Donald Trump’s Mexico wall: Here’s a little context …

The Donald said he was going to do it and now he is.

The Great Wall of the Rio Grande, the Trump Wall will stretch almost 2,000 miles (3,100kms) from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico, putting a gleam in the eye of graffiti artists everywhere. Banksy is said to be drooling in anticipation.

The estimated cost of this stunning feat of architecture is anywhere between $10 and $20 billion depending on who you listen to. Construction time is also a bit of a back-of-the-envelope exercise but by the time an exhausted bricklayer slaps the last bit of mortar on it, it is probable Donald Trump will be around 90 years of age.

In centuries to come anthropologists will marvel at it and wonder what far-sighted genius brought it into existence. Maybe even an old shyster like Erich Von Daniken will propose some unlikely theory that the Trump Wall was built by God who arrived by spaceship with the blueprint and a couple of trillion tons of prefabricated concrete.

You say in your full column, Mr insider “The Sinaloa have been known to use submarines, commercial and private aviation and vast networks of tunnels to get the gear out of Mexico and into the US and its insatiable appetite for drugs.” In that case the Trump Wall is almost obsolete before its built. I am sure Donald knew that and may have some other “motive” for mooting this mega billion dollar project?

  • Jean Baptiste says:

    Very amusing.
On the pro side, it’s little different to p*ssing the public purse up the wall up the wall on projects like the JSF. Except the redneck component in wall building will be greater, you haven’t been forgotten Bubba, but I suspect it would make sense for Haliburton et al to hire Mexican labour.
One assumes they will have the sense to stand off a few metres but enterprising Mexicans should make a motzah out of pilfered bricks anyway.

Negatives. It’s the stupidest idea that narcissistic twat has come up with yet. Sabotaging it and having the border force running around like chooks with their heads cut off over a 3000 kilometre stretch responding to triggered alarms will become a national sport. In the chaos bright lads with ladders, hang gliders and God knows what else should be able to surmount the ramparts with aplomb. It’s not exactly Alcatraz.

    • Carl on the Coast says:

JB – Yeah, everyone knows that most of those poor, desparate Mexicans with their backsides out of their pantalones have a hang glider in their kit.

It’s not exactly rocket science me old mate. eh.

    • Henry Blofeld says:

Its “balls to the wind” for our new US President Trump Mr Baptiste and I can see you are starting to warm to his efforts to make America great again and perhaps drag us along with them. I did think though “narcissistic twat ” was a wee robust perhaps you could tone that rhetoric down a bit my good fellow/

  • Henry Blofeld says:

Avocados, Mr Insider, look like becoming a quick casualty of the Great Wall with Mexico supplying lots to the USA as the attached article tells us. As an Avocado fancier myself I would be most concerned if I lived in the US. On a serious note you have to give it to Trump he is trying to do what he said he would do at the election unlike so many Pollies who quickly renege on so many election promises.

    • X says:

Avocado farmers in Mexico are causing enviro degradation by chopping down trees to plant avocadoes. Trump will inadvertently save the earth with this wall. The wall will be the greatest planet saving scheme in history. Not only will it stop the peons from knocking down trees in Mexico, and prevent whales from colonizing Arizona, it will form a useful windbreak and stop hurricanes from spilling out of the Gulf of Mexico into … er … Canada. Canadians are so grateful they want to re-name it The Gulf of Trump. I’m all for it.

    JB & Bassy:
Wandering around Salamanca on a beautiful afternoon here, I nearly got bowled over by Senator Abetz, hurrying along, looking serious.
I thought of brightening his day by introducing him to you two – but I wasn’t sure you would cope – so I didn’t. 🙁

    • Razor says:

That’s a chance you’ll never get again Yvonne! Considered yourself chastised 😂

      • Yvonne says:

It was 3.30pm. Maybe he was dashing back to the office after a longish lunch? After all he hasn’t got much to do these days – and it was a gorgeous day here to sit at a pavement café down at Salamanca.

        • Razor says:

If it was a real FRIDAY lunch Yvonne he wouldn’t have been on the footpath at that early hour! God how I miss those lunches………far too responsible now 😩……. well maybe 2 or 3 times a year I fold 😝

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Whenever someone mentions Eric, Gough’s great line “in your case we should make it retrospective” comes to mind.
      He’s an eminently suitable case.
Both Bassie and I, half asleep, could handle Abetz, so by all means introduce us. We promise not mention Uncle Otto.

