Humble servant of the Nation

Donald Trump’s Mexico wall: Here’s a little context …

, / 24793 1,022

The Donald said he was going to do it and now he is.

The Great Wall of the Rio Grande, the Trump Wall will stretch almost 2,000 miles (3,100kms) from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico, putting a gleam in the eye of graffiti artists everywhere. Banksy is said to be drooling in anticipation.

The estimated cost of this stunning feat of architecture is anywhere between $10 and $20 billion depending on who you listen to. Construction time is also a bit of a back-of-the-envelope exercise but by the time an exhausted bricklayer slaps the last bit of mortar on it, it is probable Donald Trump will be around 90 years of age.

In centuries to come anthropologists will marvel at it and wonder what far-sighted genius brought it into existence. Maybe even an old shyster like Erich Von Daniken will propose some unlikely theory that the Trump Wall was built by God who arrived by spaceship with the blueprint and a couple of trillion tons of prefabricated concrete.

    Razor et al
I’ve been observing the life and habits of blowflies with renewed interest of late. It’s summer, things are heating up and the incidence of said creatures has become more noticeable.
Whilst it is immensely satisfying to roll up a newspaper and swat them off to oblivion, that is sometimes not so easy. They have a tendency to see you coming and take flight – and buzz somewhere else.
The next option us to try and switch off from that annoying incessant buzzing and simply ignore them – and after a while things go quiet – and one discovers the silenced remains in a miserable little heap when next vacuuming the carpets 🙂

    • Razor says:

      Yvonne,
Been having a problem with them myself they incessant little buggers. I think I will take your sage advice.

    • Tracy says:

We get inundated with bush flies at this time of year but I have discovered the little buggers are partial to a drop of Marsala. ………I guess somebody has to be .
I usually put a couple of inches in a small glass in a strategic spot and they dive in (literally) works for cockroaches too, they can spot a can of fly spray a mile off but can’t resist a tipple.

    • BASSMAN says:

Samer here…blowis have an uncanny sense of smell for certain foods, meat, cabbage, cauliflower and they seem
to sortie in a well organized attack on our kitchen and any food at hand.
By the way all I am thinking of changing my handle to THIS IS A BAD GOVERNMENT.

    • Lou oTOD says:

      Ah so Yvonne.

Noisy little buggers, persistently trying to fly through glass panes, risk avoiders and on the occasions they are whacked prove what a disgusting pile of crap they have inside.

Now let me work on giving one a name.

    • Razor says:

      Yvonne,
I have been told the particularly vile type that is common around these parts is a result of not enough variation in genetic material due to inbreeding.

    • JackSprat says:

Geez Yvonne, I kept reading to find out how you were going to entwine Dismayed in all of that – you missed a big opportunity

  • JackSprat says:

Watching the vitriolic dis-information emanating from the Lefties of the world during the Trump campaign and its aftermath, one could start to believe the conspiracy theories about World Governments, the conscious dismemberment of the nation state and a few others.
When beaten they just get worse.

    • Razor says:

It’s all very well financed and well resourced JS. Look no further than George Soros.

      • Razor says:

Old George invested a hell of a lot in a Hilary win which didn’t pan out. He will not be happy.

      • John O'Hagan says:

Oh, get off Breitbart, Razor! There are plenty of richer organisations than Soros’ spending money on far worse things.

        • Razor says:

Never been on Breitbart. But if you do a bit of reading you will see old George considers himself some sort of messianic character funding leftist organisations all over the world. Connect the dots and don’t forget the interference in the electoral process in this country. To the left apparently Putin is bad but George is good.

          • John O'Hagan says:

I have done a lot of reading on Soros and suggest you do the same, but try reputable, unbiased sources this time.

Soros is not a “leftist”. If anything he a liberal, perhaps even a neoliberal, who puts his money where his mouth is instead of where his interest lie. This seems to infuriate other neoliberals.

Soros’ politics were formed in the late 1940s while studying at the LSE under the philosopher Karl Popper, who espoused ‘Open Society’ liberal democratic ideals like transparency, tolerance of diversity and unrestricted critical thinking as bulwarks against tyranny. Once he started to make money in the late 1970s, Soros used it to help dissident movements in Soviet-controlled Eastern bloc countries including his native Hungary. His efforts had a significant impact on the transition from Communism and at that time he was a hero to the Right.

From the 90s he branched out into funding projects throughout the world with the continuing common thread of furthering liberal democratic values. When this began to embarrass Western governments as well, Soros became a bogeyman to the Right, especially to Fox News types, who invented the “shadow government” conspiracy which has propagated through the online conservasphere and which you seem to have fallen for.

