Humble servant of the Nation

The only Newspoll that matters for Turnbull is the thirtieth

Malcolm Turnbull set the trap for himself on September 14, 2015. Standing on the parliament lawns, he announced his resignation from cabinet and challenged a first term prime minister who had been in the job for two years to a spill in the party room.

Turnbull gave three reasons. A lack of economic leadership. A lack of cabinet process and the loss of 30 consecutive Newspolls.

“The one thing that is clear about our current situation is the trajectory. We have lost 30 Newspolls in a row. It is clear that the people have made up their mind about Mr Abbott’s leadership.”

Last year he told Miranda Devine he had regrets.

“I do regret having said it only because it allowed people to focus on that, rather than substantive reasons,” he said.

This is classic Turnbull. He doesn’t regret making the statement. He regrets only that his words have been manipulated and misconstrued his words by others.

What despairing stocks we have for National Leader. ‘Mercury’ Turnbull who melts and tries to assume a different form when you turn up the heat, and ‘Gumby’ Shorten who can bend in multiple directions simultaneously. Neither is worth a tinker’s cuss.

  • Henry Blofeld says:

“Lucky” we QLDers Mr Insider as we have Prince Charles and his Missus the lovely Camilla here at present, the Prince of course did the honours last night at the Games Opening Ceremony in declaring the Games open. He looked at times from the TV footage to be ready to scream “Beam Me Up Scotty”! Malcolm trued to keep him entertained showing him stuff on his Mobile.

    • Mack the Knife says:

Had to cringe this morning when the genius reporter on Channel Nein called Camilla the Duchess of Cornwell and seemed to emphasise the second syllable. How hard is it to get that right? Cringeworthy.

    • Perentie says:

I missed it. I like Charles. Shunning the tradition of inbreeding , he’s managed to find the only woman in the world more equine looking than his sister.

      • Razor says:

Brilliant Perentie! I will unashamedly plagiarise it.

      • Mack the Knife says:

Picture Camilla & Charles’ wedding night. Charles asks,” Camilla my Darling, how would you like us to do it?”. Camilla, “Oh Darling, I’d like to do it horsey style!”. Charles replies, “Oh I say, how exciting, Ok then”. So Camilla lets out a shrill whinny and kicks Charles right in the wedding tackle.

A little light reading folks, here’s Turnbull’s Memoirs listing all his achievements since toppling Abbott for the PMship, a “coup” that’s come back to haunt him. The lesson for all is to let the Party and Leader go through to the Election, let the people caste their vote as am sure they will in Turnbull’s case. He’s stuffed!

Mark Knowles; a gentleman, a generous mentor for young hockey players and a great in his game. I hope he goes out on a high, with a Gold, but if not he’s always been Gold.

  • BASSMAN says:

30, 40, 50 Newspolls…..who cares? The Looters are devoid of any leadership nouse. The fact that Dutts is even mentioned in the equations demonstrates this. Trouble is, we will end up with Shorten as PM. I would like to see the Newspolls shorten (as they will as we draw closer to the election) so that Labor will come up with someone who can draw the nation together. The Looters will not listen to the Oz’s Paul Kelly on coal, climate, NDIS, Education etc and are condemning themselves to electoral oblivion-probably DELIBERATELY so they can re-group in Opposition. Soft interviews on 2GBiased to 70yr old listeners will not help their cause. Kelly says any party that treats climate change/renewable energy with disdain is committing electoral suicide because they are popular policies. As he says in his interview with Tom Switzer it’s madness. Why is it madness? Because Turnbull believes in all of the things the Hard Right in his Party is opposes-global warming, pricing carbon, Paris Agreement,Renewable Energy. If he acted on his beliefs tomorrow he would improve his polling…but ” It’s too late, baby now, it’s too late
Though we really did try to make it Somethin’ inside has died, and I can’t hide And I just can’t fake it, oh, no, no it is too late baby now its too late”.

BRADMAN:-Smith is VERY wise not to call in the lawyers. The sympathy and forgiveness he has won would soon evaporate for sure. Warnie wants a total cleanout!

  • Dwight says:

Completely off topic, but the YouTube shooter was a militant vegan. Discuss.

    • Jack The Insider says:

      PETA person, too?

      • Dwight says:

Aghdam was an animal rights activist, according to the Associated Press, who participated in a 2009 protest with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in Oceanside, Calif.

        • Bella says:

          Discuss? What? Veganism?
Nine years ago she participated in an animal rights march then dropped out of sight Dwight. Are you insinuating that’s somehow related to what’s happened now?

      • Boadicea says:

        Animal instincts……….?

    • Razor says:

Let’s see how the left handles that.