    • BASSMAN says:

But wait on…he is despised in his own party!

  • Wraith says:

He’s so much fun to watch Jack. Every morning I wake up and expect someone to have shot him in grand American fashion. Give it time I suppose.

  • Penny says:

Gong xi fa chai. I thought that was relevant seeing as we were discussing China and Donald Trump. I think it is no coincidence that this is the Year of the Rooster

    • Jack The Insider says:

Happy CNY. My Chinese mate has a stack of hell money and will be burning it over the weekend in between feasting. It sounds like fun.

      • Gryzly says:

Fun, at my joint not only do we have the hell money, we have a cardboard villa complete with car, paper suit and tie ensembles and a lovely ball gown. The good thing is that the kitchen is humming and I get to eat more pork dishes than you can poke a stick at. The Government cancelled all the fireworks for both New Years events but must have spent it on avgas as there has been a hell of a lot of air force planes practising recently. What that means I have no idea but local dislike of all things Chinese (with the exception of CNY) is amping up. Chuc Mung Nam Moi!

    • darren says:

My missus speaks guangdongese/Cantonese, Hokkien, mandarin, and English (her worst language). Cantonese is a bloody ugly language and the Hakka dialect is even worse. The only good bit is the characters are the same in all of them (barring the use of non simplified characters). There is a famous description of how Cantonese sounds but it is unprintable. It involves 2 ducks, a bag and a sex act…

So, in the most beautiful of languages: xin nian kuala!

    • darren says:

      Damn that spell correcter! Kuale!

  • Rodent says:

Bloggers , please read Col Allen NY POST who knows and golfed with Trump for 16 years knows him like the back of his hand . He was very direct , sometimes critical of Trump but says all the business ventures and teams around him has made him the billionaire he is today , He knows how to tame down an enemy putting them back into reverse . He can inject into the business world like no one elese can , I have many quotes but won’t bang on at this early stage on Jack. I have the Australian two weeks back , still here on heaps of questions and answers Col Allen gave . As I said , will judge him 12 months times and report on him.
BTW Mexico has massive population in more strife with poverty and corruption then America will ever be, with less resources and greater dangers soon to hit them not having the freedom and land to provide produce being a mountainous country.

    • Jack The Insider says:

I read recently from a trusted business associate of the Donald that he needs someone to say ‘no’ to him, explain why and Trump will accept that and move on. All part of the street corner psychobabble, I guess. The wall is ridiculous, little more than a symbol with no great affect or benefit but some of the reporting of Trump’s presidency to date has been speculative and rather silly.

    • Bella says:

You can judge Trump in 12 months Rodent but not me.
In less than one week the Trump administration has declared war on hard-won environmental protections, starting with their scrapping of the alternate route for the Dakota Access pipeline which will affect the water supply for the Standing Rock Sioux tribe who fought long & hard ably supported by people power, which resulted in a great win.
Trump’s attempt to muzzle the Environmental Protection Agency and anyone who is employed by a government agency, including climate scientists, who don’t agree with the wholesale destruction of years of work, has already sparked outrage across the world.

Now this disgusting excuse for a ‘leader’ has come out & pledged support for all hunters, be they recreational, trophy, big game, endangered species or Japanese dolphin killing sickos, Trump’s right behind all of them. His sons must be enchanted.
“We will be protecting our hunters, they love hunting, they love the outside.”
So I don’t give a flying fig if you call me names like ‘hater’ or a ‘grubby feminist’ or think you have the right to be telling me to ‘ fall into line’ by giving this disturbing human being some time to prove himself, then don’t hold your breath Rodent cos that ship has already sailed.
That guy is dangerous & he won’t change.

As for First Lady Melania, why oh why would anybody, even those ‘hating Fem Bots’ you love to denigrate, choose to pick on her, when those of us in the very real new world are just hoping her husband doesn’t suddenly throw a hissy fit & use those nuclear codes.

    • Razor says:

A report or a peer reviewed study. There is a difference.

      • Dismayed says:

Your cons have tried to wreck the CSIRO so you just dismiss their work. Get out of your echo echo echo chamber. You continue to dismiss that which does not reinforce your bias.

