We have lost a truly beautiful Australian. Conductor and music educator, Richard Gill passed away earlier today. He was 76 years of age.

I had the privilege of knowng Richard. He was a spectacular man, always interested in how other people were getting on. His lifelong vocation as a teacher of music will be his legacy.

He understood the great power of joy. A huge and irreplacable loss. Vale Richard Gill.

Obituaries here and here.

And here is a Facebook post featuring musicians playing Dam Busters outside his hime yesterday. Richard would have loved it.

Looks like this Climate Change may have “legs” after all, Mr. Insider as we see a Japanese H-2A rocket deployed a satellite in orbit Monday to measure Greenhouse Gases in Earth’s atmosphere and help scientists better quantify the role of human activity in climate change.
This should tell us a lot indeed, one way or the other.

Climate change may have legs? Don’t believe it until Donald Trump declares it to be true Henry. And even then treat the news with scepticism unless you hear it personally from The Donald. You know, fake news and all that.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Henry, you will love this. Best line I think (discussing this latest scam) is, roughly, “At least we wont have to listen to the paid climate denial bozos.”
      Cheers. Give ’em heaps Henry.

Love the bit about Trump clipping the poor suckers too.

I wouldn’t put any stock in ‘scientific research’ if it is instigated by Japan. They are hands down the masters of deceit so if they’re throwing around those two words, just think ‘bullshit’. 🐬

“Groan”, Mr Insider. FGS Tony Abbott please gooooooooooo anywhere but Australia! Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott says Nauru is being unfairly portrayed as a “hell-hole” when it is, in fact, a “very pleasant” place.
“Nauru is no hell-hole by any means. I’ve been there,” Mr. Abbott told radio station 2GB.
“If you like living in the tropics, it’s a very, very pleasant island.”
Is there anyone at all in Australia who likes this man, even the Aboriginal Peoples want an “Abbott Proof Fence” erected and he is their “Special Envoy”! Poor sods.

The more I see of Abbott the more I like him Henry. I’ve always had faith, expressed often, that he would turn the Liberal Party into a most interesting train crash.
Try to think of him as the Modern Moses sent by God to lead the Liberals into the wilderness. And the lets be honest, the wilderness can be very very pleasant if you like camping out.
Back off Blofeld, Tony might go skiing one day and come down the bearing stone tablets. then you’ll be sorry.

  • jack says:

sorry you lost another mate jack.

meanwhile the Cricket board is looking more foolish by the hour.

as are some old players and plenty of commentators who are now discovering what was obvious at the time, the penalties handed down to Smith Warner and Bancroft were excessive.

further, the appointment of a Lord High Performance Manager was ridiculous and the fact that it was Pat Howard even more so.

I think Leigh Sales got Peever with a straight one tonight.

Apologies for going off-topic for a sec but it appears ex PM Tones needs to be taken into care.

  • Boadicea says:

OT sorry. But the comments over the wall re the article that “Tony reckons Nauru is a very pleasant place to be” are so sickening that I had to stop reading them.
Godammit, we live in one of the luckiest and wealthiest countries in the world and have idiots with no compassion . Abbott’s followers are no different from Hanson’s. They should unite.
God, I hope he loses his seat.

  • smoke says:

And I could easily do without the passing of Colin Sylvia.
    Car prang apparently

  • Dwight says:

I have to admit that as an aficionado of classical music, I hadn’t heard of him. Sorry for your loss Jack.

  • Henry Donald J Blofeld says:

Well, you learn new things daily and of course where better to learn than your august Blog, Mr. Insider.
I must down the Form and Travel Guides etc and look more closely at the talent we have in Australia and reading about Richard Gill he sure was talented. My Princess, a cultured lady, knew who he straight away bless her.
May he RIP and what a rich and rewarding life he had.

Wow! Did he some tie up with the NSW police band JTI?

  • Bella says:

I remember the times he appeared on Spicks & Specks where his passion and knowledge of music from all genres was amazing.
Knowing his life touched so many others is a wonderful legacy.

    Condolences to his family. 💙

    • Penny says:

Yes I remember that too Bella, an amazing talent R.I.P.

There are few reasons nowadays for me to read the Australian media I have to say and things just get worse daily. I have unsubscribed today from The Australian, obviously not because of the likes if JTI, Kudelka or James Jeffrey, but because of the other puerile columns, opinion pieces or whatever you want to call them are so bad and the comments are just awful. Even the NT News, now run out of Adelaide has lost its uniqueness.

      • Boadicea says:

Yes, I’m with you on that Penny. I unsubscribed, then resubscribed when they offered me a 3mnth cheap deal to come back.
        But I shall not renew.
The comments over the wall are sickening at times – particularly on refugees. I cannot associate with a publication that is so extreme right. Seems to he getting worse and i will put that directly at Abbott’s door – white-anting, polarising snake that he is.
But I shall keep reading JTI via hard copy and this blog. And of course, Kudelka is a Hobart boy so always news of him here. 😊

      • Bella says:

I understand your pain Penny. 🤐
Gotta say the only time I read any newspaper it’s been disgarded by someone else & if I get to page 4 without rolling my eyes skyward it’s a miracle.
Pssst..Did you know there are still people who believe it?😉
