In relative terms, Bill Shorten, Labor leader since September 2013, has lived a charmed existence. Until he took the job, Labor leaders had a life expectancy in the big seat up the front that was measured in months, not years.

Reports of cracks emerging between Shorten and his frontbencher Anthony Albanese emanate from a speech Albo made to the Transport Workers Union in Western Australia in which he claimed a victory over the government’s budget. The Turnbull government, Albanese said, had shifted towards Labor policy and platform and this should be celebrated.

Meanwhile, his leader was running around telling anyone who cared to listen that the budget was not a Labor budget at all.

Given leadership spills or even the hint of them are a drug of addiction to many in the media, the clear contradictions caused a stir.

Appearing on the Nine Network’s Today program, Albo’s segment counterpart, Liberal Christopher Pyne, delighted in turning molehills into mountains. But Albo was having none of it and turned to a politician’s quick and easy answer when confronted with a difficult question.

After 146 years the Ringling Brothers, and Barnam & Bailey Circus shuts down. I should have taken the opportunity in the three years their Clown College was headquartered in Baraboo, Wisconsin (home of the Ringling Bros.) and added a cool line to my c.v.

Congratulations to Macca on a magnificent win in the EPL footy tipping.
Liverpool into Champions League next season.

    • Milton says:

Yes, well done Macca on a convincing win. And thanks to Tracy, the runner up, for running the show and Chelsea for stealing the show.

      • Jack The Insider says:

I will be in next PL season and will lose horribly.

        • Tracy says:

Macca’ s first season Jack, he won by 17 points.
My AFL has gone to pot.

          • Jack The Insider says:

Mine’s not doing any better, Tracy. Very even season. Technically 17 teams can make the finals at round nine. Haven’t seen that for a long time. The dominant clubs over the last ten years – Hawthorn, Cats, Swans, Eagles are in the mix but no one sweeping all opponents aside.

          • The Outsider says:

Is this the same Macca who put a “lazy $1,000” on John Howard to win the 2007 election?

    • Mac says:

Thanks for the congrats. I honestly do not know the name of one player in the EPL. If you look at my AFL tipping you’ll see that if I do know a bit about the game I’m hopeless! Being a Tigers fan doesn’t help.

Well done & thanks Tracy for running the comp.

The Outsider, no it wasn’t me who backed Howard. I like a punt but $1,000 bets are way out of my league.

Rudd had the outrageous chutzpah and innocence to try and tax the big gunboaters. And the rest is history!
What was he thinking? The wrath of God has nothing on the hurt outrage of the big miners and media minions. And the forelock tugging vassals of the tribute state attatch like limpets to the hue and cry! Reminds me of the hysterics of the cadres screeching and waving their little red books. “Rudd bad! Rudd bad!”

Never mind that. You have to wonder if the big arms deal with the Saudis has an element of blackmail in it. No doubt the US arms suppliers will take the Saudis to the cleaners on the deal but this is sick.

And who exactly is funding ISIL?

  • Milton says:

the alleged drug mule is now getting headlines as being a sex worker. Heaven help the innocents and I include the sex workers. What tawdry, irrelevant tripe. Unless you are perceived as a hottie, as a few on here have mentioned.

    • Not Finished Yet says:

Exactly Milton. Once someone has fallen out of favour it seems they are guilty of everything. What an irrelevant photo. Now, a photo showing the woman’s face may have been of some value, but a photo of her breasts? Perhaps it’s all true, perhaps it isn’t, but that photo is not evidence.

Regardless of who is in the job the toxic coalition do not develop policy rather they wait for a problem or create them then come up with usually the worst option to deal with it after it has been through the ideology mixer. Reading the comments here and on the other side just proves how wilfully ignorant and toxic the coalition and its supporters are. The country needs proactive leadership not regressive reactionary ideology.

    • Razor says:

You mean reactionary ideology like banning live cattle exports………..

      • Dismayed says:

I know QLder’s are slow but you take the cake. Got anything else you want to drag up from say 1952? The fact you support another pathological liar like dutton tells the world all they need to know about you. I am with B’man I hope to see him lose the seat at the next election, even if it to a phony freak. people like dutton and you are the very problem this world needs to address. you are No better than any other intolerant zealot in fact you are worse because you have had the opportunity to live I in Australia and yet you choose to live in 1950’s white intolerant wilfully ignorant ride on the sheep back and burn the coal because “we always done it like that” Australia and support ideas and ideals that were wrong back then and are even more so today.. You continue to make us all sick. the blog was very pleasant without your stain.

    • JackSprat says:

Any clues where we can find “proactive leadership”.
I have run out of rocks to look under.
      How’s the reading going?

      • Dismayed says:

JS you could not find your arse if your head was not stuck up it. You are just projecting again that you do in fact live under a rock. You got nothing.

