Mother and child disunion

Here I was all set to knock out a Christmas column full of cheer and bonhomie but life, or more accurately, Daily Life has intervened.

I normally disapprove of intra-media byplays but Fairfax Media’s Daily Life section has become so full of cranky third wave feminism that someone needs to hold it up to the light. Among this waste of ink and kilobyte street corner psychobabble, comes a contribution from self described feminist Polly Dunning who tells her harrowing tale of giving birth to a shame boy. The good news is she’s slowly getting over it.

I’m not allowed to swear anymore, at least not at volume but this is sorely testing my already fragile grip on self-control.

At first blanch this was merely another addition from women who have recently given birth and have come to believe that having done so, they have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But on further reading this is a tale of a woman not just at war with men but also her own male child.

Full column here.

    B’Man et al,

Further to my previous. Reflecting upon the by now utterly predictable degeneration of almost any Blog subject into a diatribe of the deaf re ‘Global Warming’ etc. You might care to contemplate the following Risk Management exercise.
For the purposes of the argument let us accept that Global Warming is an accepted fact and that its consequences are potentially catastrophic for the beloved ‘grandchildren’.
Then as an Australian politician it is self-evident that Australia should do everything it can to avoid this outcome. But ….
If Australia’s domestic contribution to Global Warming were reduced to zero the influence would be infinitesimal and would be reversed by a miniscual increase in the wider global community. But …….
Australia as a very significant miner of coal contributes to global warming through the export of coal to be burnt by others. Thus if the consequences for the ‘beloved’ are so dire, all coal mining and export should be ceased forthwith. But ……..
Any reduction in Australia’s coal exports would be substituted by exports from other Nations hence the nett impact would be zero. But ……

Your joint energies might well be better devoted to conducting a Risk Management exercise on that scenario.
You might then arrive at the conclusion reached by most, if not all of the Australian political establishment (the Verdants being the obvious exception) – any Australian response to Global Warming is pure gesture, constrained by the application of the minimum resources sufficient to ameliorate the ‘medium level’ public perception!!

Most of the scientists I have discussed this with are of the opinion that it’s probably too late to save the planet – unless the planet switches to nuclear. As you say, can’t see that happening.
So the beloved are doomed if what the scientists think comes to pass.

So just shut up about it eh?
A determined diplomatic effort might well inspire other nations, on the other hand if we, a nation that can better afford than most to make changes and a great beneficiary of fossil fuel usage, is seen to do nothing, what sort of message is that?
Hey, I’m an old guy! Not my problem?

    Bella 0928am.
Thanks on concern , but 3 weeks back over 600 have already arrived most already processed Bella thank you! They are slow and careful in proper processing , not like Labor sending the gates open on processing with dangerous processing with Asio sending 75 boat people back from the ME in that surge 51,050 ,back 2013 figures not sure how many after that human exercise of trafficking leaving the smuggling trade rich
    Cheers Bella.

    • BASSMAN says:

Every attempt by Labor to stop the flow of boats was blocked by the Liberals who saw, and will always see votes in people’s misery. Several times they were caught out saying the moré boats that arrive ‘the better for us’. Abbott blocked the Malaysian deal and now what is Dutts doing? Breaking his arse trying to get them to take refugees when Hockey cried tears in parliament saying no child would ever be sent there whilst he had his nose in the trough.
      &
Six hundred more asylum seekers died attempting to come to Australia after the Malaysian Solution was sunk by Abbott. That was the human cost. But the blame for it is thrown endlessly at the Gillard government by the very people who did everything to thwart its attempt at some sort of humane solution. If the refugees were white say from South Africa, Abbott and his conspirators would welcome them with
open arms. The present policy is racist.
      &
The budget is stuffed yet we are spending $500,000 per refugee to prove a political point. $55million has been wasted housing 2 asylum seekers in Cambodia. Budget emergency? Dutts should be sacked for this waste of money.
Boats have not been arriving because they have been turned back, not because we have locked up
children in remote and cruel prison conditions. There is not one shred of evidence that proves imprisoning children deters boats.
      &
Only 1% of Rodent’s so called ‘illegals’arrive by boat. Those who overstay their visas arrive by plane in their thousands and any who seek asylum are allowed to from within Australia. Never a word about them. Why? No votes in it. The Liberals’ alignment of boat people with ‘border protection’ and ‘national security’ is a fear campaign that has worked successfully. It is a cunning move. We have not lost control of our borders-never have! It’s a con job for votes. How do we know this? The Looters were completely opposed to allowing boats to arrive here well before there was any kind of concern about deaths at sea. All that did was sanctify their previous attitude. They are lying. They have always lied. Look at the secrecy surrounding the island prisons. The slow death, rotting on Nauru and Manus is much worse because the Liberals have killed their hope.

