Humble servant of the Nation

Mother and child disunion

Here I was all set to knock out a Christmas column full of cheer and bonhomie but life, or more accurately, Daily Life has intervened.

I normally disapprove of intra-media byplays but Fairfax Media’s Daily Life section has become so full of cranky third wave feminism that someone needs to hold it up to the light. Among this waste of ink and kilobyte street corner psychobabble, comes a contribution from self described feminist Polly Dunning who tells her harrowing tale of giving birth to a shame boy. The good news is she’s slowly getting over it.

I’m not allowed to swear anymore, at least not at volume but this is sorely testing my already fragile grip on self-control.

At first blanch this was merely another addition from women who have recently given birth and have come to believe that having done so, they have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But on further reading this is a tale of a woman not just at war with men but also her own male child.

Full column here.

    Milton 3:08PM 3rd.

With your brand of sophistry you should have been a twitting Jesuit priest.
Refer to my reply to Carl at 8:38 AM.
The difference is between scamming frauds inventing preposterous deities and working with elites to trick ordinary people to part with their money, inculcating innocent children into a life of fear, as against real scientists using facts to inform people of the real dangers they face.
The former are only interested in themselves, and the latter care for humanity.
They did a good job on you. You need to get out more Milton.

Huh? Science not allowed into Rodent’s world? There’s nothing on you tube or in literature that could possibly bail you out. That’s why you don’t back up your rantings with links.
You propose a truce? What! With me? You really are unhinged.

Seems like someone needs to wind that key up behind your back and enter in a predominated force of influence and master the battlefield all over again chief!
I think I might wind down on all this stuff while trying to return into my studio of music after the Bassman set me some gruelling homework to contend with .
BTW Lets retire from all this after we covered some mileage before we burn our Jack out trying to sort out our material .
Bella ,..Lets smoke the peace pipe and sit on the fence giving your sensetivity and a platform of resistence a rest leaving the pollies in the sheltered workshop of smouldering carcasses in parliament house try and right the ship for 2017 if those still on their feet , can perform.

    • Bella says:

Depends what’s in that peace pipe Rodent…..but I’ve got to say your description of “pollies in the sheltered workshop of smouldering carcasses” is pretty accurate. Trouble is the Fibs performance relies solely on misinformation & lies so 2017 will just be same same.
      Regards, Bella

No surprise just another reason the banking cartel of Turnbull, KOD and the banks don’t want a royal commission into their shady dealings. Oh and I see Dictator trump is no longer a capitalist telling companies where to produce or they will be hit with higher taxes and we see this reported positively by the sheep in the media?
    http://thenewdaily.com.au/money/finance-news/2017/01/03/how-banks-create-money/?utm_source=Responsys&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20170104_TND

    • darren says:

Dismayed, the banks dont engage in shady dealings. Having worked for all but one of the majors and been employed by one of them (as the head of legal/wealth management) I can tell you exactly what they do wrong. There is nothing particularly secret about it. Ive also worked for one of the big four international corporate advisory firms and I can tell you that these firms make a lot of money overseeing enforceable undertakings imposed by ASIC and apra. Again, the regulators know exactly what the problems are. The list of openly known scandals (a number of which asic dedicated web pages to) are also a matter of public record.

In short, there’s absolutely no need for a public inquiry into the banks because everything they do wrong -from product pushing, breaches on their trading desks, financing shonky investment salesman, commission sales, shonky advice, and conflicts of interest issues, is well known to the people who generally have to fix the problems – lawyers, finance advisories, assurance professionals and accountants.

The real focus needs to be on law reform. The licensing system is a joke. Touted as a cure all when it came in it quickly became the tick a box exercise everyone in the industry knew it was. The conflicts rules went the same way. Advisers education standards and ethics are woeful and the conflicts problems involved in making financial products AND selling them have been obvious from the start.

An inquiry would be cover to do nothing for a few more years. That is not acceptable. The real problem is this politicians won’t do anything now despite the overwhelming evidence of problems and the fact that the regulators -asic in particular – are out of control, poorly staffed (and paid: i have rejected 3 offers from them on pay grounds. Why would I want to halve my salary?) and their focus is on all the wrong things. On top of that the laws are also badly written and often difficult to enforce. That last bit – and the waste of time that is the current licensing system – are the real problems.

      • Robin says:

You have stated the problem to a T darren.
Bad politicians making bad laws where business has to make bad decisions to remain solvent

        • darren says:

Robin, no, the laws are bad but the banks and all the financial companies involved voluntarily break them and engage in nefarious behaviour. I don’t excuse the politicians or the Business people involved in all this appalling conduct.

      • Lou oTOD says:

Gee that’s ingeresting Darren, as are your previous comments on your involvement in CFD’s, the birth of Superannuation et al.

As someone who spent 33 years in the Financial Industry, and 10 as a CEO, I find it fascinating that you worked as head of legal/wealth management. I dealt with all major banks, 75% of regional banks, Building Societies and Credit Unions, and I don’t know of one which had these roles combined. Which one were you at, and a national role was it?

Financial institutions in Australia have the strictest level of supervision of any country in the world, which of course you know well. There are always issues at the margin, and bad eggs in any organisation, but you would know that too. If you were involved in some of the shady deals of which you often speak, why not give yourself up?

I just watched a show called the great wine fraud, about Rudi Kurniwan aka Dr Conti. I sincerely recommend it to you.

        • darren says:

Lou, then you clearly didn’t know the legal teams at all the banks. You probably didn’t know me when I worked for cuscal either. You’d have to have known Brian Lacey to know me while I was contracted to them.

You also appear unaware that when the banks started purchasing financial services providers they started hiring specialist wealth management lawyer. Think st George and Asgard (now with westpac) and mlc master key – now owned by nab. Both the master key business and Asgard came out of Perth and I did the guts of their work in the early days and continued to advise them later. You also appeR unaware of all the custodian companies owned by the banks – not Suprising: these are specialist areas and if you’re not in them then you won’t understand them.

Also – just to be very very clear with you about this – I have never been involved in shady deals. I have spent more time than most other people repeating the consequences of bodgy operators. And I reject your “bad apples” argument. The problems are systemic and widespread and come from the way the system has been set up. It encourages bad behaviour and does not punish or even prevent such behaviour. If you have the experience you claim you wouldn’t be blithely brushing over ethical and legal failures that have resulted in tens of billlions of dollars of losses suffered by unsuspecting ‘ordinary’ investors.

This fued has been simmerkng for some time now as Albo in his seat of Marrickville has been challenged by the yuppie partnership Greenies.
