Have you ever thought you might be a secret Italian? Maybe you’re a Canadian and never knew, eh? Perhaps you quietly pine for the fjords of New Zealand but don’t know why?
See, here’s me thinking the Australian Parliament and the Senate in particular had become a freak show P.T. Barnum have been proud to tour the world with, but really it’s just a run of the mill soapie.
It’s a series of Home and Away scripts where the chilly winters of Canberra are replaced by the constant sunshine of Summer Bay.
Full column here.
After 22 years, I have just been granted a Temporary Residents Card. Does this mean that I can no longer aspire to be Australia’s Prime Minister? WFM!
You’re out of the race, Gryzly. If it were down to me you’d be in the Lodge right now but rulez is rulez.
i am a permanent resident of the HKSAR, and i was wondering whether that would make me ineligible, i think perhaps not, but it is unclear. not that it matters, any political ambitions i had i abandoned in about 1990.
The Canavan story seems a bit suss to me, i would want to see some evidence to support the idea that a 25 year old had no input into the application.
There was a bit of fashion a few years ago for Sydney folks who had an Irish grandmother to take out Irish citizenship and get a passport so that they could travel more easily and work in the EU. Some also got citizenships and passports for very young kids.
I was imagining a scenario where such kid had no recollection of that, no longer had contact with the father who arranged it, and no way of knowing of the citizenship.
what then?
Are you allowed to vote? I was granted permanent residency in Oz but that didn’t give me Oz citizenship nor the right to vote.
My mother as a permanent resident of the U.K. was allowed to vote even though she was note a British citizen, interestingly I couldn’t vote in the EU referendum because I had been out of the country for over fifteen years.
tracy, i can register to vote in elections for the local member.
doesn’t mean much, the member sits in Legco but it’s stacked with semi-appointed members and the government is separately appointed, with a thin veneer of democracy.
Hong Kong is still a colony, just that is now a Chinese colony.
Looks like the NRL referees are being pathetic cowards again. Obviously swinging arms at a player’s head and then again when prone on the ground is no longer a send-off offence, even after last week.
Very lucky that the Broncos player didn’t end up going off on a stretcher. Or a couple of Parramatta players in retaliation the way things are going.
Nothing short of premeditated murder would seem to be worthy of even 10 in the bin.
As for political insanity, I still think the Trump Administration has us covered – http://www.newyorker.com/news/ryan-lizza/anthony-scaramucci-called-me-to-unload-about-white-house-leakers-reince-priebus-and-steve-bannon. I do hope the auto-fellatio references are indeed metaphorical.
Surely SHY had to present some kind of paperwork to the Air Force in Roswell in 1947. Can someone follow up?
That is rather insulting to our alien friends Dwight……wherever they may be.
🙂
The good people of SA seem to like her Dwight – now that’s a bigger worry.
There are a few people in my immediate circle that like her also – now that’s an even bigger worry – I must be mixing with the wrong crowd 🙂
U not mixing them hard enough
You gotta use one of those big industrial mixers. Or one full of cement.
She does have very large eyes
My goodness, Scaramucci’s expletive-laden speech – disgusting . Surely this circus cannot last?
Scaramucci’s family name is a misspelling of Scaramuccia, the commedia dell’arte clown known for his buffoonery. He is a fictional character so we don’t need to be concerned.
But can he do the Fandango?
But will he do a fandango?
There is something increasingly Byzantine about the Trump presidency. People discover their fates not through palace whispers these days, but through tweets. What he lacks in due process he makes up for by a complete absence of civility.
Did anyone else notice canavan admitted to representing the mining “Industry” instead of the people of Australia and its resources?
Summer Bay indeed Jack, although that show is a little too Waspy for the current goings on. It seems we have taken our multi-cultural society to new heights, and now this has moved on to who is going to screw who, for a Pyrrhic victory or two.
Days of Our Lives being played out perfectly.
Bring on the election Obi Wan its our only.

What’s your best guess on the over/under on the number of pollies we lose?
How about half-a-dozen?
Bankstown, Sydney, Australia. Where great Australians came from,
