A political schism once begun cannot be stopped. It develops a force of its own and moves in ways that cannot be controlled. The consequences can only be appreciated after the fires have been extinguished.
Scott Morrison will be sworn in as the 30th Prime Minister of Australia. The fight is not over. In many ways, it has only just begun. He won the spill 45 votes to Dutton’s 40. Julie Bishop was knocked out in the first round of voting. Morrison’s deputy is Josh Frydenberg.
Malcolm Turnbull’s delaying tactics allowed Morrison to assemble the numbers. He almost certainly did not have them yesterday.
n the comings days, expect the words “healing”, “repair”, “revival” and “restoration” to be vomited out of a thesaurus by senior Liberal figures. These words will be a nonsense, yet another damning exercise in the party’s obsession with introspection.

Well, well, well. Peter has a penchant for French au pairs. Another pops up out of the woodwork. Who would have thought!
If you’re a desperately ill person on Manus or Nauru seems it may help to have Gil Maclalhan as a personal friend.
Does he not see the awfulness of allowing a French au pair in illegally (i think she apparently worked as the au pair) to titivate a posh family and yet refuse entry to a dying child /children/ adults who are refugees in desperate need of medical attention.
Take a bow Peter – you can share my Wazzock of the Week award with Dismayed
Welcome to Australia foreign Au Pairs come straight in. Fuel for Bill Shorten to slam the Libs once again, Mr. Insider. Let’s hope Peter Dutton doesn’t “Duttonate”!

Another delusional article from Chris Kenny: https://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/inquirer/malcolm-turnbull-ignored-policy-critics-to-his-peril/news-story/b3bfeb02de1777cf84b45072273a2794
I guess we’ll find out the electorate’s verdict on the latest Coalition government soon enough. When we do, it could be baseball bats territory, a la the Abbott landslide in 2013. It seems that the most extreme election results generally happen when voters actively don’t want a party in power (the 2007 Rudd victory was an exception). While Tony Abbott, and his booster, Peta Credlin, are always willing to claim credit for the 2013 election result (when it was clear to everyone that the result was mainly function of the electorates distaste of Labor), they’re far less willing to accept responsibility for the Coalition’s sustained slide in the polls. I don’t think that there’s a more embittered commentator around than Peta Credlin.
She reminds me of Cruella from 101 Dalmatians
Well JB, as you say, the entertainment continues.
News this morning that the Lib vote in Wentworth has dropped from 63% to 39%. An indication of the fury of the voting public.
Its going to be an interesting by-election. Kerryn Phelps a good candidate – Independant.
Let’s hope Warringah residents are of the same mind. He needs to pay for this.
Turnbull is right – ex PM’s cannot hang around. Our plotters can be proud of their efforts.
Julie Bishop may be hanging around to perhaps assume leadership of the party in opposition. If I were her I’d be after the GG gig! Nice house, great tea parties, designer wardrobe etc. What more could a girl want !😉
BELLA:
Ooops, gave you the wrong figure re the ponies. It’s $639,000 plus $100,000 damages! Substantial loss.
I agree with Malcolm Turnbull’s view that ex PMs should leave politics and refrain from partisan political commentary. Bob Hawke, Paul Keating, John Howard and Julia Gillard have, for the most part, managed to do this.
Tony Abbott could take a leaf out of the books of those people, for the benefit of Australian polity and his own sanity and well-being. The only drawback is that he’d be virtually unemployable, but I’d imagine that he’d be on a pretty good wicket with his Parliamentary pension, so he wouldn’t need to work. What I found particularly hilarious was Abbott’s recent declaration that the era of political assassinations is over. This statement’s on a par with his one about the promise of a kinder, gentler polity. He’s done more to debase the polity than any other politician I can think of.
He could join the fire brigade for real. Or run Vinnies.

“cotc, it is yo who has not “cottoned on” your conservative delusions is wrong. Menzies started the Liberals to get rid of cons like you. ”
Oh dear Dismayed, talk about having two bob each way. Now you’re even quoting pig-iron Bob. You’re either a closet Liberal yourself, you’re talking in tongues, or there’s a spot of decreased activity in the frontal lobes mate. I suggest you settle down, have a little think about your attempted distortion and get back to me. No rush, take your time.
cotc. “Progressive Party” your delusions continue cotc. listen if you want to make a disparaging remark just do it. Your usual weak efforts just prove how out of touch with reality you are. But dont turn around like the rest of your cons mates here and dclaim to be the victim like you usually do. Move along cotc you are not worthy of my time.
“As Menzies put it in his slight memoir, Afternoon Light. We took the name “Liberal” because we were determined to be a progressive party, willing to make experiments; in no sense reactionary, but believing in the individual, his rights and his enterprise…” Progressive Party not right wing not conservative. You cant even revise your own history without FN it up. No Surprises.

News today that the ferry is being sued by the polo pony owners – for $64,000 odd I think I heard.
Autopsy results still not disclosed but the ferry is accused of negligence – seems the horses may have suffocated due to lack of airflow
Hey Milton, if you hadnt noticed I finished top of the footy tipping after home and away for the second year in a row, despite your kiss of death. Sure I’ve had to share it this year, but hope the finals are kinder than the total abomination of my last effort. Good luck for your efforts to knock off Tracy, if you know what I mean.
Politics has become far too boring of late, with the odds shortening, god forbid.
Roll on September, the mighty Eagles may give me some pleasure yet. It could also give Julie Bishop her second coming. Governor of WA most likely. The preciousness of Shorten over her mooted gig for GG in the face of history of favorites e.g. Bill Hayden shows how hipocracy rules in Canberra.
Malcolm pulling the pin is just his final act of petulance.
I had a look not long back Lou and you were up the top and shy on goal difference (I think). I was going to give you a giddy-up but held my tongue. Kiss of death, my arse, Lou – it was I that sharpened your resolve!! Well done and congrats and keep on keeping on.
Not keen on any of the WA or SA or NSW teams, so if it is not Carlton (it’s not!!) then i’ll back Geelong. And re Tracy, as much as I would like to knock her off, she is in a class above the Milt on so many levels.
ps I liked the ”odds shortening” dig, and that turd is the last thing our economy needs. Still a bit to play out before the Unions are back in power.
Banana’s are up!
