I have a confession to make. I may be a secret New Zealander. I was born in Melbourne and my father was a fifth generation Australian. However, my mother was born and raised in the world’s most southern city, Invercargill. I know this because when I was at primary school, I had a pencil case purchased from Invercargill which boasted this important fact.
Just quietly I think Invercargillers or whatever they call themselves might have a challenger from Punta Arenas in Chile but let’s not get bogged down on the finer points of geography.
Invercargill isn’t the arsehole of the world but if you clamber out to Bluff at the southern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, you can see it from there. Just up the road is a town called Gore, a place so windswept and uninteresting that even the locals look embarrassed. I guess Gore would be the perineum of the world.
My mother arrived in Australia in 1954 and became an Australian citizen a decade later. She claims that process required her to renounce her NZ citizenship so she could vote in Australian elections. Her memory is based on the fact that her mother, who was visiting Australia at the time, took serious umbrage.

I’m a county lad Jack don’t date much lonely on the farm but took Mavis out for dinner at Hungry Jacks and over a burger asked her if she would like to engage in coitus post dinner. She slapped my face put her burger and drink in her bag and left. Where did I go wrong?
Burgers don’t talk about themselves?
Hungry Jacks….🤔
Joyce gets to be PM whilst Duffer is away with only 4.9% of the vote. It’s a farce! And he is a Kiwi to boot! Given the government’s weakened position in the Senate and that its lower house majority fell to one at the last election, Turnbull cannot accurately claim to have a ‘clear ‘ mandate.
Be clear about this. It’s NOT a plebiscite. It’s a non-binding voluntary postal survey of no statistical merit. If people do boycott the postal ‘plebiscite’, they will be playing right into the hands of Abbott, Bernardi, Vile Lyle & Co. Big mistake.
Even though it appears that our MPs have abandoned human decency and compassion with regard to asylum seekers, for political reasons, they might be still sensitive to economic considerations. At $500,000 per refugee a year it makes economic sense to bring them home.
Inequality covers:-slow wages growth, penalty rates, job security, housing affordability, cost of living, taxation, bank scandals, lack of equality for women in pay and superannuation, even education and health care and I see plenty of it! Tolls come into the equation. Saw a tradie on the news who pays $300 a week in tolls!
Pole and wires accounts for 51% of my electricity bill so no point in reducing your m power….they will just jack up the poles and wires fee…as they have been doing. Looters privatised poles and wires in NSW, Vic, SA-the main reason for high prices plus Howard selling off our gas for nothin ion 2002. 5c a litre I think!
JG did the damage on the gas Bassy.
No way. Howard started selling it for nothing
She was the one who never allowed for retention of gas for the local market.
It’s APPEA that doesn’t want domestic reservation. Hardly a bunch of lefties.
Well why didn’t Howard he was in 1996-2007
Julia was told at the time and had the opportunity to do so as confirmed by Richard Marles.
Gas retention is never a good idea. Let it out, I say.
You are getting confused. No surprises. the former Labor Government allowed 3 companies to build their own gas plants. IF Labor had said No you would have been screaming sovereign risk as some commentators did at the time when the decision was still to be made, Get it through your head there is NO domestic Gas shortage. The cartel are forcing prices up. There was a report released yesterday showing they deliberately only release just below the energy required by the AEMO/NEM then push up the prices by 1000% for the remainder of the energy required. This is another reason they are resisting 5 minute pricing because they can make a killing for 30 minutes. You should be concerned about the government wanting to give firstly $1 Billion for a railway to nowhere and as of yesterday about half $Billion to refurbish the AGL plant which would also add to power prices. Seriously you have NO clue.
Not only did Howard take credit for massive Gas contracts to China through the 2000’s at rock bottom prices he also sold over $72 billion worth of assets to pay debt that Labot had left it is worth noting that Hawke and Keating inherited $40 Billion of Debt from Fraser and Howard. Liberals better economic managers, Pigs Arse.
Asset sales loom large in analysing government debt. $96billion “Labor debt”, comprised of $40 billion carried over from the Fraser government as you rightly state meaning that the true level of Labor debt was $56billion. To pay that off, the Howard Government sold almost $79billion of Government assets (Telstra, DASFLEET, CSIRO, Airports etc etc), meaning that the move to negative net debt was not really due to any miraculous and bold fiscal genius, but owed everything to a series of asset sales, cuts to schools, hospitals and the least amount spent on infrastructure in 32 years . Costello will be remembered for selling two-thirds of Australia’s gold reserves for the rock-bottom price of $US306 per ounce when gold reached $US1590 per ounce at one stage. The deficit Howard left Hawke was relatively bigger than the deficit Rudd left this mob if adjusted to today’s dollars.
Any chance of a blog on the WA Liberals’ decision to put forward a motion to turn WA into a bigger version of Hutt River Province?
It also looks like I picked a bad night not to hide under the bed.
POTUS and FLOTUS Trump performing miracles in flooded Texas and Louisiana, Mr Insider, where Trump has assumed the role of “Comforter In Chief”. They are getting a Rock Star welcome wherever they go.

