Humble servant of the Nation

Malcolm Turnbull: the Wile E. Coyote of Australian politics

As we sit and wait for news of the fate of the seven dual citizens as they traipse from their parliamentary offices with the woebegone air of condemned men and women to the High Court this afternoon, it is worth reflecting on the sort of week the government has already had.

There is a prescient sense of deja vu about it. The Turnbull government often has good Tuesday afternoons but come the weekend, the control of the agenda has been lost, a scandal has emerged, or infighting on the backbenches has turned into a donnybrook. The familiar theme is, in any one week of the Turnbull government, one step forward and three back.

Indeed it has happened so often the thought occurs that possibly Malcolm Turnbull isn’t very good at being prime minister.

The Queensland Greens want four more holidays. Great economic minds that they are, the give no estimate of the cost. A quick back of the envelope calculation by me, gives us a Gross State Product of about $1.1 billion per work day.

It seems there is a serious risk that our nation’s claim to be the most successful multicultural country in the whole wide world, with our genuine warm embrace of allcomers, is beginning to unravel; especially given the forensic frenzied distrust being heaped upon otherwise decent, every-day, hardworking Aussies who have chosen to place their bums on the red and green upholstery in the national capital and who may now somehow be in a position to seriously and dangerously upset the apple cart by even having the most slenderest genetic or heredity link with another country.

The meaning of loyalty and allegiance has been turned on its head and we are surely now exhibiting much more than what was once referred to as the “cultural cringe”.

    • Boadicea says:

This whole sorry business gets more absurd by the day, Carl.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that it’s not going away. The bloodhounds are on the loose. I found the publication of Frydenberg’s family documents particularly abhorrent. Is this what we’ve come to?
There is now a very peculiar vibe enveloping our government – both sides of the house – and it sure as hell needs to be dealt with.
Do the audit, sort out the resultant mess and get around to the more important stuff.

“Julie Bishop could lead Liberals to victory at the next election”, trumpets Catherine McGregor of the SMH, Mr Insider. Strewth well wheel her out and give her a go I say, Malom is totally stuffed for sure. The perennial 2IC could make it to OIC but I do doubt it. My money is on Bill Shorten to take the PMship when the election is called.

IPad glitched so don’t know if this was posted but….
‘’Just checked the British citizenship rules and as suspected my kids do not have British citizenship.
Section 2 (1) (a) of the British Nationality Act 1981 is quite clear, as is section 2 (1) (b) and section 2 (3) and section 2(1) (c) I would have had to have been in British/EU government employ in Australia for them to qualify.
If I can get that by Googling why could the idiots in Canberra’’

  • Henry Blofeld says:

Senior Liberal minister Josh Frydenberg seeks answers over possible Hungarian citizenship, Mr Insider. Time for an Audit of all MP’s no matter what party they do belong or a Federal Election. Turnbull cant keep hiding on this one, his government is in total disarray.

So the NEG will do nothing to help the Nation meets it Paris commitments the opposite in fact and Emissions have taken off again under the coalition after removing the ETS and
” nobody can deny the fact that Australia’s high population growth (immigration) policy will make it next to impossible to meet our targets nor safeguard Australia’s environment. Now razor, how can you claim the coalition stopped unfettered immigration when we know they have been running a big Australia policy bringing in unskilled workers to drive down wages, allowing Grand parent reunion costing the Nations $billions in Health and pensions costs and allowing 6 year olds in on “student ” visa’s costing more of the Education budget most of which goes to wealthy private schools thanks to the coalitions policies. As your phony friend would say Please explain?

So Turnbull says he is having the most fun he has ever had in his life. How arrogant is this guy when his govt. Is in turmoil?

Abbott, Andrews and Abetz are calling for a citizenship audit of ALL pollies….why? Because it would bring down the govt…just what Abbott and the Hard Right want. Turnbull? No way he wants a citizenship review of all pollies. He wants to continue ‘having fun’.

National Bank declares a $6.1billion profit….so what does it do to the hard working staff who got this for them? Sack 6000! George Carlin was correct.

Gina Reinhart, already filthy rich, increased her wealth by $8.1 billion this year. Somebody tells me why she
    needs govt. mining subsidies please!

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Umm Bassy…………. Do you understand why God created peasants, serfs, slaves and other assorted convenient types?
It’s all part of God’s plan. The peasants will be woken from their stupefaction when they are starving and wonder briefly “How the hell did we get here?”

  • Dismayed says:

I see Malcolm Roberts had an accused rapist who had been charged on his team for 5 months until disqualified from the Senate. People here will still support these phony fruit cakes.

  • Dismayed says:

JS and duttons mate re 5G ” Today’s 4G networks often use microwave links for backhaul, but in 5G networks where the quantity of data to be transferred will be higher, the backhaul will necessarily be optical fibre.”
“In the US and elsewhere, a number of broadband service providers are planning to build 5G backhaul networks using passive optical network (PON) technology. This is the type used in the NBN’s FTTP sections.”

    • Boadicea says:

Oh please, tell us who you feel “Duttons mate” is Dismayed. Have some courage sunshine.

      • Penny says:

Well there is only one person here that constantly tells us Dutton is a nice guy. I’m yet to be convinced by Razor’s assurances. He certainly doesn’t come across as such. I stated a long time ago that this mess in Manus Island will come back to bite us and that’s what’s happening right now

    • JackSprat says:

Lot of difference providing fast connections to a relatively few towers and every household.

  • Uncle Quentin says:

What a tangled web weave when we first practice to deceive…

So Stephen Parry confided to a “senior” cabinet colleague that his eligibility to sit in parliament may be in doubt, and was told to “sit tight”. Any ideas.

More nails in the coffin of this inept and hopeless government.
