Canberra is a huge sausage-making machine and, as they say, no one would want to eat a sausage after seeing how it’s made.

Last week, the government finally got its backpacker tax legislation through the Senate. It was excruciating to watch, a form of political torment with every man Jack and woman Jill in the parliament engaging in an unseemly auction.

Ultimately, the Turnbull government sat down with the Greens and came up with a 15 per cent tax on backpackers working their way around Australia. In order to get the deal done with the Greens, the government offered a $100 million funding boost to Landcare Australia.

I hope there were no causalities during manoeuvres, the right wing shock jocks would screaming for a Royal Commission. Wouldn’t they?

I have no idea who’s up who, who’s paying the rent who is chummy with who and who is related to who in QLD/ NSW but I had a good chuckle when I learned that Bob Nioa is the son in law of Bob The Mad Hatter. The former it is said has thousands of back orders for the Adler. Not that anyone would be influenced, it’s just funny, I can’t get Dale Petersen out of my head whenever The Hat gets mentioned. Cop the look of panic in the horses eyes when Dale reaches for the lever action! Is that a whinny or a Winchester?

A quick check around the sites reveals some of the “Oz Preppers” , (Crikey Moses!) are slavering for that Adler “equaliser” . What a ringing endorsement! I have a faint suspicion those quaint types are dreaming of Rambo more than planning popping off a few bunnies.

    Give ’em heaps.

We are in the midst of a climate emergency yet Turnbull is letting his happy clapper deniers on the backbench call the shots. He appears to have become quite old in his short time & even displays the body language of a man beaten down it seems by the internal machinations of his own party who have no idea what they’re doing from one day to the next.

“In politics, the public, they will never forgive you if you are seen to believe in nothing.
If you believe in nothing, why are you there?”
Malcolm Turnbull (before he was PM)

    Well. No wonder.
Put up a fight or go home Malcolm Turnbull, it’s not like you can’t afford retirement.

JTI, the title seems to imply that that the Green army has a problem with New Age guys. Gutless bastards are only doing that because they know they won’t hit back.

Most amusing, COHD. Off topic, I took a look at the stumps score in the Pakistan v Cricket Aust XI three-day-nighter. Our young top order looks a little brittle. Mohammed Amir with 3/3. Ouch. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/1070044.html

In other sad news, Greg Lake, guitarist, singer, and songwriter for King Crimson and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer has died from cancer a mere nine months since his former bandmate, Keith Emerson’s suicide.

This has certainly been a bad year for music, and I don’t think 2017 will be any better as us boomers and the members of the silent generation death rates accelerate. The rock n roll lifestyle wouldn’t help, not just the booze and drugs but the grind of touring…

Not too many of those type in the Abbott’s Green Army CoHD. It’d be all yelling, 5 mile runs, cold showers and the exchange of body fluids in the dead of night!

It is becoming the norm of Australian politics – announce something and then pull the plug and to hell with the collateral damage.

They must all be taking lessons from those dimwits in South Australia.