What sort of miracles? Parting seas? Turning water into wine?
yes “too much water” he whined
Miracles you say. Lives have been lost & Trump tweets “how exciting” the big floods are. Moron that he is.
Rugby league crowd in the bar today, but from the amount of ink you’d be forgiven thinking Collingwood.

Tattoos are art.
Your body, your choice.
Happy Father’s Day to all you scrumptious dads, worth your weight in gold/scotch/chocolates etc and so forth.
Forgot no EPL this weekend due to world cup qualifiers but at least it’s all sorted for next weekend
Life lessons from the Houston floods, for the next disaster.
1. Keep fit enough to get yourself away unaided.
or, 2. If disabled, stay small enough to be carried by no more than 2 others.
or, 3. If so big it takes 6 people to move you, pretend you are an abandoned dog or cat.
This is true for all natural disasters.
It’d be interesting to see what precedent the High Court might set if it rules on Dr. Gillespie as to how direct a benefit must be to fall under the guidelines of profiting from the Crown.
Vote Yes in the postal survey. Keep your religious fantasies in your own home. Stop trying to claim if people get to choose their life partners it will somehow stop you from having your fantasy about a guy in the sky. this postal survey highlights the religious fantasists really just want to continue to be able to Judge people and believe their beliefs should be more important than everyone else’s. .Voting Yes for Choice. Will not effect the education on 1 child. to claim other wise is a Lie.
God know’s what effected your education champ, but you are way off the mark if you think religion is going to influence most people’s vote one way or the other. Bigot’s like you are doing more harm to the yes vote than your myopic brain could fathom.
I should add arrogance and hectoring from either side of the “debate” will only harm their cause. I imagine a decent percentage (guessing 60%) of voters are agnostic on ssm whilst the decided may be 20/20% for either side. A clear and sober argument for one’s view, I feel, will be the more persuasive.
Your imaginary statistics have it backwards, my dear Milton. Actual statistics (e.g. the HILDA study) have SSM percentage support in the mid-60s and rising, anti in low 20s, and fence-sitters just above 10. And yes, religion is a big factor among Nos.
So explain to me again why we are having this non-binding statistical survey? The Liberal Party may be confused, but the nation already knows what it wants.
My dear John, the coalition went to the last election offering a plebiscite on ssm. They won that election, proffered a plebiscite only to have labor knock it back, thus denying Australians a say, via a plebiscite. In short, we are “having this non-binding statistical survey” courtesy of Shorten and the Labor party.
If you are happy with statistics why not be happy with statistics provided by elections and plebiscites. They would give a better indication of what the nation really wants than that offered by HILDA’s survey of only about 20 000.
To be honest, considering the leftist leanings of Universities, how much faith would people have in their findings??
Now there’s that Dismal charm. Accuse people of being pig ignorant and then asking them to agree with you. Freudian projection at its finest. Well done!
A big no for me its Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.
Adam and Eve were never married, Troy.
In the garden of Eden lay Adam
Stroking the thighs of his madam;
He chuckled with mirth
Because he knew on this earth
There were only two balls
And he had ’em.
Beautiful Carl! You know I enjoy a good limerick.
That’s not the issue Perentie!

Oh did anyone notice SA Still has the lowest Electricity prices in he country??? And despite the government already secretly agreeing to Subsidise the scam rail line in QLD the mine wont produce. Recent announcement left out the fact apart from the Taxpayer of Australia Adani still don’t have banks prepared to fund the scam. Says all we need to know about the coalition, look at today another $100 million of unfunded tax relief at the cost of the taxpayer for “risk taking” in turnbulls own words. No surprises. they are desperate and don’t have a single policy in the national interest. the legislation put forward recently is just disgraceful. Oh and we see NO Security agency recommended duttons changes . But as usual the coalition supported by the Australian still want to blame the last government for everything.
Spot prices don’t count and you know it.
