Smoking out good government

jointDemocracy is a mad scientist, cackling away, laughing maniacally while the cathodes crackle and spark with animal electricity.

The results can be confounding. Sometimes functioning monsters are brought to life, sometimes they remain in repose but the formula invariably shows too much government is worse than none at all.

For the last 18 months, Americans have tapped into a particularly powerful lightning bolt. They had a couple of monsters to chose from. The Donald came up trumps, as we all know now. But away from the headline announcement, a whole lot of democracy went unreported or where it did get a mention it was of the postscript type.

    Looks good Jack

As a matter of interest, we know Milton got the last comment of the old blog but do we know who made the first comment ever on it and what it was?

    • Jack The Insider says:

Failed Comic’s comment (below, I think) cites the first comment I believe, TBLS.

I’m sorry I asked, now. Bit unfortunate. Ah well px and Steve, like small-pox, the Black Plague and Daniel Andrews’ chance at re-election, are now part of history.

  • Failed Comic says:

I must have spent too long at the bar in Darwin and got my Fridays wrong ’cause I thought today was the last day. And, to think I went all the way back to the beginning for some inspiration. What ever happened to px?

Is this supposed to be funny? Jack the Insider is a tapeworm.

But then it just got hurtful with:

Nasty stuff. I remember that. I couldn’t quite believe people could be so horrible online. Nine years later I know better.

    Testing …
I am not without scars on my brain and my body, but I can live with them. I still feel a shudder in my spine every time I see a picture of a Vincent Black Shadow, or when I walk into a public restroom and hear crippled men whispering about the terrifying Kawasaki Triple… I have visions of compound femur-fractures and large black men in white hospital suits holding me down on a gurney while a nurse called “Bess” sews the flaps of my scalp together with a stitching drill.
    Let’s see if any mark-up.
    Is this WordPress, Jack?

    • Jack The Insider says:

It’s all there, HU. The text sounds like a very good reason to prefer four wheels over two. Yes, this is a Word Press site. I still have a few things to do with it and if people would be so kind as to comment only in the current article, I’d be very grateful. There will be a new one up shortly.

    Ahhh, the deplorables win again

  • Razor says:

As many on the old blog know. A subject very close to my heart. Well done ladies and keep the pressure up! The killing on women and children is not acceptable in any culture.

  • Eccles says:

Gidday Jack, hope all is well with you. looking forward to the new site, although I will continue to be a subscriber.

    • Jack The Insider says:

I am very pleased to hear that, Eccles. I hope you and the fam are travelling well, too.

      • Eccles says:

Mrs Eccles is now well recovered from the hip replacement and back to swimming 1+ km at a stretch.. Last year’s leukemia is now a distant memory. Meanwhile, Eccles has begun the process of decommissioning lab equipment, in preparation for a more part-time research advisory role. More than 40 years of original research activity coming to an end. However, it’s not all bad, with some interesting projects in view, some closer to the theme of this discussion than might be expected.

  • Razor says:

Well Linz I think we’d both agree and claim a victory for the right!!!!!!

  • Razor says:

    Are we alive yet Jack?

  • Linz says:

    JTI,
While I was catching up with all the positive things that happened in my absence- the ending of this blog under ‘The Australian’ banner was not one of them. Still, looking forward to the new site (you nuked my comment there but I claim first post rights); East Berlin.

Good luck with your treatments & blogs,
    Linz

    • Jack The Insider says:

Thank you, Linz. While there were some earlier test comments you are first. All right in a dead heat with Razor. Go well yourself.
