Much has been made of the Turnbull government’s successes in the last week of sitting in the federal parliament. Malcolm Turnbull is crowing but there is a broad understanding the hot ticket item, the ABCC legislation which passed through the Senate earlier this week, has been rendered a dud and that Derryn Hinch was played by the CFMEU to cough up concessions.
While being tricked by the CFMEU’s office bearers is hardly something anyone would want to put on their political resumes, Hinch would not see it that way. He may have his own explanation for it. I have no doubt he could spout some rationalisation at the drop of a hat. That is a talent he undoubtedly possesses.
More generally, I’d suggest voters should be leery of people like Hinch becoming representative politicians. Perhaps we should adopt a tacit rule that wherever a political party appears with the word ‘justice’ in it, that party is not worth the ballot paper it is written on. Where it appears featuring the name of a media personality before the word ‘justice’ you can put the house (or indeed the Senate) on it being a self-serving exercise in the sort of ‘look at me’ politics we have come to know and despise in this country.

I saw your note about the Arctic and your understandable concern for the reported rising temps in that part of the world. It reminded me of an ad I came across some time ago featuring a polar bear wearing sunglasses. You’d appreciate it because I think the message was related to AGW.

They have lost the plot. Totally. The country has not been adequately governed for 6 years This latest backflip on ETS or EIS, or whatever guise one cares to put on it, is positive proof that staying in power, or being PM, by far outweighs what is best for this country.

Considering the miniscule, largely ineffectual and comparatively low ‘nasty’ emissions that we contribute to the planet, combined with our plentiful supply of cheap energy, it is madness and folly to burden our citizens with expensive energy. Just adding on from the blog over judge Balla rulings, I will leave the womens names out in question due on going courts sittings .The case before judge Balla will show that the women not exposing idenity in court , has alarmed judge Balla and the large majority of Australians that this rubbish is not tolerated and Judge Balla is acting appropriately in” law and security” of this country and court system.

You’ll have to stop sending all this material you dig up about “how stuff works”, JB because I feel obliged to continue to respond even though I promised a few posts ago that my then comment would be my “last word” on this global sea rise conundrum. But I have to say the link to your 7/12, 6.39pm post about icebergs and submarines was both comforting and concerning as well as a tad condescending.
Whilst I already knew that “icebergs are large floating chunks of ice” as the atricle explains, I was encouraged to learn that “higher temperatures may be causing some floating icebergs to melt, but this will not make the ocesans rise.” (note that word ‘may’)
However, I’m a bit worried about all the submarines (and the other entire ocean going vessels for that matter) because your linked articlle does not fully explain whether the water they displace has any effect on sea level rises.
Perhaps Bassy knows something we dont, because he’s always banging on about the folly of our government purchasing them.

Great awards should go to judge Balla acting appropriately not allowing rubbish in our courts not allowing herself to be identified .Judge Balla worried on that burqa that a man maybe hiding with a weapon as primitive attitudes seem to abuse our identity system of arrivals who show no respect for the law of this country .

NUCLEAR POWER – maybe Trump will see the light on this?
No, he has already told the Oil industry and the Coal industry he will back them. Not sure how he will manage that as they compete in the same market but 10’s of millions of fools don’t seem to be too concerned about being lied to all the way along. trump and his cronies being appointed are very dangerous for the planet. Chad Sayers takes another 8 wickets for SA in the shield to roll NSW, Richardson 6 for the match has been getting better Joe Mennie? not many again. Jake Lehman in the runs again. Sayers must come in for the test against Pakistan. Cummins needs more time in the shield. Over the next couple of years we have a decent pace battery to utilise, Starc, Hazelwood, Sayers, Cummins, Pattinson, Richardson, Hastings ,Faulkner and a couple of others coming through. Queensland has a very good pace attack also. If we can pick batsmen with techniques we may continue to improve.

Hear hear, even John Holland has been taking wickets consistently since returning from Sri Lanka. Lyon bowled better in Adelaide than he has for years. I have been pushing for S. O’Keefe for several years he consistently out bowls Lyon when they both play for NSW. As for the batting I will stand by my previous comments about the lads from SA. Jake Lehman, Jake Weatherald and the young keeper Carey ( early days for him) are better than those recently installed (apart from Carey) they average more and score 50 or more more often. Renshaw wont last he puts too much pressure on Warner and his big lunge will get him in trouble. Khawaja should probably step up for now, Maddinson showed why he averages 34 . Hanscombe is the best of the three but will struggle in England and Broad will be loving the gate he leaves to bowl through and the Indian spinners will love that he cuts off middle stump. Chris Lynn got injured at the wrong time. Bailey has not produced enough and his new technique is very questionable. Cameron White is out of favour. I would have Maxwell at 4/5 in all formats. He has been harshly judged for being honest. But then again I like a guy that can offer flexibility. I think there will be more changes over the next 12 months.