      • Bella says:

FGS Razor tell me you don’t actually believe that people who choose a vegan diet are all from “the left” and secondly
surely you don’t equate veganism with violence mate, that’s just deplorable.
That disturbed woman had a serious grudge against the YouTube company & she owned a gun. That’s the story.
If she had eaten a BigMac that day, do you suppose that would be newsworthy?
People seem so self-righteous when they all get down to stereotyping an individual over their lifestyle choices.

        • Penny says:

I’m hoping Bella that these posts about vegans and people’s lifestyle choices are just these guys having a joke. I’m not a vegan myself, but have been to friends places for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the vegan dishes on offer. One of these friends turned vegan for a year after he suffered a major heart attack and his recovery was quite remarkable……and another astounding fact is that he is a conservative voter…..so there you go.
Linking veganism to the YouTube shooting incident is a stretch indeed.

        • Dismayed says:

Hear Hear Bella, Hear, Hear. the right whingers are grasping at straws as usual.

  • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

Removing another first-term PM in the face of all the evidence of how disastrously that had turned out for the other mob was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the stupidest thing the federal Liberals have ever done. I mean, the sort of stupid that if an airline pilot or a bridge engineer did it, hundreds of people would die. That magnitude of stupid.

In fact it’s even worse than that because even before the Labor Party provided an encyclopaedia of evidence for why back-stabbing a first-term PM was a bad idea, the Liberals in Victoria and the Country Liberals in the Northern Territory had done the same thing to first-term leaders, Ted Baillieu and Terry Mills and gone on to humiliating defeats after one term.

Consider this: in the last eight years only ONE Liberal leader has managed to survive a single term – Colin Barnett. Seven others, Baillieu, Mills, Denis Napthine, Adam Giles, Tony Abbott, Barry O’Farrell and Mike Baird have not managed to complete even ONE term in office. It remains to be seen whether Malcolm Turnbull can.

The Libs are a mess. They need a good enema to flush out whatever it is that’s ailing them.

    • Uncle Quentin says:

Enema variations? Arrest and execute every member of the liberal party and staffers. Arrest and execute every member of the national party and staffers. Arrest and execute every member of the One Nation, staffers and supporters.
I’d call it the night of the long knives

    • smoke says:

      turnbullian stupid?

    • PG says:

      BLW,
I think you will find Will Hodgman in Tassie has completed one term as Liberal premier and is currently in his second.

      • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

        Durnit! Yer right!

(I was going to make a sarcy comment about Tassie being overseas, but fair’s fair).

  • Lou oTOD says:

We’re in a race to the bottom Jack, and it is not even wearing a g-string for modesty. Don’t worry about Malcom falling on his metaphorical sword, he can’t stand the sight of blood and especially his own. If not careful however, he could do what no-one would have contemplated ten years ago, and that is a splintering of the Coalition into irrelevance.

How many remember the woe is me, and Labor is stuffed talk when Abbott rolled Rudd mk2? No wonder Shorten won’t hear ill of his mates in the CFMMEU, a funding vehicle into the Lodge. What’s a bet Malcolm doesnt front with any more of his hard earned for the next election campaign? He has played dumb politics, but he’s not that dumb. Or is he?

  • Dwight says:

Mal suffers from a terminal lack of leadership. Deep down he knows he’s a beta male–like every bloke in the Green Party–so he can’t “man up”. His own weaknesses are why he hangs on so firmly.

  • Bella says:

Malcolm Turnbull, his truth, a lifetime ago..
“We are as humans conducting a massive science experiment with this planet. It’s the only planet we’ve got. We know that the consequences of unchecked global warming would be catastrophic. We know that extreme weather events are occurring with greater & greater frequency & while it is never possible to point to one drought or one storm or one flood & say that particular incident is caused by global warming we know that these trends are entirely consistent with the climate change models that the scientists are relying on.
We as a human species have a deep & abiding obligation to this planet & to the generations that will come after us.”

Turnbull bought his job, then he sold out his own truths to keep it.
What a sad, spineless guy he has become.
    (Apologies for lengthy post JTI)

    • Boadicea says:

They all change colours if necessary to win votes, Bella. Shorten no different
      That’s politics in Australia!

      • Bella says:

Turncoat’s not winning with Australians though Boadicea so the way I see it, if he seriously had our interests at heart, he’d be steering the nation towards a clean renewable energy future. Instead he lies his head off to stop it.
You know, come to think of it, perhaps those glass panels his mansion is covered in were installed by the GOOD Malcolm & this jellyfish Malcolm hasn’t twigged why they’re there!
Possibly he’s too busy spruiking for the big polluters.
