Put aside the rubber band and icy pole stick jokes. Australia is going into space. Soon. well, soon-ish. Weather permitting.
In typical Australian fashion, the government has decided a space agency sounds like it might be a good idea and have immediately announced a committee to see if it really is a good idea and after that committee reports, the government will review it immediately or in the fullness of time, whichever comes first and move straight to establishing a working party to announce the formation of a commission to get cracking on creating a new committee to conduct a feasibility study. When that’s done, the sky’s the limit or it might be if a bunch of government consultants decide it is.
“This is really a way to bring the whole issue to a head,” Industry Minister Arthur Sinodinos says in a statement announcing the review.
At this pace we should have a space agency around the time Burkina Faso sends its first manned mission to Pluto.

Top posts smoke, both! Cheers
“Only a Green could tweet his resignation from Parliament like this”, writes SMH’s Tony Wright and Tony tells us this is what Scott Ludlam tweeted, Mr Insider and I quote: ” “hey everyone. i’m sorry about this, but it’s a thing. i’ll really miss it, but there are other ways to make trouble. love and thanks.” “And with that, Scott Ludlam, Greens senator, announced what “the thing” was. He’d been taking the Queen’s shilling – $199,000 last year – for nine years. And had never been entitled to a cent of it”, continues Tony, story linked. This stinks to high heaven imho, Mr Insider, FGS!

No it doesn’t Henry.
Watching how Scott has owned & handled his resignation is admirable & actually sets an example that the other greedy swamp creatures are too small, too weak, too grasping to follow.
For nine years I felt reassured knowing he was there fighting.
I’ve no idea how old you are Henry, nor does it matter to me, but his tweet speaks to his massive social media following who are predominately in the 18-35 age bracket. They love him because they want a decent, fair politician to lead Australia in their future.
Bless you hopelessly out of touch with reality Bella. Your Scott is nothing but a sponge on the hard working Australian Taxpayer and imho should be made to repay every cent he has gotten for a position he should never have “held”. He’s a shocker Bella, as are you for sticking up for him. Cheers. P.S. he may even end up doing “porridge”.
Are you seriously .lecturing me on being “out of touch with reality” Henry whilst you maniacally, relentlessly spout your support for that ecocidal wingnut in the White House?
Very sad that you’ve locked yourself into a belief system without an inch of wiggle room for the truth to ever get a look in.
Chin up sunshine.
Australia does have lots of Rocketry skills as you would know Mr Insider, via our Woomera Rocket Range in SA. Also we helped out NASA at our Honeysuckle Creek Earth station during the fabulously successful late 60’s/70’s Moon Landings. Here linked a quick clip of a Redstone Rocket launch in 1967 from Woomera. P.S. PM Turnbull could “reopen” Woomera as he did with the Snowy Mountains Hydro, no flies on Malcolm!

One thing’s a certainty, Jack, an absolute certainty. We’d be there if only we followed every advocate’s assertions – very, very, positive assertions. Especially those declamations punctuated by flags and emphatic fists.
Marchons! To Hell with humility.
A hot tip for the Cup would help, too.
someone, maybe Dismayed, was decrying our host for having a crack at the Democrats prospects.
you haven’t been paying attention, Obama was good at winning his own elections but that’s all, he didn’t help anyone else win.
it was a very bad time for the Dems, they lost almost everything else, around a thousand fewer federal, state and local Dems than there were in 2008.
of course the repubicans may implode and the Dems stroll back into power, but hope is never much of a plan or a strategy.
Ugh, thanks Jack. Hope and wishful thinking is all I got.
There are many that would agree that Obama was one of the weakest presidents ever, jack.
BODHISATTVA…. Boadicea says:
JULY 15, 2017 AT 1:35 PM …..There are many that would agree that Obama was one of the weakest presidents ever, jack.
Barack O’Bama added a 56% increase to the national debt mainly because he had to continue financing Bush’s wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the rise of ISIS caused by Bush’s interventions.
George W. Bush left Barack O’Bama a 101% increase in national debt.
George H.W. Bush increased national debt by 54% during his term
Ronald Reagan increased national debt by a massive 186% during his term.
O’Bama reversed a great recession, rebooted the auto industry, and unleashed the longest stretch of job creation in USA history. O’Bama shut down Iran’s nuclear weapons program without firing a shot, took out the mastermind of 9/11-Saddam; introduced marriage equality and introduced universal health insurance for 20 million Americans WHO NEVER HAD IT BEFORE! O’Bama inherited a shocker of a mess from his predecessor, George Bush, who was a multi trillion-dollar disaster and who had inherited a $237billion surplus from Clinton.
But was basically ineffectual because he could not negotiate with Congress.
I agree Boa. But he was important.
Well he certainly as a gentleman, Razor.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that Lee Rhiannon had an old USSR passport in her dacha.
If Ludlum’s actions were illegal should he be held to account?
Albeit on a smaller scale, those wanting Trump to be answerable to ‘alleged’ crimes, should be demanding Ludlum pay for an admitted ‘crime’ (if that is the word).
Read this Milton how disgraceful of Ludlam!