      • Dismayed says:

Gee I see the price of power in Queensland continues to outstrip SA and again looking at a $2000 per mwh spike this afternoon. How can this be solved? Oh yes completion through renewables, cheaper to build, cheaper production and less emissions to boot along with creating more jobs. But it does seem that conservative no longer favour competition or markets.

        • Lou oTOD says:

Here’s a simple equation for you sunshine. Queensland has reliable, regular power supply, even with above normal weather events, such as Brisbane storms a couple of weeks ago. South Australia, the lights go out as soon as God farts.

Then there’s your personal experience with dimmers.

          • Dismayed says:

LoTOD again you jump in to attack without knowing the story and highlight your ignorance. The Queensland weather was nothing like what Adelaide experienced at least 3 times. 100km/h winds compared to 150km/h winds makes a big difference The coal industry is subsidised and there is a lack of competition in Queensland which has forced it power prices up this summer. For lengthy periods double that of the rest of country. Which was the original point of my comment and link before your mate Razor tried to change the issue and average out over the last 12 months. Which was just a couple of $ difference anyway. He could not refute my facts so wanted to mislead and change the discussion. My initial point on the last blog was that Queensland have had very expensive electricity with coal and gas and very little renewables due to No Competition. It is more expensive to build new technology coal fired generation, banks wont touch them, The government would have to continue to subsidise them. Razor screams about renewable paying their own way but is happy for coal to continue to be subsidised. Note his support of $1 billion to the Adani venture which will probably only ever be a very expensive subsidised train line to nowhere. Again Queensland power has been more expensive most of the time since November.) over twice the cost of power in SA. (My initial comment and link spoke about summer prices, Razor did not like this and wanted to change the discussion to suit himself as usual) SA power generation is reliable. It is the transmission lines which have been knocked out 3 times due to sever weather events. Read that line again reliable generation, problems with transmission. The private company that runs the transmission lines has failed to maintain and improve by putting line underground etc. You have again prove you have an issue with me which is YOUR issue. You are wrong as usual because you like Razor want to change the discussion to suit yourself. When you and Razor are gone the world will continue to decarbonise power generation and we will look back and deplore why we had to wait for a generation to move on before we could improve the planet and utilise newer better technology. Find out what a discussion is about before wading in to attack.

        • Razor says:

So let’s average everything out and have a look at the figures shall we. This link from an official site might help us.

          https://www.aer.gov.au/wholesale-markets/wholesale-statistics/annual-volume-weighted-average-spot-prices

          • Dismayed says:

Razor, see the above comment you know my first comment and links on the last blog were about prices now and since the start of Summer and November. You didn’t like the fact so you tried to use figures you like over a longer term. The fact remain and will not change in Queensland. No competition to coal and gas has created large price increases for long periods double of the rest of the country and will continue to do so. Renewables are cheaper and will be increased going forward and will help stabilise prices. You and coal are last centuries products and are being phased out for newer better technologies for the sake of generations to come. Stop trying to question facts you don’t like or change the discussion to suit yourself.

          • Razor says:

The figures are for the YTD. Highlighting a spot price means bugger all to any consumer if in the end they are paying considerably more you buffoon. It’s you who is cherry picking a price to suit your argument instead of looking at the total picture.

    Jack the Insider .
Sorry off blog, but you asked me a question on Melania Trump.
Go to Corrine Barraclough DTele ,..article title,..”First Lady Fires Up The Fem-Bots.'{Melania hated for not been one of them} .There is heaps of quotes and words like she is miserable in her marriage , CNN and NY Post all having their crap boasting as it says from the far left wing screaming media, now being mean spirited .Washington Post took a dim view they wanted a female president,. Another took a swipe at her while she Melania can speak 5 languages .
Another saying thats a face of an abuse women, Washington Post angry saying she does not fit the First Lady and in a miserable marriage , More there .
Sorry Jack off topic but you replied so thought must answer.
    cheers

Beginning to look like he’ll back down from outrageousness when confronted. Theresa seems to have gone okay. He likes to be in control – or at least think he is in control.
A lot of bluster – but hopefully things will calm down and some reason will prevail.
Needs careful handling – even perhaps reverse psychology?
