It’s official. The Liberal Party is a shambles, a great hulking wreck smashed on the rocks of factionalism and personality conflicts so vicious and ugly they can only be resolved by pistols at dawn at twenty paces.
Turnbull et al are applying thick coats of paste and unrolling the flock wallpaper madly trying to cover over the yawning chasms that now appear in the Liberal Party’s broad church. One false move and the whole edifice will come crashing down.
Rather than dwell on the controversies du jour, be they same sex marriage, the Finkel Report or whatever ghastly turn of events arises to once again divide the Liberal Party on ideological grounds, it would serve our understanding better to go back to the genesis of this conflict and bask in the idiocy of its creators, the political geniuses who rolled a first term prime minister but failed to contemplate what was to be done with him once he had been vanquished.

Now the Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe has come out today to urge workers to demand wage justice from their employers, citing a “crisis of low pay”. Will wonders never cease?
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-29/rba-governor-philip-lowe-goes-marxist/8662228
Bella,
I’m not sure you understand what he is saying here. Why would resource rich nation like Australia be feeling this?
Spotto Bella. Theres irony in the title of the piece though, intended possibly, the Australian people have been browbeaten into believing anything to the left of Genghis Khan is Marxist. Asking for a fairer share for their labours is hardly advocating the overthrow of capitalism.
Give ’em heaps.
and this crisis only became manifest this year so I thank Mr Lowe for his prompt attention…..
I tried asking my boss to do her bit for the economy by giving me a raise, but she just laughed. Perhaps Mr Lowe could help out by giving us back our union movement, please?
I can only suggest she may have wanted you to give her a ‘raise’ first JOH.
Been a great week for sport, was that the first ever religious defence offered at the Tribunal, or was there some variation of the old Quaker joke in the past.
the one that goes, burglar on quaker property, homeowner says, sir i would do thee no harm but thee standeth where i am about to shoot.
meanwhile John Mac creates a firestorm in the US by stating the bleeding obvious.
and it’s thirty years this week since the demise of hedgehog, the late Billie Snedden, and one of the great headlines. “Snedden died ‘on the job’. ”
I think it was an early Tim Blair effort, he was editor of the Truth about then, but perhaps not.
Bit early for Tim, mate but a fine headline all the same.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-29/cardinal-george-pell-charged-sexual-assault-offences/8547668.
Cardinal George Pell has been charged with historical child sexual assault offences. I don’t think I can say any more than this.
No and thank you for your caution. George Pell is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence. Any comment here beyond that will be deleted.
I’d love to see the brief! Tell you after 30 seconds of reading it if there is anything in it.
I really get fed up when pundits criticise jurors or defence counsel get trials aborted because of some comment in the press. The assumption that each of series of offences must be tried separately because other offences might “prejudice a jury) is equally condescending.
I would say that in 99% of cases jurors act exactly in terms of their oath and bring in a true verdict. I was a Court Officer for 13 years and I recall a particular case of a charge of theft as a servant. The case against the accused was weak and he conducted his own defence well, pointing out that he could not be identified at the scene of the crime. He convinced me and he convinced the trial judge, who pointed out to the jury how weak the case was. He did not convince the jury, who found him guilty. The irony of the situation was that while waiting for the verdict he confessed to the screws in the holding cells!
I recall also another weak case where the jury acquitted a car thief. The defence succeed in having a key piece of evidence, an offer (made under caution) to do a deal on the grounds that it was “prejudicial”. The crown prosecutor (later sacked for incompetence) did not object and the judge was obliged to exclude it. I well recall his astonishment at the prosecutors attitude.
So when you criticise jurors do not forget that they may have been denied key evidence, and very few seek to thwart the cause of justice.
I would reduce your 99% significantly UQ. In many regional and ural areas it’s often about who you are not what you did.
Notice that in The Times the article isn’t inviting any comments.
I would expect the same just about everywhere. Very dangerous otherwise.
Watching Fox last night Paul Murray and Peta Credlin going off. Credlin talking over everybody even after being proven to be wrong on a number of her comments. It is clear to see people like Credlin are angry nasty divisive people. They want a divided nation so they can run their ideological agenda. It is people like the above that need to take responsibility for a number of people lurching into parties like phony and beastialities cons. They push for a divided society they stoke fear and bigotry then want to blame moderates and these imaginary creatures they construct the gay left wing, Marxist, Muslim inner city hipster barista that is apparently responsible for the ills of the world. Time for the cons to wake up and realise they are the destructive force to themselves and society.
That was a big mouthful pet. Thank god the Greens will never come to power sweetie then we would all be in a right mess sugar.
Talking of a ‘destructive force’ it turns out what Paul Keating said about Abbott in 2011 was right on the mark.
“You know what Tony Abbott’s policy is, ‘If you don’t give me the job, I’ll wreck the place’. Tony has to have a political judo chop.”
Prophetic or what?
