Malcolm Turnbull’s ticking clock — Newspoll noose around PM’s neck

Another year, another polly on the ropes over expense claims. Sussan Ley has been on the receiving end of a media pommeling and the collective wisdom is she’s been a naughty minister. She has been dispatched to Coventry and the view is she should settle down and grow accustomed to her new home.

As an observer of various entitlements farragoes over the years, I think Ms Leys’ spending puts her in exalted company, somewhere between Peter Slipper and the guv’nor, Labor’s Mal Colston. Spending $21,000 in a week or so on transport is extraordinary. I didn’t even think it was possible. With those frequent flyer miles, you can forget about the carrot sticks and chardy in the Qantas club. It’s foot-long lobster subs and Moët by the schooner. Hell, they’ll get you your own plane. Maybe even let you fly it.

The Minchin Protocol always sounded like a bad novel and now as it comes to its denouement, it is about as satisfying as an EH Holden Mechanics’ manual or anything knocked out by Clementine Ford.

I read in that link on Julie’s non-attendance at the polo that she had agreed to be dressed by Hugo Boss for the occasion.
God. This gets worse by the day. She spends a fortune on clothes – that’s okay, it’s her money – so why is she being a marketing tool for Hugo Boss on this occasion?
Not surprised she decided not to front up and instead do her job (meeting with Abe). The press would have had a field day.
Do we have to wear designer to check out your ponies, JB?

    • Penny says:

Yvonne, pardon my ignorance but isn’t Hugo Boss mainly a men’s designer? Maybe she was going to wear a bloke’s suit…

I do know Ms. Bishop refused to wear the clothes chosen for her for a fashion shoot for the WW, because she said she had her own style, thank you very much…..

      • Mack the Knife says:

Hugo Boss made great uniforms for the Nazis. Those black SS outfits were quite fetching.

        • Uncle Quentin says:

Interesting to note however, British khaki battledress tops looted from supply dumps in the fall of France were highly prized by German servicemen for their warmth and durability. The Germans may have looked smart compared to their British counterparts, but the Brits had the better clobber where in counted.

I believe I have fixed the comments section so they will now show the most recent first. Let me know how it goes.

          • X says:

JtI, the comments work fine. I thought I had a bug firstly, but soon caught on. Your blog is a treat. Theres good exchanging of ideas and the people are (mostly) very pleasant. I cant say the same for the blogs at The Australian. They remind me of some boyos from my youth. Theyd rather fight than think.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Wear what you like but don’t expect anyone to talk to you if you’re going to turn up in “off the peg” rags from Target or some little social climbing boutique. It’s the polo for Christ sake!

If you lived in Kuiwait Penny ,you would know some history of the aggressive Sadam invasion that gave our coalition forces reason to move in .
Bob Hawke was PM at the time (mainly Iraq Iran) allowing Australian forces in as part of the coaltion forces .
Kuiwait had to have democracy installed as part of the great oil trading that must continue to supply oil that was much need. HOWARD later entered us into the war on Kuiwait again which wiped out Sadam and his vicious killers with coalition back in business to stabilize the ME . Sadam when invaded Kuiwait later ,1000s of lives were lost .American coalition forces went hard ending this Kuiwait war. Both Bob Hawke and John Howard involved ,while Hawke involved inthe Iraq Iran war which was an earliertime.

Hopefully you’re now enjoying the delights of the NBN, JTI?

  • Henry Blofeld says:

Hey Big Spender and yes you Finance Minister Mathias Cormann who splashed a whopping $23,000 on numerous trips to Broome with the Missus – all Taxpayer $$$$$$$$$’s of course, what else Mr Insider. This must stop for ALL pollies . Many hardworking and stressed Aussie workers pay their tax dutifully only to see it frittered away as big Mathias has done, he being no example to anyone at all on money management. Shame Mathias shame you goose!

      Henry

Fairfax is cherry picking the offenders as the leftist rag usually does.

It does not make what he did right but gee, I wish I could see the full story on all the claims.

By the way, his claims were over over 5 years.

Do that to some of the other on all sides of politics and I bet you would find some7 figure sums.

      • Henry Blofeld says:

As I have said on numerous occasions Jacky ALL Pollies must stop this, said so only yesterday. Its worse tho when idiots like Cormann who preach to us all from a position of power and influence behave in this way. Shame on ALL pollies who are wasting Taxpayers money, Liberal, Labor, Greens etc etc. If an election were to be held today be blowed if I know just who I would vote for from any political persuasion.