Unbelievable stuff up. Surely eligibility would be one of the first checks done?
Renouncing citizenship requires an actual action–filing a document. How can someone not know they never did that?
I wonder how we’re going to head to space now that Turnbull has gone and declared that the laws of mathematics don’t apply in Australia any longer. If that’s the case, I’m going to go and see if my back’s up to dancing on the ceiling – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovo6zwv6DX4 – and maybe we can resurrect Rodney Dangerfield as well.
Scott Ludlum seems to be of the opposite opinion, having forgotten to check if he wasn’t a Kiwi as well when he was elected as a Senator thrice.
Surely there’s some struggling country town somewhere up north that could do with The Big Rocket as its newest tourist attraction, too.
I presume that someone is checking on Hinch’s status too?
And surely Malcolm is now looking into Abbott’s dual nationality, since he stonewalled the rabid left on Twitter who have been asking about this for several years.
Abbott renounced his citizenship TV.
So it seems, but it took him until yesterday to confirm it.
He was apparently looking into Hinch’s citizenship expecting him to be remiss but found otherwise.
I can’t believe that someone who has been as well paid as Ludlum has for the past ten years has no assets.
Me either Tracy, a fast computer and some good shoes is not much to show for all that coin. However, if he stayed on for years his super would be pretty super.
I think the commentary in the TdF has an impossible act to follow. For mine the most exciting race in years.
Do miss Ligget and Sherwin though, not the same.
Who’s going to foot the bill for this thought bubble?
Don’t tell me, let me guess.
Hard-working taxpayers, many millions of whom are already financially pushed to the wall with ridiculously rising living expenses. If they’ve got all this spare cash, how about giving to our hospitals that are drowning in under-funding or the hugely under-funded aged care sector.
They don’t give a rats about a space station, nor should this nasty government who are clearly using this as yet another tactic to distract us from their pathetic record of governance.
Should I be fortunate enough to be chosen as our Astronaut dear Bella I will be seeking Sponsorship to make our Rocket a Free Enterprise one, clear of financial incumbency by the Aussie Taxpayer. In fact may I boldly suggest a name for our Aussie Rocket, that being the “Free Enterprise”, may she sail high and far, to go where Man has never been! Cheers.
Oh firw crying in a bucket – two AFL guys sacked and their wives publicly humiliated.
Office affairs have been a fact of life since offices were invented. Two consenting adults. And it’s not necessarily the boss who is the predator! And it’s probably fair to say that many men will not say no to what’s being offered on a silver platter.
Except in the good old days there wasn’t the opportunity to make big bucks out of it….. it happened, it was a bit of lust and it faded usually – and no one got hurt – especially the wives.
Yes, sure I’m a woman. But I’m not going to get all sanctimonious and hypocritical on this.
…
No cigars were harmed in the promotion of this scandal.
OT, but are the AFL running a footy competition or a forking Church?
weird, but funny,
“I expect that executives are role models and set a standard of behaviour for the rest of the organisation,” McLachlan said.
“They are judged, as they should be, to a higher standard.
“Many would ask why, but it was imperative for the way I lead and for our organisation to continue to change. I want a diverse and inclusive culture where employees are treated respectfully, fairly and represented at all levels. It was what we have been working so hard to achieve.
“The journey that we are on to a more equal and respectful workplace must be more than just two words. It must be backed up with action and with change. We have come along way.”
Lethlean had been a star on the rise emerged through the ranks with McLachlan. He had only recently been elevated into the top football operations role after Mark Evans left to join the Gold Coast Suns.
“I had no visibility of these actions when Simon was promoted,” McLachlan said.
I think the last bit translates as when I promoted my mate Simon i didn’t know he was shagging the young chick from the Auskick programme.
the rest of it is just random pious and sanctimonious rambling.
The two execs committed the gravest sin, getting caught. Had this not made the media nothing would have happened.
More precisely, getting caught while working for sanctimonious twats.
More importantly, bombers are looking good
He’s done a good job woosha
They were very good last night. Besides a lousy quarter and a half against Brisbane three weeks ago, they are in as good a nick as any team in the comp.
They were very, very good last night JTI and Jack. It makes everything that has happened since 2013 take a back seat. I don’t think they will make the finals though or if they do they won’t stay for long. But for me seeing this team play like that is just fantastic.
Bella, I too was disappointed that Scott Ludlam hard to resign after seeing him question Mitch Fyfield in a Senates Estimate committee. He certainly put his points across very well. And if people are asking hm to pay back his salary, that is fairly puerile if you ask me. Corey Bernardi ran in the last election as a Lberal Senator after aging a lovely six months as a UN observer sucking on the tax payers teat, then decides to desert the Liberals and form his own one person party….who is cheating the taxpayer here, hmmm? I hope Scott Ludlum pops up elsewhere where his talents can be well utilized. There are now no politicians left to admire
I’d be surprised if the Bombers don’t make the finals, Penny. And the evenness of the comp means your mob will be in with a shot.
It’s not so much repaying his salary Penny, it’s as my comment above why is he claiming no assets on a very generous salary and perks
yes i agree, they may well make the finals, their best is as good as anyone, and getting better.
i think they have managed the return of the players and mixing them in with the others very very well so far.
but do they keep improving or fall away, does the year off mean blokes run out steam?
it’s all untested and untried.
we have both been around footy for a long time, this is no sin, even if caught.
My point was that the AFL would not have acted at all had the media not got wind of it. The organisation mouths platitudes and acts only when it has to.
But why did it have to Jack?
of course you will say, i would say that, and it is true, if mastermind were still in operation my special subject would be workplace infidelity in Melbourne 1980 to 1996.
Didn’t Gillon McLaughlin come out and make some noises about equality and diversity? That would sound better if he hadn’t had to just bullet his diversity manager.
Harumphing noises from the couch here this morning, along the lines of “bloody footballers, never changes”. But this is not Rugby League we (she) are talking about here!
Raiders won last night (just – their first golden point win in four tries this year) First sporting bright spot for me for around six weeks – literally.
that’s the problem i think, they talk all this bollocks about values and carry on like it is a church not a footy comp, while ignoring that AFL is a community wide sport, it has to find a place for all manner of people and views, and a lot of folks don’t much care to be preached at.
Well Jack, maybe the media should think about what they are doing? As I have already said, these are not the first, nor will they be the last, to have an extra marital affair. It’s nobody’s business other than theirs. Doesn’t matter what job one is in.