A more reasoned, moderate right-wing critique of Soros is that he has tried to “privatize the dictator-toppling business” as Richard Miniter put it in Forbes. Soros gets plenty of criticism from the Left as well, for how he made his money and for being an apologist for free-market capitalism. Still, it’s a darn sight better than blatantly undermining democracy in pursuit of obscene personal wealth, like the Koch brothers and their ilk.

          • Dismayed says:

            JOH just smashed you razor.

          • Razor says:

            JOH,
Have you read any of George’s stuff? Especially the bits where he admits his messianic visions. Further the bloke admits he worked for the Nazi’s during the war. He’s Jewish. Enough said.

Your post also convieniently left out George’s business dealings so let me assist

The bloke enjoys being the puppet master and uses his influence to make money for himself. Do you know anything about Black Wednesday, in 1992 from memory? Soros single handedly devalued the pound by 20%. Any idea how that effected people’s lives?

Here’s a quote from the Guardian about what he thought on the subject; ‘I am basically there to make money. I cannot and do not look at the social consequences of what I do.”

Here’s a 60 minutes quote regarding what he later did in Asia.

‘I don’t feel guilty because I am engaged in an amoral activity which is not meant to have anything to do with guilt,” he said

He invests in instability because that his how he makes his money by analysing instability. Insyability leads people to bankruptcy and suicide.

He is heavily invested in green energy and stumps up the dollars to those who he knows will benefit his business interests. Have a look at how businesses linked to George benefited from Obama’s pregnancy.

He is now actively funding instability against Trump and I bet he’s set to make a fortune!

If the above isn’t subverting democracy to increase his personal wealth than I don’t know what is. You’re not the only one who can read JOH.

          • Razor says:

Damn IPad. I meant Obamas presidency but if the cap fits I suppose…….

          • John O'Hagan says:

The fact you have repeated the appalling lie that Soros assited the Nazis suggests that there is another site you need to get acquainted with: snopes.com.

As for your new-found concern about the negative human consequences of global capitalism, I totally agree. Welcome aboard, comrade!

    • Robin says:

Remember when Tony Abbot was elected in 2013. It was exactly the same from the usual suspects on this blog. The election of Trumps has seen precisely the same comments from the same people only the name has been changed. The lefties in this world must be very scared of change for the better

      • Razor says:

I certainly do Robin. Lefties hate losing. They just cannot imagine people don’t take their view if the world. They’re not big on democracy either.

        • Dismayed says:

Oh and ruling by dictatorial decree or executive order is democracy in action is it? You are being opened up like a can of worms, there are more holes in your alt right wing theories than in a tea bag.

      • Bella says:

Afraid of change for the better Robin?

The Trump Administration, as we speak, is preparing to invalidate, yes, invalidate one of the governments most powerful conservation tools the Endangered Species Act.
Only a madman would deliberately wipe out another species.

Trump wants to see if Bill Gates can help his government ‘shut down’, yes, shut down parts of the internet in areas of Trumps choosing. What?? Where is the Intelligence Agency that should be monitoring this nutter?

Red-neck US Senator Steve King has yesterday asked Trump to consider making dog-fighting legal.
For the better?? When is enough, enough?
I say men ( loosely) who want animals to tear each other to shreds for their sick social entertainment should first be castrated so they can never breed.

Call me a leftie, a greenie, a bleeding heart or whatever but I see the worst government in the history of the USA undoing hard won necessary legislation every single day and the end result is the building of what looks a lot like a revolution.

I’m now wondering how far ‘those in power’ will let him go before they…stop him.
        Bella

      • Dismayed says:

Oh yes and didn’t Abbott work out well. NOT. Trump has already made the world more dangerous.FFS.

Never mind the disinformation, the information about the turkey is disturbing enough.

    • John O'Hagan says:

So Theresa May, Bill English, Angela Merkel, John McCain, John Kasich, Lindsey Graham etc., not to mention Fox News, are “Lefties” now. I’ll be darned! What do you have to do to be right-wing these days? Oh, that’s right, make laws against unpopular religions. It’s all coming back to me now.

Interesting on cricket you mention, not long back me 58 received a call when a local team had 4 young ones decided to go to the beach leaving team numbers short . I was the illegal ring-in instructed to go under the name Danny when on the field and around the opposition when batting and fielding . It was awkward and nervous for me in a game of sledging while the batter the other end calling me Danny saying ,”cool it Danny cool it!”. They threw all at me possible while the final 6 I hit being 18 not out, gave our team on the sideline return fire with abuse winning the game. Talk about me nervous . This young generation now sledging ,when my early days was not on like this today. Must say it was there to be hit on the leg side.
    Cheers .

