Humble servant of the Nation

Malcolm Turnbull: the Wile E. Coyote of Australian politics

As we sit and wait for news of the fate of the seven dual citizens as they traipse from their parliamentary offices with the woebegone air of condemned men and women to the High Court this afternoon, it is worth reflecting on the sort of week the government has already had.

There is a prescient sense of deja vu about it. The Turnbull government often has good Tuesday afternoons but come the weekend, the control of the agenda has been lost, a scandal has emerged, or infighting on the backbenches has turned into a donnybrook. The familiar theme is, in any one week of the Turnbull government, one step forward and three back.

Indeed it has happened so often the thought occurs that possibly Malcolm Turnbull isn’t very good at being prime minister.

No screaming headlines when power in SA falls to Minus, yes Minus -$42 per mw/h due to the amount of wind power being generated. why would that be?

It all a conspiracy say the cons. The country has just had it warmest winter ever again. Rainfall in Se Australia has dropped 30% in 30 years. But the minister for resources companies wants to use taxpayer money to build a coal fired power plant in a state where coal fired plants run on average at 45% generation capacity. We have news papers supporting the use of taxpayer money to fund a white elephant stranded asset that is not required all to save a couple of coalition seats. Disgrace. No surprises.

Gosh, seems Kimmie’s nuclear tests have destabilised an entire mountain, placing China at risk of radioactive contamination.

Remember, Jack, it’s not just “do not swear *at* a policeperson”. Don’t use bad language in her hearing, else she’ll tase & truss ya and being drunk is no defense.

Donald Trump’s willingness to throw former adviser George Papadapoulos under a bus is just further proof, if any were needed, of Trump’s total unwillingness to take responsibility for any of his problems.

I find it hard to believe that Trump wouldn’t have done anything, including turning a blind eye to colluding with a notionally hostile foreign government to win power.

It will be interesting to see if there’s any more to come from the meeting of Trump Jr with Russian nationals, the notional initial purpose of which was to discuss dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Robert Mueller hasn’t disappointed, so far.

    • Razor says:

Clinton has ‘Russian issues’ as well TO……

      • The Outsider says:

Razor – not a very good deflection attempt:

        (1) Neither of the Clinton’s are currently the POTUS (more’s the shame)
        (2) The US intelligence community have no doubt that Russians tried to influence the US election result in Donald Trump’s favour.
        (3) With regard to the Clinton uranium giveaway conspiracy theory, it’s just that.

So what? She isnt going to be impeached. Now if Donald is impeached, and that’s a small if, that’s news.

I told you before the election the devious Russkies replaced Donalds brain with that of a secret agent.
Don’t be surprised if Donald just disappears one night and is found a few days later wandering around very confused with some hurried suturing about his fat melon.
This sort of thing is a matter of deep concern for stable democracy.

Enjoying a week in London – partly for work and partly for a holiday with Mrs Trabvitch. Pity we have to put up with the flights… And harking to an earlier post on this blog, the Oneworld Sapphire Lounge in Qatar is ordinary… They have a separate Lounge for those flying Business Class, but QF Gold members cannot access it when flying down the back (unlike in most other airports where QF Gold members can access the business lounges even if flying Oneworld steerage).

Onto the real point of this. One thing about the poms is that they have a risque sense of humour. I always like to buy funny and risque Christmas cards (especially ones with double entendre), but there is poor choice in Australia. However, I have reached Nirvana in London, so will stock up. One such example that tickled my funny bone went a bit like this:
Person one – I’ve just bought a new Christmas tree.
Person two – Are you going to put it up yourself?
Person one – Definitely not, it’s going in the living room.
