One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts’ testimony in the High Court yesterday might have been a crippling blow to the 77 people who voted for him but let’s look on the bright side. We haven’t had a senator so amusing since Mal Colston and truth be known, Malcolm Roberts is far more trustworthy around a packet of Tim Tams.
While the senator left the High Court yesterday looking cheerfully optimistic, there was general agreement from most observers that perhaps things had not gone quite as well as expected. This was rudely confirmed when the overflow room, established to accommodate the large number of visiting journalists who couldn’t fit into the gallery of the Brisbane court, spontaneously burst into uncontrollable laughter on numerous occasions.
The case, as far as we can tell, revolves around Malcolm Roberts firing off missives into the ether seeking to determine his citizenship status prior to nominating as a candidate for the Senate. The emails bear the subject heading, “Am I still a British citizen?” which stands at odds with the senator’s belief he has always been an Australian despite arriving in Australia in 1962 as an eight-year-old.

” all the oddballs and weirdos we accidentally elected and we’re not quite sure what to do with now.”
That’s the first senate (Abetz, Bernardi, Brandis, Dastyari etc)
The second one could have the real wackos.
Bring back Ricky.
With a citizenship expert like WA’s Paul Murray in his ring, how could Malcolm Roberts be denied by the High Court?

never thought I could be so grateful to see a fence built.
Problem is they can still get out🙁
Didn’t an “expert” on Indian law say that if he was born in India he would be considered an Indian citizen
I trust the Tim Tams in question are double choc, I’m rather partial to a Wagon Wheel myself even if they are more of a shopping trolley size.
This “expert” has no clue. India doesn’t allow dual citizenship, so Roberts is safe on that front.
Hey Tracy, I noticed that you are the sole leader of the Merry Few Champions league comp. You have 0 points and 1 in the goal difference. Good going!
Let’s hope it all works next week……..I won’t hold my breath.
Don’t know if you got an email from them saying everyone is being given a full house to make up for the non event of the first round, umm.
Not holding my breath Tracy and I know it’s out of your hands. Otherwise you’d be doing better than what you are.
Anywho i’m going the Tiger’s in the final, Adelaide will choke,
Either way I hope it’s a close and classic final.
Yes I saw that.
I would have thought they would want to disown him Tracy.
Gee Adelaide is all over Geelong inth 1st qtr.
Predictable win. Can’t see either Tigers or Giants beating them next week.
Pity it wasn’t the Pies. We could have another draw.
The Tiges always win when least expected to Jack!!
Very funny, Jack.
I guess one’s nationality is a state of mind. I don’t know how far I’d get with that argument at border control checkpoints.
Evening Jack,
The thing that has stuck me in all this, is, you dont have to really be something anymore. Just believe you are. MR’s claim that he always believed he was an Australian, well if its good enough for him, its good enough for me.
.
And its not just believing in what you are, its vaccinations you dont think are real, climate change that you dont believe in, gods people do believe in, illnesses that they dont believe in, sexes that they cant believe in, and sure as hell dont want gettin’ hitched!
.
If I took up conversation with a coconut and believed that it answers me, well, that’s not up for discussion anymore, and neither is my decision to live as a pony. No, I dont have any paperwork to prove any of it, and if I did I wouldnt be showing it to the media.
Belief or delusion. Take your pick. Good to hear from you, Wraith.
Good to be back Jack.
Remember when the mad cow disease epidemic was on a few years back? I overheard two cows discussing the problem. Cow #1, “Did you hear about this mad cow disease epidemic, it’s a bit worrying I tell you.” Cow #2, “Na, I’m not worried at all”. “Why?”, asks Cow #1. Cow #2,”Because I’m a tractor!”.
You are whatever you believe, hey Malcolm.
Good read, Mr Insider and you sum up Roberts well. To be unkind I cant stand the man but its a free country, I think he’s a quite few shillings short of a pound. Imho he is an insult to all hardworking Aussie Taxpayers and his so called “testimony” at the High Court is just farcical. Why should the Taxpayer ever fund anyone like Roberts I do ask? If you want to see a hard working Senator, and there are many, have a look at Jackie Lambie from Tasmania for example. She earns her money, unlike Roberts and a number of others.

Wouldn’t this be unconstitutional in that it might greatly boost the representation of places like Tasmania and SA (and maybe QLD as well).
I also wonder what it is about Pauline Hanson and her talent for attracting such awful, crazy, often quite nasty, and unpleasant men, and not just to her political banner? I also wonder how long it will be after Malcolm Roberts potentially gets ruled ineligible that he’ll blame both the mind-controlling, shape-shifting Reptilian Humanoids from the planet Zog and the You-Know-Whos for it? If he is ruled ineligible, it’ll apparently be Pauline Hanson’s sister who’ll get the rest of her quota and become a Senator.
Looks like the Gay Marriage plebiscite debate is getting as ugly as a lot of people feared. The apparent and condemnable headbutt on Tony Abbott is just one of the milder manifestations, though.
Alleged offender interviewed in the Hun, Rhys. Worth a read for the number of asterisks alone.
Come on Rhys, you are better than that.
Condoning an attack on a politican because you do not like his views is very much a slippery slope.
I think some of the “yes” supporters have been watching too many docos on the rise of the Nazi Party.
Sorry Rhys I misread condemnable as commendible.
Should not watch the football and do this.
The Nazi Party JS?? What rubbish.
This poll is loaded with scaremongering.
Rhys, a gang attack in Tassie on a pollie is bad enough.
Somehow I think the RSPCA or some other rights organization would object to an actual freakshow.
Good idea Jack. It’s for the best that these people are kept where we can see them.