I see Sam Dastyari us concerned that he will not be welcome in the USA. Can Malcolm persuade the Don to let him in – and keep him? 🙂

  • Rodent says:

    Yvonne 10:59pm.
Amazing that game last night with the great champion Roger Federer edged in front of the great Nadal , what a pleasure seeing champions in action, while calls for Tomic and Kyrgios should watch these champions and learn the behavior standards we expect from them .
John Laws today after this A Mundine outburst , racist idiot bigot he is wanting the Australian flag burnt, says ..”Anthony Mundine should gather up his spear ,and head out to the desert where he should be.” He also continued to say ,..”Anthony should return all he has received from the public .” I gather the revenue gains would be a significant part of that.

    • Yvonne says:

Simple Rodent. I see Tomic has decided he doesn’t want to play for Australia despite the fact that Tennis Australia have probably spent zillions on the little creep. This is apparently his revenge because Tennis Australia have declined to dish out more zillions on his sister. And who could blame them. Tomic senior is still controlling his kids – and it shows.
Kyrgios is simply uncouth. Why Tennis Australia bother with him still is beyond me. They should boot him out of the squad until he picks up a phone and asks someone to be his coach and psychiatrist and give him a year or so to make up hid mind whether he actually wants to play tennis or go and be an idiot somewhere else.

  • BASSMAN says:

Best wishes for your next round. Bloody hell when you are finally cleared we all hope you takes some quality time off from work, shut the blog down for a month or two and enjoy yourself.

What a low act from Mundine. Ignoring the national anthem during his fight with Green. This is a bloke who lives like a white man, has all of the material things in life and shows no respect for what this country has given him and his people. If his culture is so important, why doesn’t Mundine retire to the bush and live his culture as a true Aborigine-give up his cars, air con, T-Bones and live in a humpy and dine on kangaroo. Then he would gain some respect.

He needs to be reminded the French were waiting in the harbour to claim this land (Laperouse). I don’t think his mob would have been taken kindly to having the Bikini Island bombed out of them! What if Indonesia had claimed Oz? I am sure the Aborigines would be much worse off. I hope he cops a hiding.

“….. Thinking people know your dictator trump is trying to undo all that has been accomplished in the last century….”.

    Dismayed,

    Hyperbole on steroids!!!

Now the duly elected President of the USA (not a Dictator) is you say trying to undo all accomplishments of the last 100 years – not 50 as previous?

Just think about what that assertion means. Undoing, aviation, pharmaceuticals, computers, radio, television, decolonization, the UN, expansion of World-wide education and health care, and the other 500 achievements listed in the Brookings Institution paper I referenced, which I guess you were to busy to read!

All in the first 10 days or so, within one of the most robust democracies on the planet – I don’t think such an assertion is credible!!

Get a grip Dismayed, it is going to be a long 8 years (yes ill-informed hyperbole such as yours is only going to cement Trump’s appeal in the ‘Red Swath of middle America’ – making it harder for the Democrats in 2020)!

    • Carl on the Coast says:

Most thinking people on here may get the impression that Dismayed runs rings arounf POTUS Trump in the bombast department, that’s for sure.

  • Henry Blofeld says:

They don’t come any better than ROGER FEDERER , Mr Insider, as he accepts his Trophy last night beating the great Rafael Nadal in 5 gruelling sets to win the Australian Open Tennis C’Ship and Rogers 18th Grand Slam victory in his star studded career.

How true, HB. Awesome game. They both deserve respect and accolades. played in a spirit of fine sportsmanship
Just hope kids watching are able to wipe memories of that nincompoop Kyrgios out of their minds and focus on this.

      • Henry Blofeld says:

Kyrgios and Tomic both shockers Yvonne, you could not remotely imagine either of them playing Federer or Nadal. Some fool even tipped Kyrgios to win the Aussie Open FGS!

        • Yvonne says:

Kyrgios has got the talent to be number 1. But he’s such a complete and utter idiot – and doesn’t want to play tennis anyway . I wish he would just bugger off. I can’t watch him. And he’s a bad, very bad role model for kids.

        • Robin says:

          Mr Blowfly
The most unfortunate thing is those two slimebags actually got more money for their non performance than many Australians earn a year. Too much treasure is payed to losers and not enough to winners