I knew Tom’s R late brother sadly gone few years back died young lived inCowra te us things occured in the family .
That tumor removed from his rocks was a media cover up not been the real story .
Tom was coaching Toowoomba when a young man was dropped by Tom from the team lacking performance .Later after training , all down at the pub.A pub fight broke out , the young man being dropped from the team decided to revenge on Tom kicking him in the rocks later a lump appeared and this was one side of his parts gone missing after surgery.
Interesting times , another used to suddenly go to bed and start screaming late at night leaving family running in .Tom then said ,”fooled you lot again”. A very unusual man .Another dropping his dacks up the back of the footy bus coming home fom Tamworth doing a big turd leaving a bus to stop and evacuate and no footy plays entered that bus after till a clean up was arranged.
    The world of Tommy terrific.

    Razor 1:10 PM

Received your details. Suggest your pseudonym “The Breaker” though romantic might be a bit intimidating?
We have a new listing ” Petite Piebald 7 hands high, adventurous, high spirited, seeks a stable relationship with nights of unbridled passion.”
Would you consider “Clancy” for introductory purposes?

    • Razor says:

Would Clancy Longfellow be acceptable? Do you have a picture? Nothing too risqué. I don’t want to be saddled with something I cannot open at work.

  • Milton says:

From now on Ms Ley will be known as Suss! The parents in my street could only afford one ‘s’ for their Susan’s.

    • John O'Hagan says:

Apparently she added the extra ‘s’ herself because she believed in some numerology mumbo-jumbo. Maybe that’s the reason for the extra ‘0’s in her expense claims.

  • Carl on the Coast says:

    BASSMAN ( Jan14, 2.35pm)

says: “Average household incomes fell. When Bush took office in 2000, median household incomes were $52,500. In 2008, they were $50,303, a drop of 4.2 percent, making Bush the only recent two-term president to preside over such a drop.”

    etc, etc, etc.

You appear to be attempting to close the book on the Bush legacy mate. Is that the final word on your recent study and research of Bushnomics and poverty? Your stats and commentary appear to be very impressive indeed.

It must have been a tedious, time-consuming slog for you to pull all that stuff together and comprehensively present it the way you have.

Correct me if I’m wrong Bassy, but it does appear to be virtually a mirror image of all the hard work Ronald Brownstein and Cameron Joseph presented in their paper on 11 September 2009.

    • BASSMAN says:

      Hmm
      Cherry picking again
      Out of all that
is that all you could dig up on me? One thing?
After your last effort(previous blog) re my 21 points this is even
      worse
You are embarrassing yourself. What a waste of a good brain Toaster.

An update on lily-livered Turncoat Dismayed. Gutless it is.
Our craven PM told Abe whaling was a “principal concern for Australia and other countries” to which Abe responded, “Regarding the fact that there are groups that conduct extreme acts to interfere with whaling, I ask for necessary actions to be taken as WE must not justify any act of violence.” Turnbull stated that he “understands Japan’s position”, whatever TF that means.
Perhaps our leader needs an MRI cos he’s missing a spine.
Japan’s got extreme nerve to front up here anyway whilst his serial whale poachers are presently in the SO Sanctuary in the business of violently harpooning intelligent mammals that writhe & scream for up to two hours before they succumb.

So nothing passed MTs lips like extremism by Japan, nothing about Japanese violence or Japan operating outside the law. Not a word.

Yesterday I learned the Greenpeace website is telling people they are down in Antarctica fighting whalers. They are not but 55,000 people ‘liked’ that they’ve moved on from petitions & rubber whale toys.
Greenpeace says ‘on their advice’ Turnbull made a “splash” with Abe & asked him to turn the fleet back! SS Captain Paul Watson has asked Greenpeace to assist us every year but they’re busy waving banners.
We await Turnbull’s orders from Japan.
    My best, Bella

    • Razor says:

Bella you have finally realised what many of us have been saying for years. Your first sentence has warmed my heart. Without doubt dismayed is a Lilly livered turncoat!

      • Bella says:

Dismayed knows exactly what that sentence means Razor.
We’re not all locked & loaded here with each other mate.
        Regards, Bella

        • Dismayed says:

Bella, Razor/Rowy is a troll and all he has is deliberately misrepresenting comments . He does not read what is written he reads into things what he wants to project. He is pathologically dishonest.

  • Milton says:

Regarding school uniforms, I’ve been wearing school uniforms, à la St Trinians’s or Appleyard College, in my spare time for years with no discernible ill effects. When i’m feeling more community minded I don my nurse or nun outfits (the latter has become something of a habit).

    • Henry Blofeld says:

Interesting dear Milton you sound like a chap who would enjoy a dashed good spanking or the likes. You and Mr Trump will get on like a house on fire buddy.

    • Razor says:

You can kiss a nun once Milton you can even kiss her twice but never get into the habit. (That was a dad joke dismayed)