Dismayed – ok since your are being somewhat coy and not stating your height I will adhere to my original thought of you being a dwarf, or a pygmy. I must have just made up, or imagined, that whole bit about you being over 6 foot. it’s not hard to look up to people on a soapbox, but it’s a slightly different matter now that we have freed them from the corner of parks.

Jean Baptiste – you are not only a man with great faith, but more, a true believer, an evangelist, a person who quotes from and promulgates the scriptures handed down from on high. Moreover, you are quick to name and shame the heretics who dare not accept the ‘truth’; the deplorable, the cretins, the killers of not yet born babies. I love a zealot, Jean (and who doesn’t) and you certainly have put the zzzzz’s back into zealot.

    B’Man,

Sorry to provoke another SIGH!!! But ………

Re Ho Ho Joe and his ‘Inter-generational Debt Story’ – here is what can happen if he is correct and you are wrong (God Forbid)!!!
    http://www.greekcrisis.net/

Re Oceans Boiling. Well no – as I understand it it is ‘mean ocean temperatures rising’ – based on some selected measurements and then computer modelling projections.

Re Seas Rising. Ditto Oceans Boiling.

Re Stopping Boats full of ‘Refugees from Rising Seas’. Well No – the boats are actually full of those paying between $US10k and US$5K to international criminal organisations, from primarily land-locked countries of war and despotism.

Re ‘Muslims, Diseases and Terrorists’ – Again No. The primary issues were, are and will remain ones of ‘identity’, ‘quarantine’ and ‘unauthorised arrival’.

I think our Host mentioned a few posts ago about ‘Risk Management’ and indeed such is an essential part of any policy development and application in each and all of the areas core to your views.

The reality is that such risk management involves the PIP3 matrix:

    Probability
    Impact
    Perception – Public, Expert, Political

Those tasked with conducting such an analysis while using High / Medium / Low for each, spend a considerable amount of time quantifying and identifying the specific risk and its consequences.

They then spend an equal amount of time briefing and educating those who will be held responsible and accountable for the consequences – be they Politicians, Departmental Secretaries or Chiefs of Defence.

Trust me, the precautionary principle often trumps the matrix – who wants to be the one who got it so very wrong with a medium risk, extreme impact, extreme public perception, low expert perception and catastrophic political perception!!

Thankfully neither you nor I are the decision makers!!

    Dismayed (3/1, 10.05am)

I saw your note to Milton and was wondering if you’ve got your nose out of joint specifically in relation to Christianity? Or do you have a beef with the whole box and dice of the 10,000 worldwide religious practices and faiths embracing over 84% of the world’s population.

Haven’t seen you having a crack at Muhammad and his followers yet.

    Cat got your tongue mate?

    • wraith says:

I have a beef with the worldwide religious practices if you want to have a shot.

    • Dismayed says:

Don’t defame me Carl. You have some sort of issue. Read exactly what I wrote. “Man created Religion to control other men(& woman)”. Why do you want to make it some islamaphobia issue? Have you seen any Muslims on this blog? My memory is better than yours and do NOT recall seeing any.You have previously told me to just “conform”. Those of weak will conform rather than question and improve. Faith and religion are 2 Very different concepts. It is only those who have given up thinking for themselves and taking responsibility for their own actions that mix the 2 up. You like the other cons here are always looking for enemies where none exist. Group think fantasy is the enemy not thinking, questioning people.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

There’s your problem right there! 84% percent of the humankind robbed from birth of free thinking and inculcated with primitive belief and fear of imaginary super beings invented by the most devious tricksters for their own purposes.
Thousands of years of working hand in hand with the most powerful elites, parasites sucking the rewards of useful labour and violence sanctioned by imaginary deities to enrich and glorify themselves. All the while eliminating the free thinker from the gene pool and inciting ostracism at least against anyone perceived as a threat to their power.
You can bet on one thing Carl, the superrich are not stupid, they are better advised than the peasants they go to great lengths to make sure of it, and their thoughts are for themselves and the hired thugs who protect them not the proles who cant see it coming for want of warning.

