not go top. Just saying. Bring on the cricket. C’mon Aussies. I want to see Starc, Hazelwood Cummins and Pattinson all firing in the same team. But still lots of issues the batting line up.

Long posts blocked now Jack? How long?

Just another reminder at just how lucky this country has been to have had members from the Labor party in Senior roles. “Incredulous at the glacial pace of change, even fewer would know that way back in 1967, it was Hayden, now 84 and infirm, who was pushing forward, largely by himself within federal Labor, to repeal dehumanising laws which rendered homosexual love illegal”
” 1971 at his party’s state conference in Surfers Paradise, Hayden challenged these shibboleths by proposing the decriminalisation of homosexuality, ”

All that vision and talk and many years later and labor knocks on the head a plebiscite on ssm; paving the way for this paper chase.
For mine there are people on either side whose spiel/gig etc would encourage me to vote agin them, just to piss them off. It is maturity like mine that underpins our lucky country

      • Dismayed says:

Milton seriously wake up. the only thing stopping ALL people from being able to marry is regressive cons in your coalition who want to retain the disgraceful right to discriminate. A vote could have been held in parliament ANYITME just as little Johnny did to change it not so long ago. Religious fantasists should NOT have any right to discriminate. If you want to fantasise about all powerful beings do it in your own home. When you walk out the door leave it there. You prove you do not have emotional “maturity” as you claim because you need an imaginary Deity to give you “guidance” and show you how to live. that is the essence of lacking in emotional maturity/intelligence.

        • Milton says:

My my you sound all wound up again today, Unmade.
For what it’s worth, regardless that I am progressive conservative (!) and catholic, I voted yes. I figured it would be hypocritical of me to vote no on religious grounds as I do not strictly adhere, or agree, to all of the Churches guidelines.
On discrimination you speak a lot of rot, though your rot is accommodating to most subjects. With such a narrow mind it is no wonder you are considered a pinhead.
Did you read Hendo’s article? Whilst of the view that we should have ssm I am also of the view that we should protect individuals freedoms in religious and cultural matters.
Under the banner of equality or equal rights it is people like you who want to enshrine in law what people can and cannot do, or believe in. You are in equal measure laughable and sad.

          • Dismayed says:

Ah another personal attack and if I dare respond in kind somehow you will be the victim. I guess you are now third on the list of claiming victim status after having ago. Yvonne, razor and you. Oh dear not a very illustrious group. NO surprises. Highlight to me where I have stated I want to enshrine anything into law except for taking away the right to discriminate? you are trippin or lying as usual . What an oxymoron you are a “progressive Con”? HAHAHAHA. that is as ridiculous as a “clever con” There is NO such thing. HAHHA. Get off the gear while you have some grey matter left.

          • Milton says:

Dismayed – yawn. Are your replies on a loop? And surely being able to discriminate due to one’s religion, culture or beliefs is a basic right. Sports discriminates all the time. Next you will be saying we shouldn’t have boys or girls schools. And you would also be naturally against positive discrimination. Have a lay down and try and think things through. I’ve said yes to ssm but believe religions have a right to not agree with them.

        • Boadicea says:

Calling out others for their hating etc using your vitriol puts you in the same camp. Do you even realise that?

      • Boadicea says:

No sense of humour at all Milton!!

    • Razor says:

That would be the Labor party that designed the white Australia policy. The same one who never had an Aboriginal representative unlike the Libs who decades ago had the late Neville Bonner. That would be the Labor party who supported those unionists who wouldn’t load supply ships during WW2. That would be the same party who holds the late Lionel Murphy as one of their greats. Yep this country was bloody lucky alright.

  • Dismayed says:

All the cons continue to do in this survey on equality is prove they only have their own regressive selfish self interest at heart and Not the National interest. Pissing moaning lying divisive sooks.

    • Boadicea says:

      Here we go again…..

    • Razor says:

I actually don’t think a persons belief on SMS has as much to do with the left right paradigm as you make out. There would be some Roman Catholic working class life long Labor voters who will be voting no. I think it’s more about religion and in some cases the social values of some people than your obsession with progressives and conservatives. Mind you I do understand reasoned argument of this nature just invites vitriol from you little man.

Sorry OT, but just a thank you to those that said ‘welcome back’, I didnt reply to everyone, and I feel rude.

    Go Cows!

  • John O'Hagan says:

Agree with every word JTI. Unfortunately, some of the comments over the wall demonstrate your point perfectly.

  • wraith says:

Oh dear, it gets worse. Now potato head dutts wants an ‘equal song’ one not supporting equal love. I wonder how that would go?
    No more bum sex,
    not for me,
    bum sex just brings misery,
if I hang from the highest tree,
no more bum sex for me!!!!!!
    .
    or summit like that.

  • wraith says:

Seven more weeks? Even though Tony Abbott is evil, its Malcolm that should have copped the Glasgow kiss. And then some. So this is the adults in charge. They couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery and none of them had the balls to stand up and say “lets just vote on it”.
    .
You know, do the job and reverse that pin head desiccated coconut’s stuff up. I hate watching the haters stand in judgement, I being made to judge my fellow human beings this way.
    .
What next? A vote to see if blacks should have the vote? Have we progressed. Not in the Liberal/National world.
    Go Coal!
