Humble servant of the Nation

Malcolm Turnbull’s ticking clock — Newspoll noose around PM’s neck

SHARE
, / 25123 966

Another year, another polly on the ropes over expense claims. Sussan Ley has been on the receiving end of a media pommeling and the collective wisdom is she’s been a naughty minister. She has been dispatched to Coventry and the view is she should settle down and grow accustomed to her new home.

As an observer of various entitlements farragoes over the years, I think Ms Leys’ spending puts her in exalted company, somewhere between Peter Slipper and the guv’nor, Labor’s Mal Colston. Spending $21,000 in a week or so on transport is extraordinary. I didn’t even think it was possible. With those frequent flyer miles, you can forget about the carrot sticks and chardy in the Qantas club. It’s foot-long lobster subs and Moët by the schooner. Hell, they’ll get you your own plane. Maybe even let you fly it.

The Minchin Protocol always sounded like a bad novel and now as it comes to its denouement, it is about as satisfying as an EH Holden Mechanics’ manual or anything knocked out by Clementine Ford.

A One Nation Senator going to Donald Trumps inauguration Mr Insider as an invitee and our PM Turnbull wasn’t even invited! Knock me down with a fly swatter, what to make of this? And Malcolm was one of the 1st people to phone Donald when he won the election, with Greg Normans help who gave Turnbull Trumps phone number. “Crapsville” Malcolm!

Yes, a bit bizarre, HB. But good old Pauline decided to stay at home and look after her flock! It goes to show that the Don is fully aware of hat’s going on around the traps.

  • Jean Baptiste says:

How about a competition. What is Malcolm thinking?

” Does my gear look big in this?”

” Probably is a better idea to put the socks in a plastic bag.”

    • JackSprat says:

Davos – where the rich discuss the problems of the world and never do anything about them.

Trump is not going as is none of his hench-persons are going – at least he sees that talk fest for what it is – a total waste of time.

      • Uncle Quentin says:

I have to do a double take whenever Davos is mention because I automatically think Davros, creator of the Daleks and Dr Who’s arch enemy…

  • Snooky says:

JTI, may I just praise your tasteful choice of white in the layout of your blog

  • JackSprat says:

I see Bill Shorten racked up $51,531 in the 6 months to June last year on business class family travel – no wonder he has been so quiet on the subject.

Abe and Turnbull think they can pressure Trump on the TPP by signing early. Methinks that they do not understand the man. Covert pressure will never work on somebody like him. It will probably make him more determined not to sign. Now if they can make him think that it was his idea ….

  • BASSMAN says:

Dealing with stupid people Rodent:- neither protests or the use of force accomplish anything here Bald with such people. Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. Reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict one’s prejudgment simply need not believed. In such moments the stupid person even becomes critical. When facts are irrefutable they are just pushed aside by blind worship at the alter of politics and ideology. In all this, the stupid person in contrast to the malicious one is utterly self-satisfied and being easily irritated, becomes dangerous and frequently attacks. For this reason greater caution is called for when dealing with a stupid person than with a malicious one. Never again try to persuade the stupid person with science, reason, logic and facts. It is useless and even dangerous!

    • Yvonne says:

If you’re referring to Trump I agree, Bassy.
Whether the world wants it or not he will be POTUS in a couple of days. And the world may as well get used to it.
AS you say, provoking him could produce negative, impulsive reaction .
I think everyone would be well advised to take a deep breath and wait and see. He no doubt has a long memory – and I certainly wouldn’t be game to antagonise him.
Boycotting his inauguration is pointless and rather rash if you ask me.

      • JackSprat says:

I agree. He will have a looong memory Yvonne.

People in some very high places around the world have hurled insults at him over the last 18 months and I do not think he will forgive them easily.

If Shorten ever becomes PM, he can forget ever having contact with the man.

By the way, he is far from being stupid.

He is well aware that the US is in an economic pincer movement from China and Germany – (low end from China , high end from Germany. He sees China as a currency manipulator which it is and Germany benefiting from a low Euro as a result of the rest of the poor performing European states. He is right on both counts.

He is a weird mixture of flaws and assets.

I am waiting for him to start on China for all of those stolen IP rights that they have benefited from over the last 2 decades.

      • JackSprat says:

It would be interesting to document what people said about him during the election campaign and then plot how they fare in the future.
Some were very outspoken – Shorten described him as “barking mad” and Beazley described his presidency as likely to be terrifying. Keating wants to “cut the tag”with the US now that he is President. Scratch Labor from the Christmas Card list!
Turnbull described his attitude to women as loathsome.
What could be worse of course are the private statements – many of which would have gotten back to Trump.
I guess if we need to rebuild Oz-US relations we could always bring back Tony who had the good sense to see what was happening during the election campaign!
Mrs Merkel said he was “Culturally interesting”.
A very large number of German pollies commented adversely about him.
        Fascinating!

        • Yvonne says:

Hilarious really – at that time no-one thought there was a hope in hell of him becoming POTUS! Some may be having sleepless nights these days!

AVON:-keep this post. It is a warning. After the honeymoon period where the usual suspects 2GBiased, the Sheridans and Co of this world emerge from the fog well they are going to have pools off egg to swim in. Trump is going to be the biggest disaster the world has ever seen. You don’t lose the popular vote by nearly 3million votes for a reason. With so many of his own side walking out on him and preparing to vote against some of his madness, his past business contacts saying what an evil lying conniving piece of excrement he is, the tsunami has already started. I am standing on the table…I am taking names!