If you consider this reply out of context or inappropriate, you must turn the other cheek, forgive me or light a bloody candle for me or something. I’m not your spiritual guide but it occurs to me that sometimes you and holy Milton are a little less nice than you ought to be. C’mon guys, you don’t want to disappoint Jesus now do you?

Seriously, tell me this, is there anything more weird and confronting than a pipe band playing “Amazing Grace” ?
“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!” Some oogie boogie has sense of humour! On bagpipes! Satan’s instrument of everlasting torment!

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjG7kaNbM0Y

Theres your embedded Satanic ritual right there!
Nostradamus had quite a bit to say about man/beasts with the heads of bison wearing skirts and squeezing cats.

Best wishes. Your old mate JB

Come on Rodent PLEASE read something else.
It’s disturbing to read that you actually aren’t aware that of the “12000 refugees Dutton has taken in” the FACT IS only 29 (yes that’s twenty-nine) have been processed. FACT IS Dutton is a racist dud.
Take a breath, put down the Oz & wake-up mate.
    Regards, Bella

    • BASSMAN says:

Its not the Oz…its The Daily Telegraph and 2GB

    • Lou oTOD says:

Oh Bella, if you are going to shout make sure you know the tune.

Fact is 2000 of the 12000 promised from Syria had arrived by last December, over 500 in NSW. This was part of 14000 humanitarian refugees taken in by Australia for the year, still one of the highest intakes proportionate to host country population in the world. And that comes from a source you’d probably accept, The Guardian.

Sure it has been slower than many would have hoped, but validation of people from this conflict area is a most complex task. Evidence of those with terrorist sympathies sneaking into countries offering refugee intake suggests caution is well justified.

Apologies to all for slow posting. I just switched on to the NBN and of course now I have no fixed broadband at all.

        • BASSMAN says:

You mean Fraudband. I am shaking. The NBN will be on my doorstep in February and from those that I know who have it it is SLOWER!!

          • darren says:

Thats not true, bassman but it depends on what package you get. Obviously the faster you buy the faster your internet speed. You need about 8mbps to stream high definition video over the internet. My advice is get yourself an apply tv box (because that allows you to download apps) and get the free speed test app. Your download speed will probably fluctuate a lot at first while the bugs get sorted out. Get a speed package that guarantees way above the minimum he streaming target of 8mbps (11 Mbps is the best minimum). If you’re not streaming he properly run a speed test and if your speed is too low adjust your video options on the Apple TV box (its in settings). When your next test shows your speed is back up then adjust to he accordingly. Try to keep your downloads to when you’re getting good speeds.

I think a lot of the problem is that people just dont understand this technology and are doing it wrong. But if you’re showing constant slow speeds using the speed test app then complain to your service provider – a lot.

Also, use the unlimited download option if you can afford it – because sooner or later things will click into place and you will become an internet hound. I dont watch any “live” tv anymore: i can stream it all via the apps Ive downloaded on the Apple TV (sbs abc – the commercial stations if i want them).

Ps I have NBN installed during the labor period. I can stream high definition on multiple screens while using multiple wi fi devices. The only problem was the occasional game download (40gb – about 30 minutes of download on mine – would blow my 100gb limit, so i went unlimited).

            Have fun!

            Bassy
If you avoid wireless and use a direct connection to you router life will be so much better.
The amount of wireless connections are now so high the whole spectrum available is being swamped. If you like me are living in the vicinity of apartment complexes, there are literally hundreds of connections that will slow your internet speed to a crawl.
The government must soon release more spectra to allow better speeds.

        • darren says:

That problem happened to my oldies. When I checked it turns out its quite common. Has something to do with Telstra but Ive forgotten what the problem was. Lots about this on google though.

I see the coalition are continuing to run the regional rorts not content with a 90% spend of regional funds in coalition seats the “health” Minister is now talking about higher Medicare payments to regional people. This is an admission that the coalition policies are failing and their best efforts is to pander to regional marginal seats. Get rid of the Private Health Insurance rebate subsidy for those earning over $100K which will force the Private Health Insurers’ to compete and become efficient and put that $6 billion per year into Public Health. The coalition continue to flail and are taking the rest of Nation under with them.
