I’ll let you into a little secret. Bill Shorten is on the nose. I’m not talking about general community scepticism or the bounty of the Coalition’s “Kill Bill’’ strategy. There are grave concerns within the party itself, especially at the grass roots level.
To understand this best, we need to go back to the night of March 17, when Shorten stood with his right arm raised in triumph with Ged Kearney at the Northcote Town Hall. A seat Labor feared was lost had been retained despite the best efforts of the right-wing faction of the party.
Batman had once been the jewel in the Labor crown, the safest of seats in the Hawke-Keating era, safer even than Bob Hawke’s seat of Wills which joins Batman at its western fringe. Two decades later it had become an outpost due mainly to the right wing of the party treating one of its great assets as a factional plaything. First Martin Ferguson was parachuted in, then the right dropped in David Feeney after Feeney failed to get a winnable place on the senate ballot.

YOU SAY:-“Buoyant global economy you say Bassy? As for debt we had none when Rudd was elected”.
Are you insane? Costello left a $90billion structural deficit we will be paying off forever according to the man himself on the 7.30 Report. If Costello had the revenue Swan had, NINE of his so called “surpluses” would have been in deficit. Costello arrived at his surpluses via huge taxation, good luck and selling off everything we owned including the family silver. Ever heard of the GFC? Well it cost labor $160billion in revenue son. Labor high taxing? Here ya go Bald…. The seven highest TAXING years in the history of our country have ALL been under Liberal governments. The ten highest SPENDING years in the history of our country have ALSO been under Liberal governments. There have been only seven occasions where the tax to GDP ratio has been in excess of 23.5 per cent of GDP and all seven were under the Liberals.
Costello sold the building I work in, purpose-built though it was. They have now paid more in rent than the sale brought in. Expletive deleted.
And don’t forget Bill is objecting to the terrible cuts to the ABC…..I’m very sad about what is being done by this government. But you all go right ahead and watch your commercial TV, personally I can’t stand it.
Can’t remember the last time I watched anything on the ABC, occasionally SBS mainly for Tour de France and odd documentary.
No commercial tv except for the summer cricket as was on Nine and we also have to suffer the dire Olympic/Com games coverage on Seven, prefer Fox sports and it’s the only reason for Foxtel.
SKY news only morning bulletins and maybe a bit of Speers in the early evening, can’t stand Credlin, Murray et al and there are my viewing tv viewing habits. Tend to go our own way with the Blu-rays and DVD’s of various series/doco’s other than that,
Only in government is a freeze considered a cut.
Do you think Q&A when it ventures into political subjects is balanced Penny?
I notice that they are sending all their journos who contribute to the news on a course to brush up on their skills and tell stories that their shrinking audience relates to or something like that. (Is that a definition of an echo chamber ?)
It is a pity really because they do some really good stuff and only get into trouble when politics comes into it.
An assumption that our bloggers watch commercial TV? I only watch SBS or ABC quite happily. SBS on Demand is fantastic, as are their free to air programs.
Returning the $350million in cuts to the ABC (since the Looters were elected) would be a great election issue for
Stan LaurelShorten but he would be too dumb to take it up WE WANT OUR ABC BACK. Of the 300 or so programmes that are on the ABC all of these cuts are aimed at just 2 or 3 like Insiders, 7.30 report. They should start cutting programmes that wld hurt the Looters electorally. If the Liberals lose the next election for sure the ABC will become the Murdoch of the air waves only aimed at the Looters.
Apologise for double post…dunno how dat happened!
Great suggestion by Dutts! Surely nobody could disagree with this! My god he’s future leadership material! Jacinda, over to you!

Not biting
Dutton us a disgrace. he continues to make hysterical and false statements anyone who thinks this arsehole has any leadership qualities is obviously an ignorant deluded person.

I like Bill Shorten Jack you don’t have to think when you listen to him he’s so simple.
Labor’s candidate for next month’s Darling Range by-election in Western Australia has quit after questions were raised over her academic credentials, just two weeks after the previous MP for the state seat resigned for repeatedly lying about his past.
In a move that raises further doubts the ALP’s ability to vet its candidates, Colleen Yates released a statement today announcing she had pulled out of the June 23 by-election just five days after being endorsed by the party.

Bill Shorten’s campaign anthem. It’ll be a smash hit all over again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiB99A5WMyA
Beautifully put Wissendorf, a CMFEU Puppet to be precise. Cheers
CMMFEU now Henry. The wharfies brought an M with them.
Brings back childhood memories…
It’s over before it started, Mr Insider. POTUS Trump has called off a historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un scheduled for next month, citing Pyongyang’s “open hostility,” and warning the US military is ready in the event of any reckless acts by North Korea. Kimmie is a “tosser class 1” and needs to clean up his “act” pronto lest the US Bombers appear in the skies over North Korea and do the job for him, should the idiot Kimmie provoke the US.

Trump is the “tosser class 1” Henry B.
His childish ‘mine’s bigger than yours’ dumb-dumb response does nothing but inflame the tensions & belittle North Korea at a time when KJU has recently proven he can be conciliatory.
Sad & stupid cafe.
And yet the USA is booming Bella, the Stock Market going gangbusters and so it goes on. Not bad under his short watch is it. Don’t see Trump as a Politician Bella as he is not. He’s a Deal Maker, a Mover and Shaker, Bill Shorten is not fit to tie Donald’s shoelaces imho. Cheers
And your o is very h indeed.
I think Bella, that if North Korea had come across a Trump early in the piece we would not be in this situation.
They are masters in promising, getting what they want and then ignoring what they promised.
Trump never had any intention Henry, as per evidenced by once again going ahead with practice invasion exercises off the North Korean coast. The man was just grandstanding as per usual. He’s FOS.
Or perhaps we should give him the benefit of the doubt and he had good intentions but the vested interests who have been milking the South Koreans for decades gave him a reality check.
Whatever, he’s still FOS.
It’ll come together he’s just getting him to pull his head in after the outburst a couple of days ago. Trump holds all the aces Kim has to come to the table.