        • Yvonne says:

Ok – if AVON is me – I’ll do that Bassy.
I look at the other side of the equation – a hell of a lot of Yanks did vote for him. Why? We will find out over the next 4-8years.
Why AVON by the way? Is this another weird ”joke” from way back that I am not getting? I’m still trying hard to be a ”good German” to keep Dismayed happy

  • Henry Blofeld says:

Did Hitler escape alive to Argentina Mr Insider? This article attached makes the claim he did and a program about this soon to air on the History Channel. Claims he planned to start a 4th Reich do seem a bit far fetched given his massive balls up of the 3rd Reich. Speaking of balls the article does tell us Adolf was deficient to the tune of one testicle. Meaty stuff Mr Insider and some 70 odd years later we are still fascinated with Hitler.

Well I could never believe OSama the world’s most wanted man, eventually caught after many years and disposed of in utmost secrecy in some sort of spooky religious ceremony was never ‘proof of deathd’.

        • Mack the Knife says:

I think it was deliberate they disposed of his body at sea. Islam has very strict guidelines on what happens to dead people and sea burials ain’t in the manual.

    • JackSprat says:

Henry, there is a medical report floating around from when Hitler joined the army in WW1 – about the only one of its kind.
I am pretty sure it says that he had two but one was not quite up to scratch.
A more accurate description is that the History Channel is obsessed with the Nazis – not the world.
They do have some interesting stuff though – like the fact that the whole of the German Army was high on Crystal Meth for the duration.
The yanks were not to be outdone and Benzedrine was liberally distributed throughout the Pacific theater. There are hints that the Air Force used it in Europe but I have not seen any documented evidence..
The Russians, I think, got by on vodka.
As to Hitler in Argentina – that furphy has been around for yonks.

      • Henry Blofeld says:

Thanks JackSprat a fascinating subject isn’t it the old Adolf and it just keeps getting wheeled out for us to ponder. Going by all good reports Hitler was a broken sick man at the time he took his life so any 4th Reich anywhere else would have been out of the question imho

        • jackSprat says:

Read what his Doctor had him on at the end of the war – it is a wonder that he could actually stand up.
He and his henchmen were psychopathic, murdering … words fail me.
But there again, from about 1934 to 1938, many people in the world thought he was the answer to all the world’s problems.
There were only a few who spoke out against him .
It is highly likely that in 200 years, he will be remembered as the dominant historical figure of the 20th century and not the people who defeated him. Quite sad really.

    Mr JB Hi FI ,..
    I nee your help sir?
Ok ,.. The Rockwell spaceship disaster I think they call it where our little mates from outer space crashed landed at the location down near Texas , What is the guts of that, Prof Jean? ,….
I know you love this stuff , I am sitting on the fence with splinters in my rear end on all this after much media think it is true at the time. I was sitting in my club drinking coffee with aviators years back when two blokes arguing on this doing the maths and physics . It took others to settle these blokes down , Ok, over to you sir?

    • Bella says:

      Don’t you mean Roswell 1947? – Area 51?
      Who really knows Rodent…wait…you do?
The last thing the US government will ever want is an informed public capable of free thought.
You’re a pilot so you’d have to be a smart guy but I just don’t think that you want to research beyond newspaper headlines.
      Regards, Bella

    • Jean Baptiste says:

I believe it is possible that another civilisation could have evolved many millions of years ago in a place far far away and could have become itinerant space travellers for millions of years meaning they could feasibly have reached these parts coincidentally in the geological split second of human existence. But it’s highly unlikely.
I was asked for an opinion on Roswell by a mate who was a bit loopy and looked into it. It took about 7 minutes to become convinced that it is a cheap obvious fraud.
Anyone sitting on the fence as you claim to be on the matter is a fractionally less gullible dill than those who believe it to be true.

You’re trying to change the subject again aren’t you rodent?

Sorry Henry, the man is an ignorant ass, elected by the worst elements in America. His ‘first lady’, is an eastern European former model, (couldnt think of a worse applicant for the job) who knows for sure that all women have to be is skinny and pretty. No mate, I wouldnt rock up to that show either. Hat full of arseholes in one small room.
    .
I understand national unity and all that ‘rah rah rah USA USA USA!’ rubbish, but you have to draw a line somewhere for your own dignity. That line, is Trump.
vale the dignity of the Republican Party.

    • Henry Blofeld says:

Lets see how he goes Wraith is my suggestion. Sure most of us have low expectations of Trump as POTUS but surely the American people haven’t got it so wrong? Time will tell my friend whether he is a sound choice for 45th President of the USA. Inauguration live ABC24 from 2am this Saturday morning.

      • wraith says:

2am? Only for the truly committed, or those that need to be.

Or for silly old fellas who’ve been rising at that time all their lives and can’t shake the habit. I’ll watch it but its that or Rage, and only because I’ll be awake.

      • jack says:

Henry, that is fair, i generally believe that the people get it right, and the system in the US is imperfect but pretty good.

Trump certainly is interesting. i see he now has the peckersniffs of the EU hyperventilating.

i read his comments on Europe, Mekel made a catastrophic error in encouraging mass un-documented migration, Nato is obsolete and the others should stop free-loading on the US and pay their way with men and money, Germany is taking advantage of the lousy economies in the south to do even better themselves.

i still think Nato has a big role but all the rest of it seems about right to me.