  • BASSMAN says:

I don’t care who wins the next election. I have only one goal in life….to see Dutts lose his seat on the beat. That would make my day (and nite!). A truly cruel, evil, conniving, lying individual.

Oh and just in passing the Looters have just broken another record. The Australian Office of Financial Management has updated the data on gross government debt level. It has hit a new record at $493.8 billion. Since 2013, The Looters ‘policies’ have added a rib-cracking $220 billion in just 3 years and 8 months, and all of this in a climate of decent global economic growth, a lower Aussie dollar and record low interest rates. The Looters are a few weeks away from having a half a trillion dollar government debt party.

Rudd was definitely a prat and had some reason for debt….to save us from the GFC and massive unemployment. The Looters have no excuse for tripling the deficit since Rudd and having unemployment of 750,000. Unemployment got to 4.9% under Rudd something the Looters will never see. That was in tough times. Just imagine this lot trying to govern during the GFC. Gawd!

    Oh…nearly forgot…..our grandchildren.

    • Razor says:

He’s a good man. You should meet him Bassy you would like him. He’s part of the team that saved a heap of people from drowning.

      • BASSMAN says:

He is also part of the team that caused hundreds to drown starting with the SIEVX and those that would NOT have drowned if Abbott had allowed Malaysia to take refugees who by his own admission has said was a huge mistake carried out purely for political gain.

        • Razor says:

Abbott did not say that at all. When his statement is not cherry picked and taken in context he says he should have let it go ahead to watch it fail. Nothing about it being the solution just a political mistake. Nice try Bassy.

I didn’t get to 100, but managed about 70. You seem to appreciate any instrument well played. This trio turned up on the David Letterman Show in 2011, and are still gaining fans. They have revived Bluegrass. The Mazzone brothers, stage name Sleepy Man. Watch Jonny on the ‘jo. He’s extraordinary. Tiny hands.

Rudd was Billy McMahon’s love child. Stupidity must be genetic. They tie for Gold in the Mens Open Flipstick event.

  • Henry Blofeld says:

You would have to be a “few shillings short of a pound”, Mr Insider, or an ego maniac or both, to allow yourself to be filmed as Rudd did in this short clip. He was looking right at the camera so knew he was being filmed and swearing too. This was when he was PM!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeF41_coSX8

    • Milton says:

Kevin was never short of a shilling or a pound when he had the keys to the treasury, Henry. God those were the days when come xmas time one had only to check the bank balance and discover that the munificence of Rudd had paved the way for coin to be provided so us drunks and gluttons could eat and drink well and still provide the family with a flat screen tv so as to see his moon faced, albino head in all it’s glory. Lordy I miss those days almost as much as Uncle Harvey Norman and Uncle Dan Murphy. Not to mention the high humour and farce that his crowd provided for us on a weekly basis.
And to think some otherwise sensible persons would have the temerity to compare him with Abbott – the man that, single handedly and Moses like, stopped the boats.
And on the subject of albino’s, that Ass(ange) has made another brief foray in that bright English sunshine. The lad has probably developed Stockholm syndrome, whilst spending his days watching all the tiny house tv shows. Surely the big open spaces of Australia wouldn’t be good for him.

  • Henry Blofeld says:

“The boats will be back under Bill Shorten, no matter his denials”, so says the astute Peta Credlin, Mr Insider. Now I wonder does she have “anyone” in mind who will “Stop the Boats” and who is available for the PMship right now? Lets hope not.

And one for you Henry. This has been kicking around for a few years. You wouldn’t expect to find this reported in the mainstream press so it’s not possible to say it is true until it is officially approved as true, and deemed appropriate information for the little mushies.

        http://worldnewsdailyreport.com/chinese-lunar-rover-finds-no-evidence-of-american-moon-landings/

Maybe the Chinese are trying it on too? I’m curious about the weathering of the rocks in their piccies but I suppose micrometeorites and intense solar could achieve a similar result to terrestrial weathering.
Saw a good header the other day
“Congress Presses For US to Fake Another Moon Landing.”
And watch the full version of that clip you put up. “I cant believe we are on the effing moon…….. ”
Some interesting footage in that one.

        • Henry Blofeld says:

Dear Mr Baptiste, Yutu did not close to any Apollo Landing site and experienced mechanical problems early on. Enjoy the lovely Chinese music on this most informative clip. Cheers.
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dMd_-CudJc

          • Jean Baptiste says:

That’s absolutely right Henry. The mission could not have landed anywhere near any Apollo artifacts, there are none on the moon, they were all 380,000 kilometres away on a film set right here on the home planet.
Go through your marvelous photos and look for the dead giveaway of crude frontal projection, a distinct break line.