Regards, Bella
Bella,
Do you know a bloke called Kevin Rudd? Give you a hint. Greatest moral challenge of our time……….
Talking of destructive forces, it appears what Paul Keating said in 2011 about Tony Abbott was right on the mark.
“You know what Tony Abbott’s policy is, ‘If you don’t give me the job, I’ll wreck the place’. Tony has to have a political judo chop.”
Prophetic or what?

Thank god you’re not an angry nasty divisive prick running your own ideological agenda!
Imagine this you could also be a hypocritical prick;
Fossil Fuels……
Private Health……
Private Education……
razor. Pathetic as usual from you. You really are showing your true Socialist nature. Are you saying that paying ones own way and wanting to ensure ones children have opportunities not available to ones self years ago is somehow a bad thing??
Gas will be the transition fuel, this position has been held by me me for over a decade. Government continuing to fund coal mines and coal power generation is right out of your socialist playbook. Should we discuss the other $7 or 8 billion in Slush funds set for your national socialists to play with since 2014??? Even if your Carmichael scam did take place (highly doubt it) I see Farmers are against it also. Even if double the official Adani numbers of 1550 jobs were created it would be over $300,000 per job??? It does NOT stack up. HAHAHAHAHA you are delusional.
OT: The smell reaches Pell
I don’t like Pell, being a Tyke myself, but with so much bullshit around these days by young girls complaining they have been felt up I am reserving my judgement until I see some evidence that will nail the bloke.
Twice in 24hrs Bassy I agree with you. Let the courts play the whole thing out. Nothing stranger than people……..
Except Queenslanders.
Oh this is for razor who wants his own interpretation on everything. Liberals are not Libertarians.
“Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.[1][2][3] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas and programmes such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, secular governments, gender equality, and international cooperation”
what, are you shilling for the Libs now?
Isn’t that what I said……….
Add to my 10.37
Dismayed
No you posted “Libertarians” not Liberals. Big difference. You as usual are wrong have been shown to be wrong and as usual now want to change your story. No Surprises.
Liberals are libertarians
Milton from the last one. There may not be a real Ashes this year. CA taking over 50% of revenue for “Admin and Management” with Directors on $4million year don’t want the people who make the game, looking after the grass roots and lower levels. Then players are paid a lot but they appear to be standing up for the lower levels. CA have not handled it well and it does not auger well for the season.
The whole of CA should be shown the door – a totally bloated and out of touch organisation.
Sort of like my sons soccer. He is 5yrs. Cost $350 to sign him up…10 games…he has only kicked the ball about 12 times…$35bux a game plus heaps of travel/training, games makes it expensive. I don’t see much of my $350 spent on the littlun’s in fact I am sure most of it gets siphoned off to the seniors. Would love to see a spreadsheet but i would be howled down.
Bassy,
We complain about kids not playing sport! The price of organised sport when my boys were playing was ridiculous! It looks like its even worse now! Those figures you quote make me sick. Even counting insurance it doesn’t cost that much to give a couple of little people a kick of a footy! Get howled down old mate, bloody ask for the spreadsheet. Someone is having a lend of you and the rest of the parents.
My older son played for the same team 20yrs ago…$12
Back in 1999/2000 I think it was I was flying home from PNG The great man Mr Johnny Warren sat next to me on both flights all the way to Sydney. We drank and drank and laughed and he told me how the Socceroos came about I said he should write a book, I recalled how in the early 70’s in Sydney we were called Wogs, Poofs and Deigo’s etc playing soccer (even though we played rugby also) not knowing he was sick he said he does not have the time. He did manage to knock one out before he sadly passed. I still have his card with his real phone number on the back of it. Interestingly his book had a very similar title. But I digress, I recall Mr Warren ripping into the soccer clubs head honchos sitting with us in Business while the players were all back in economy. He was giving them a spray about the way they use the meagre funds the game was making. He also spoke about how he was often asked to appear on/in media shows and talk about all manner of issues. He said he knew about soccer and the rest were his personal views and we both lamented the former sporting and media “personalities” commenting on all manner of topics without availing themselves with basic facts. He was a cool Man. I still remember the couple of hours and the growth from the experience of sharing that time with the great Mr Warren.
I doubt Johnny was the better for the experience……..
Just proves the great Mr Warren was a better judge of character than you.
You’ve still got Johnny’s card with his real number on the back eh?
God that’s funny. Why don’t you give him a call, I’m sure he’ll take it, as after all you could do with some divine guidance in life right now.
I’m thinking sanity will prevail.
I’ve never been a strike breaker but just to let CA know, if things don’t go well I’ve got a pretty fair slow medium legcutter and middle order batsman willing to serve my country.
A grand a day and expenses will cover it.
Hear Hear JB. I will be happy take the Captaincy open the batting and bowling and bring you on 1st change.
Well, it will be interesting to see how they will prise Pell out of his bolt hole.
Not yet Boa……..just see how it pans out.
